  • The use of femtocells in buildings and homes has been widely studied as a means to enlarge the cell coverage and increase the network capacity of mobile communication systems. Femtocells for Mobile WiMAX (M-WiMAX) using time division duplexing (TDD) requires frame synchronization with neighboring base stations to avoid interference between uplink and downlink signals. In this paper, we propose a new frame synchronization method for femtocell using IEEE 802.11 based wireless backhaul, which transfers the time information of mobile network to femtocells via the beacon signal provided by IEEE 802.11. Also, in order to reduce timing error of the proposed method, we modify the collision avoidance scheme in the transmitter of IEEE 802.11 and apply a timing estimation technique designed in the sense of least squares to the receiver of IEEE 802.11. Through computer simulations using the proposed scheme, we evaluate the performance of frame synchronization for femtocells and show that the recovered timing information satisfies the timing specification defined by M-WiMAX standard.

  • MapReduce provides high levels of system scalability and fault tolerance for large-size data processing. A MapReduce-based k-nearest-neighbor(k-NN) join algorithm seeks to produce the k nearest-neighbors of each point of a dataset from another dataset. The algorithm has been considered important in bigdata analysis. However, the existing k-NN join query-processing algorithm suffers from a high index-construction cost that makes it unsuitable for the processing of bigdata. To solve the corresponding problems, we propose a new grid-based, k-NN join query-processing algorithm. Our algorithm retrieves only the neighboring data from a query cell and sends them to each MapReduce task, making it possible to improve the overhead data transmission and computation. Our performance analysis shows that our algorithm outperforms the existing scheme by up to seven-fold in terms of the query-processing time, while also achieving high extent of query-result accuracy.

  • The bilateral filter can reduce the noise while preserving details computing the filtering output at each pixels as the average of neighboring pixels. In this paper, we propose a real-time system based on window division. Overall performance is increased due to the parallel architectures which computes five rows in the kernel window simultaneously but with pipelined scheduling. We consider the tradeoff between the filter performance and the hardware cost and the bit allocation has been determined by PSNR analysis. The proposed architecture is designed with verilogHDL and synthesized using Dongbu Hitek 110nm standard cell library. The proposed architecture shows 416Mpixels/s (397fps) of throughput at 416MHz of operating frequency with 132K gates.

  • A phytoplankton study in the Korean waters has been commenced from 1964 as parts of the primary production studies in the Korean waters and the cruise for the cooperative studies of the Kuroshio from 1965 to 1968. Samples are taken by dipping 300-500 ml of sea water from the surface, and then fixed by adding neutralized formalin. The phytoplankton identification and cell counts are made on samples carefully after concentrated by decanting and centrifuging in the laboratory. This report deals with the surface phytoplankton obtained during the period of August 14-27, 1965 at twenty-three stations in the Korea Strait. Fifty nine species in seventeen genera of diatoms are detected from the samples collected at the stations. Among them seven species in five genera are considered to be purely neritic or cold water species and eight species in four genera are oceanic species of the Kuroshio. The highest phytoplankton standing crops are found in the sea area neighboring coastal waters of southern Korea, and the species distribution show anomalies in normally oceanic species being confined to neritic waters. There are distinct genera compositions of eastern, western and intermediate sea areas in the Kore Strait.

  • A sample of ultra low carbon IF steel was processed by six-layer stack accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) and annealed. The ARB was conducted at ambient temperature after deforming the as-received material to a thickness of 0.5 mm by 50% cold rolling. The ARB was performed for a six-layer stacked, i.e. a 3 mm thick sheet, up to 3 cycles (an equivalent strain of ~7.0). In each ARB cycle, the stacked sheets were, first, deformed to 1.5 mm thickness by 50% rolling and then reduced to 0.5 mm thickness, as the starting thickness, by multi-pass rolling without lubrication. The specimen after 3 cycles was then annealed for 0.5 h at various temperatures ranging from 673 to 973 K. The microstructural evolution with the annealing temperature for the 3-cycle ARB processed IF steel was investigated in detail by transmission electron microscopy observation. The ARB processed IF steel exhibited mainly a dislocation cell lamella structure with relatively high dislocation density in which the subgrains were partially observed. The selected area diffraction (SAD) patterns suggested that the misorientation between neighboring cells or subgrains was very small. The thickness of the grains increased in a gradual way up to 873 K, but above 898 K it increased drastically. As a result, the grains came to have an equiaxed morphology at 898 K, in which the width and the thickness of the grains were almost identical. The grain growth occurred actively at temperatures above 923 K.

  • The ultrastructure on the dorsal vessel of 5-day-old cabbage butterfly, Pieris rapae L., was carried out using the transmission and scanning electron microscope. The results are as follows. 1) The aorta. The aorta is simple tubular type and consists of the inner and outer membrane of the myocardium and thick myocardium is located between them. However the inner membrane with $0.26{\mu}m$ thickness and outer membrane with $0.08{\mu}m$ are composed of fibrous materials, the former is composed of low and high densed fibrous materials and the latter appears homogeneous layer. The myocardium consists of typical striated muscles. The sarcomere with $1.6{\mu}m$ length and in cross section, each thick filaments are surrounded by $7{\sim}8$ thin filaments. The intercalated disc is joining the end of the two muscle cells, desmosomes and septate junctions are appeared between the neighboring muscle cells. 2) The heart. The heart composing of myocardium enclosed by its inner and outer membrane as the aorta has a series of well formed segmental chamber. The arrangement of myofilaments, cell adhensions and membrane elements are observed as same as at the aorta. The inner membrane of the heart is deeply invaginated into the myocardium than the outer membrane and a lot of well developed mitochondria with rod shape are aggregated in the folds. The longitudinally and transversely oriented tubule system formed by invagnation of the sarcolemma into the muscle bundle is built up dyad with the sarcoplasmic reticulum as the aorta. The slit is formed by deeply invagination of the inner membrane of myocadium toward the muscle layer and then the inner and outer membrane of myocardium are fused. Therefore, the ostium is formed between the myocardium and situated at the lateral side of the myocardium.

  • Since the TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) system is based on TDD (Time Division Duplexing), the uplink and downlink can be allocated asymmetrically according to the traffic e.g. Web browsing. Although this asymmetric allocation can increase the frequency utilization, it may cause time slot opposing, which implies the time slot is assigned in opposing direction between cells. The time slot opposing can generate significant interference between cells, which results in severe performance degradation. In the paper, a novel dynamic channel allocation (DCA) is proposed in the TD-SCDMA system, to mitigate the impact of time slot opposing considering smart antenna. When the smart antenna is applied in the system, the inter-cell interference is largely affected by beam pattern and beam direction between neighboring cells. Therefore, the time slot opposing and smart antenna should be considered together in the DCA. The intensive simulations show that the proposed scheme can improve the system capacity compared to the conventional DCA schemes.

  • The crystal structure of N-acetyl-L-cysteine, $C_5H_9NO_3S,$ has been determined from three dimensional photographic intensity data $(CuK{\alpha}$ radiation) by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. There is one formula unit in the triclinic unit cell with a = 7.04(3), b = 5.14(2), c = 8.25(3) ${\AA}$, ${\alpha}$ = 106(2), ${\beta}$ = 51(1), ${\gamma}$ = 124(2)$^{\circ}$ and space group P$_1$, The structure was solved by the direct method and refined by the full matrix least-squares method. The final R value is 12.3% for 629 observed reflections. The C-carboxyl group and the N-acetyl group are very neary planar. The molecule appears to form with neighboring molecules a hydrogen bond, $O-H{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}O(3)$ of length 2.59${\AA}$.

  • In Xenopus laevis the cranial myotomes, W, X, Y and Z represent transient embry-specific structures since they undergo reduction" in the later stage of development. An extensive set of expertmental studies was undertaken in order to discriminate whether the cranial myotomes perform a programmed autonomous death or reduction" by the influence from surrounding tissue such as otic vesicle. Removal of the neighboring otic vesicle did not affect WXYZ degeneration. Grafting the otic vesicle to novel site along the somite file did not induce local myotome degenration. When anterior-most somitic primordia were relocated to the trunk somite region, they underwent reduction eventually. Likewise, with the transplantation of posterior somite forming region into the anterior, autonomous differentiation pafferns were observed. And the cullture of presumptive somitic tissue revealed that WXYZ might degnerate like in vivo. It is therefore concluded that the cranial myotomes of Xenopus laevis exhibit an autonomous cell death during later embryogenesis.yogenesis.

  • IMT-2000 system is the third generation mobile communication system which aims at mobile multimedia services with global roaming. Like 2nd generation system, the IMT-2000 system is also under strong influence of interferences among active subscribers in the multiple access environment. That is, in multiple access environment, signals from one subscriber could interfere with others in the same cell or in the neighboring cells. The interference control in the IMT-2000 systems is much more difficult then the interference control in the 2ndgeneration CDMA cellular systems, since the transmitted power of a subcriber might be different that of others in the IMT-2000 system. In this paper, a parallel interference cancellation with traffic discrimination is proposed which can effectively cancel interferences by grouping the subscribers into several equi-power classes. As a conclusion, simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional partial PIC scheme in several aspects.
