대한민국 건강도시 평가(2008-2010) (Evaluation of the Healthy Cities in Korea(2008-2010))

  • Objectives: This study aims at evaluating performance of the Healthy Cities in Korea during the period of 2008-2010. Furthermore, it will explore future direction for qualitative growth of the Healthy Cities in Korea. Methods: A survey has been conducted annually with current healthy cities; 46 in 2009, 56 in 2010 and 60 in 2011. Survey instrument consists of 13 questions to evaluate general status, implementation system and sub-programs, and the result of the survey was analyzed by using PASW Statistic 18.0 focusing on categorizing healthy cities and looking at sub-programs trends. Results: In 2010, there are 60 Healthy Cities in Korea, whose number grows continuously. The most noticeable characteristic is that administrative bodies in urban area strongly promote the Healthy Cities Project, while the projects are usually associated with other health promotion projects rather than independently carried out. Also, their sub-programs are concentrated on 'healthy-setting' and 'healthy lifestyle programs'. Conclusions: To improve the quality of the Healthy Cities in Korea, a number of requirements should be met. The most urgent requirement is sector-wide comprehensive policy fostering Healthy Cities development strategy. Moreover, it is expected that over-arching theme should be set up under the framework of National Healthy Cities Network.

Study on the Failure of Autonomous Mobility in World Network Cities

  • Globalized cities are currently showing changes due to autonomous driving (AD). It is also maximizing globalization connections in cities where autonomous mobility is as complex as AD. The purpose of this study is to reveal that cities that realize AD and mobility will grow into globalized cities. Several cities, including New York and Shanghai, have attempted and are in progress, but failed cities are increasing. Although the technology of AD and the trust of citizens are prioritized, the city that has built the city's infrastructure is expected to be a city that has succeeded in AD. This is because commercialized cities or AVs will become hubs for mobility globalization, excluding rapid climate change or AV companies, and empirical analysis has been conducted that if AVs fail in metropolitan New York due to urban complexity (population density), urban economy size (GRDP), patents, number of consumers, infrastructure public EV chargers, and road quality. It examines whether the realization of AD by region and country affects overall national innovation. As a result, even if AV succeeds in large cities such as New York, Seoul, which has a higher population density (complexity), has a negative meaning, and a more similar Tokyo has a positive meaning. It can be seen that regional research on AV should also be prioritized in large cities such as Shanghai. This means that in order for AV to be realized in each city, the construction of AI infrastructure data must be actively changed to establish globalization of cities for economic growth as autonomous mobility.

기능적 상호작용에 따른 도시권 설정과 성장관계에 대한 연구 (Study on the Delineation of City-Regions Based on Functional Interdependence and Its Relationships with Urban Growth)

  • The central government has implemented policies to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium sized cities for balanced development at the national scale. However, since it is often difficult to enhance the competitiveness through partial projects of each jurisdiction, many local governments collaborate at the regional scale. This suggests that a regional approach is important for the management of small and medium sized cities. On the one hand, the concept of network city suggests that various functional networks can affect the growth of small and medium sized cities. Given this background, the purposes of this study are to delineate regional boundaries at national scale and identify their relations of growth by using functional network and Moran's I index. The study uses the Markov-chain model and cluster analysis to delineate the regions, and Moran's I is employed to identify the relations of growth. The results show that interactions between jurisdictions through networks could be crucial factors for growth of small and medium sized cities, while the networks based on passenger travel and freight movement have different implications. The results suggest that policy makers should not only consider local level investments, but also take the characteristics of networks between cities into account for achieving balanced development and developing regeneration policies.

On Interesting Correlation between Meteorological Parameters and COVID-19 Pandemic in Saudi Arabia

  • The recent outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic cases around the globe has affected Saudi Arabia with around 15, 00,000 confirmed cases within the initial 4 months of transmission. The present investigation analyzed the relationship between daily COVID-19 confirmed cases and meteorological parameters in seventeen cities of KSA. We used secondary published data from the Ministry of Health, KSA daily dataset of COVID-19 confirmed case counts. The meteorological parameters used in the present investigation are temperature, humidity, dew point, and wind speed. Pearson correlation and Spearman rank correlation tests were utilized for data analysis. The incubation period of COVID-19 varies from 1 day to 14 days as per available information. Therefore, an attempt has been made to analyze the effects of meteorological factors with bins of 1, 3, 7, and 14 days. The results suggested that the highest number of correlations (15 cities) was observed for temperature (maximum, minimum, and average) and humidity (12 cities) (minimum and average). The dew point showed relationships for 7 cities and wind showed moderate correlations only for 2 cities. The study results might be useful for authorities and stakeholders in taking specific measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Over the last few decades, various innovative technologies have emerged that have significantly contributed to making life easier for humans. Various information and communication technologies (ITCs) have emerged as a result of the global technological revolution, including big data, IoT, 4G and 5G networks, cloud computing, mobile computing, and artificial intelligence. These technologies have been adopted in urban planning and development, which gave rise to the concept of smart cities in the 1990s. A smart city is a type of city that uses ITCs to exchange and share information to enhance the quality of services for its citizens. With the global population increasing at unprecedented levels, cities are overwhelmed with a myriad of challenges, such as the energy crisis, environmental pollution, sanitation and sewage challenges, and water quality issues, and therefore, have become a convergence point of economic, social, and environmental risks. The concept of a smart city is a multidisciplinary, unified approach that has been adopted by governments and municipalities worldwide to overcome these challenges. Though challenging, this transformation is essential for cities with differing technological and social features, which all have the potential to determine the success or failure of the digital transformation of cities into smart cities. In recent years, researchers, businesses, and the government have all turned their attention to the emerging field of smart cities. Accordingly, this paper aims to represent a thorough understanding of the movement toward smart cities. The key themes identified are smart city definitions and concepts, smart city dimensions, and smart city architecture of different layers. Furthermore, this article discusses the challenges and some examples of smart cities.

The Current State of Cyber-Readiness of Saudi Arabia

  • The continuous information technology and telecommunication (ICT) developments inspire several Saudi Arabia citizens to transact and interact online. However, when using online platforms, several people are likely to lose their personal information to cybercriminals. In the survey, 553 Saudi Arabia citizens and 103 information technology (IT) specialists confirm the expansion of digital economy and the need for smart cities with various services, including e-commerce and solid cyber security. 96.6% of the participants believe Saudi Arabia is digitalizing its economy; yet, 33.3% of the participants believe that residents are uninformed about living and operating in smart cities. Several people (47.29%) with medium internet speed are more aware about smart cities than those with fastest internet speed (34%). Besides, online transactions via credit cards subjected 55.5% of the participants to privacy and security issues. These findings validate the essence of cyber security awareness programs among Saudi Arabia citizens and IT professionals to boost public trust and acceptance of cybersecurity frameworks.

  • This paper reviewed and provides clarifications as to the meaning and concept of Smart Cities with particular reference to the Smart City Components. The paper also discusses Internet of Things and the Big Data in relation to the role they played in the development and evolution of smart cities. The paper further provides discussions on the 5G Wireless Networks and Industry 4.0 buttressing their significance in the smart cities concept. IoT-Based Automatic Water Quality Monitoring System with Optimized Neural Network

  • One of the biggest dangers in the globe is water contamination. Water is a necessity for human survival. In most cities, the digging of borewells is restricted. In some cities, the borewell is allowed for only drinking water. Hence, the scarcity of drinking water is a vital issue for industries and villas. Most of the water sources in and around the cities are also polluted, and it will cause significant health issues. Real-time quality observation is necessary to guarantee a secure supply of drinking water. We offer a model of a low-cost system of monitoring real-time water quality using IoT to address this issue. The potential for supporting the real world has expanded with the introduction of IoT and other sensors. Multiple sensors make up the suggested system, which is utilized to identify the physical and chemical features of the water. Various sensors can measure the parameters such as temperature, pH, and turbidity. The core controller can process the values measured by sensors. An Arduino model is implemented in the core controller. The sensor data is forwarded to the cloud database using a WI-FI setup. The observed data will be transferred and stored in a cloud-based database for further processing. It wasn't easy to analyze the water quality every time. Hence, an Optimized Neural Network-based automation system identifies water quality from remote locations. The performance of the feed-forward neural network classifier is further enhanced with a hybrid GA- PSO algorithm. The optimized neural network outperforms water quality prediction applications and yields 91% accuracy. The accuracy of the developed model is increased by 20% because of optimizing network parameters compared to the traditional feed-forward neural network. Significant improvement in precision and recall is also evidenced in the proposed work.

Using GIS to Find the Best Safe Route between Khartoum and Arqin-Crossing

  • The paper aims to clarify how to make a decision using geographic information systems and how to choose the best route between two cities to suit the expectations of the driver and his sense of safety and comfort on the road. Use a special model for network analysis, where the network analysis tool relied on the following data (maximum speed of the road - number of intersections - road width - peak period) in choosing the best safe path. The paper concluded that the best safe route for refugees between the cities of Khartoum - Arqin crossing is ( Khartoum - Shendi - Atbara - Meroe - Abu Hamad - Wadi Halfa). We advise all GIS users to use the theories of spatial analysis when creating a new model.

Passive Sampler를 이용한 대도시의 대기질 평가 (Air Quality Evaluation with Passive Samplers for Large Cities)

  • Filter badge type sampler has not been widely used to evaluate air quality over large cities in Korea while it can be successfully used for multi-point sampling and analysis. We evaluated the passive sampler as a new tool to monitor air quality over large cities. We latticed Metropolitan Seoul into $2{\times}2Km$ to give 136 points. $NO_2$ concentrations were measured at all the points in the Spring and Summer of 1997. According to the passive sampler data, natural green zones generally recorded lower $NO_2$ concentrations than major streets and traffic congestion areas. Passive samplers with abundant 136 points gave more detailed picture of $NO_2$ distribution while auto-monitoring network did not clearly provide the characteristics of local land use. Also, passive samplers gave 15% higher values than auto-monitoring network. The correlation between the two values appears very high judging from the regression slope of 0.92 and correlation coefficient of 0.91. This study clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the passive sampler as a tool to monitor air quality over large cities.
