  • Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) generally consist of densely deployed sensor nodes that depend on batteries for energy. Having a large number of densely deployed sensor nodes causes energy waste and high redundancy in sensor data transmissions. The problems of power limitation and high redundancy in sensing coverage can be solved by appropriate scheduling of node activity among sensor nodes. In this paper, we propose a cellular automata based node scheduling algorithm for prolonging network lifetime with a balance of energy savings among nodes while achieving high coverage quality. Based on a cellular automata framework, we propose a new mathematical model for the node scheduling algorithm. The proposed algorithm uses local interaction based on environmental state signaling for making scheduling decisions. We analyze the system behavior and derive steady states of the proposed system. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing protocols by providing energy balance with significant energy savings while maintaining sensing coverage quality.

  • Many P2P systems which are designed to implement large-scale data sharing have been introduced in internet recently. They exhibit interesting features like sell-configuration, sell-healing and complete decentralization, which make them appealing for deployment in ad hoc environments as well. This paper proposes an Gnutella-based P2P system that can operate efficiently in ad hoc networks. The objectives of this paper are to extend the overall system lifetime, to reduce overheads, and to provide enhanced performance. The proposed system uses an ultrapeer election scheme based on metric values and proactive distribution of ultrapeer information. According to the simulation results, the proposed system can provide better performance than Gnutella in terms of query success rate, query response time, overhead and residual battery power by utilizing network resources efficiently.

  • It is very important to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor networks by using their limited energy efficiently, since it is not possible to change or recharge the battery of sensor nodes after deployment. LEACH protocol is a typical routing protocol based on the clustering scheme for the efficient use of limited energy. It is composed of a few clusters, which consist of head nodes and member nodes. Though LEACH starts from the supposition that all nodes have data transferred to a head, there must be some nodes having useless data in actual state. In this paper we propose a power saving scheme by making a member node dormant if previous sensed data and current data is same. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in comparison with original clustering algorithms. Simulation results validate our scheme has better performance in terms of the number of alive nodes as time evolves.

  • Ubiquitous Sensor Network(USN) is the very core of a technology for the Ubiquitous environments. There is the weakness from various security attacks such that tapping of sensor informations, flowing of abnormal packets, data modification and Denial of Service(DoS) etc. And it's required counterplan with them. Especially it's restricted by the capacity of battery and computing. By reasons of theses. positively, USN security technology needs the lightweighted design for the low electric energy and the minimum computing. In this paper, we propose lightweight USN mutual authentication methology based on trust model to solve above problems. The proposed authentication model can minimize the measure of computing because it authenticates the sensor nodes based on trust information represented by subjective logic model. So it can economize battery consumption and resultingly increse the lifetime of sensor nodes.

  • In this paper, we propose the fast and secure binding update protocol as handoff or handover in the micro and pico environment based on mobile IPv6. The nodes or routers on participating in this protocol generate their addresses from cryptographically generated addresses (CGAs) method unlike previous address generation method. The mobile node (MN) includes in home network or home link has limited power and computational abilities. So the home agent (HA) of the MN executes key agreement protocol with the correspondent node (CN) on behalf of the MN. The CN then creates a ticket on including session key, lifetime of ticket. and so on. It then transmits it to the MN via the HA of the MN. The ticket is used to communicate directly between the MN and its CN. In performance analysis, we analyze security of proposed binding update protocol under various attack scenarios and efficiency by comparing proposed protocol with prior binding update protocols. Finally we make a conclusion of this paper and present future works.

  • Mobile multi-robot teams are useful in many critical applications such as search and rescue. Explicit communication among robots in such mobile multi-robot teams is useful for the coordination of such teams as well as exchanging data. Since many applications for mobile robots involve scenarios in which communication infrastructure may be damaged or unavailable, mobile robot teams frequently need to communicate with each other via ad hoc networking. In such scenarios, low-overhead and energy-efficient routing protocols for delivering messages among robots are a key requirement. Two important primitives for communication are essential for enabling a wide variety of mobile robot applications. First, unicast communication (between two robots) needs to be provided to enable coordination and data exchange. Second, in many applications, group communication is required for flexible control, organization, and management of the mobile robots. Multicast provides a bandwidth-efficient communication method between a source and a group of robots. In this paper, we first propose and evaluate two unicast routing protocols tailored for use in ad hoc networks formed by mobile multi-robot teams: Mobile robot distance vector (MRDV) and mobile robot source routing (MRSR). Both protocols exploit the unique mobility characteristics of mobile robot networks to perform efficient routing. Our simulation study show that both MRDV and MRSR incur lower overhead while operating in mobile robot networks when compared to traditional mobile ad hoc network routing protocols such as DSR and AODV. We then propose and evaluate an efficient multicast protocol mobile robot mesh multicast (MRMM) for deployment in mobile robot networks. MRMM exploits the fact that mobile robots know what velocity they are instructed to move at and for what distance in building a long lifetime sparse mesh for group communication that is more efficient. Our results show that MRMM provides an efficient group communication mechanism that can potentially be used in many mobile robot application scenarios.

  • Top-k queries are issued to find out the highest (or lowest) readings in many sensor applications. Many top-k query processing algorithms are proposed to reduce energy consumption; FILA installs a filter at each sensor node and suppress unnecessary sensor updates; PRIM allots priorities to sensor nodes and collects the minimal number of sensor reading according to the priorities. However, if many sensor reading converge into the same range of sensor values, it leads to a problem that many false positives are occurred. In this paper, we propose a cluster-based approach to reduce them effectively. Our proposed algorithm operates in two phases: top-k query processing in the cluster level and top-k query processing in the tree level. False positives are effectively filtered out in each level. Performance evaluations show that our proposed algorithm reduces about 70% false positives and achieves about 105% better performance than the existing top-k algorithms in terms of the network lifetime.

  • In sensor networks, sensor nodes are usually distributed to manage the networks in continuous unique area, however as by the network property nodes can be located in several areas. The data gathering of distributed nodes to several areas can be different with current continuous area. Hence, the distributed networks can be differently managed to the current continuous networks. In this paper, we describe the data gathering of sensor nodes in distributed sensor areas. It is possible that sensor nodes cannot instantly connect the mobile sink, and the node operation should be considered. The real time data sending to the instant connection scheme of mobile sink can be implemented, but the property of mobile sink should be considered for the sink connection of distributed areas. In this paper, we analyze the proposed scheme by the simulation results. The simulation results show that the overall lifetime to the periodic data gathering method is longer than the threshold method.

  • It is well known that, in the near future, the lifetime of the IPv4 address space will be limited and available 32-bit IP network addresses will not be left any more. In order to solve such IPv4 address space problem in an effective way, the transition to the new version using IPv6 architecture is inevitably required. At present, it is impossible to convert IPv4 into IPv6 at a time, since the coverage and the size of today's Internet is too huge. Therefore, the coexistence of both IPv4 and IPv6 must be arranged in a special and practical fashion for rapid conversion on the whole. IP protocol translation has been proposed to ease the translation of the Internet from IPv4 to IPv6. This paper presents the design and implementation of a transparent transition service that translates packet header as they cross between IPv4 and IPv6 networks. IPv4/IPv6 Translation Protocol is written in c source code and is tested by the local test recommended by ISO, which has the most excellent error detection function. The test was processed with a test scenario and it was found that the results were successful.

  • A reprogramming operation is necessary to update the software code of the node to change or update the functionality of the deployed node in wireless sensor networks. This paper proposes an optimization algorithm that minimizes the transmission energy of a node for the purpose of reprogramming a node in wireless sensor networks. We also design an algorithm that keeps energy consumption of all nodes balanced in order to maintain the lifetime of the network. In this paper, we propose a Tabu search algorithm with a new neighborhood generation method for minimizing transmission energy and energy consumption in wireless sensor networks with many nodes. The proposed algorithm is designed to obtain optimal results within a reasonable execution time. The performance of the proposed Tabu search algorithm was evaluated in terms of the node's transmission energy, remaining energy, and algorithm execution time. The performance evaluation results showed better performance than the previous methods.
