Background: In the thymus, developing thymocytes continually interact with thymic epithelial cell components. Self MHC restriction of mature T cells are imposed in the thymus through interaction of immature double positive thymocytes and thymic cortical epithelial cells. The site of negative selection, however, is a matter of debate. Through systemic injection of anti-TCR antibody or antigenic peptides, investigators suggested that most of the negative selection occurs in the thymic cortex. But the requirements for negative selection, i.e cellular counterparts and costimulatory molecules are more available in the medulla or cortico-medullary junction rather than in the thymic cortex. Methods: The direct and indirect pathways of thymocyte death after systemic anti-TCR antibody injection were separated through several experimental systems. B6 mice were either adrenalectomized or sham-adrenalectomized to evaluate the role of endogenous glucocorticoids from adrenal gland. Role of TNF were evaluated through using TNF receptor double knockout mice. Results: We found that without indirectly acting mediators such as $TNF-\alpha$ or corticosteroid, double positive thymocyte death were minimal by systemic injection of anti-TCR antibody in TNF receptor double knockout neonatal mice. Also by analyzing neonatal wild-type mice with adoptively transferred mature T cells, only peripheral activation of mature T cells could induce extensive double positive thymocyte death. Conclusion: Thus, systemically injected anti-TCR antibody mediated thymocyte death are mostly induced through indirect pathway.
Purpose: Lymph node (LN) metastasis is the best prognostic indicator in non-distant metastatic advanced gastric cancer. This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of various clinicopathologic factors in node-negative advanced gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical records of 254 patients with primary node-negative stage T2~4 gastric cancer. These patients were selected from a pool of 1,890 patients who underwent radical resection at Memorial Jin-Pok Kim Korea Gastric Cancer Center, Inje University Seoul Paik Hospital between 1998 and 2008. Results: Of the 254 patients, 128 patients (50.4%), 88 patients (34.6%), 37 patients (14.6%), and 1 patient (0.4%) had T2, T3, T4a, and T4b tumors, respectively. In a univariate analysis, operation type, T-stage, venous invasion, tumor size, and less than 15 LNs significantly correlated with tumor recurrence and cumulative overall survival. In a multivariate logistic regression analysis, tumor size, venous invasion, and less than 15 LNs significantly and independently correlated with recurrence. In a multivariate Cox proportional hazards analysis, tumor size (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.926; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.173~7.300; P=0.021), venous invasion (HR: 3.985; 95% CI: 1.401~11.338; P=0.010), and less than 15 LNs (HR: 0.092; 95% CI: 0.029~0.290; P<0.001) significantly correlated with overall survival. Conclusions: Node-negative gastric cancers recurred in 8.3% of the patients in our study. Tumor size, venous invasion, and less than 15 LNs reliably predicted recurrence as well as survival. Aggressive postoperative treatments and timely follow-ups should be considered in cases with these characteristics.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors which affect users' fatigue and reluctant intention of using a SNS. In particular, this study focused on the fatigue of SNS users, as the recent excessive use of SNS has led to negative effects such as invasion of privacy, addition and social overload. fatigue This research will explain how producing adverse effects by using SNS caused psychological and mental depression. Previous researches explained that mental fatigue associated with SNS is not simple one and it is complicated with various psychological factors. Considering this fact, this study introduced a behavioral economics concept and a social comparison theory in the research model. Design/methodology/approach For research purposes, this study developed research hypotheses in order to empirically examine the factors that affect SNS users' fatigue and reluctant intention. The empirical research was based on a poll done through 800 research candidates in the SNS fields and the final 451 responses were collected and used in statistical data analysis. The adaptability, trust, and validity to measurement model were verified and the structural relationship in the research model was analyzed through these 451 responses. Findings First of all, maintenance fatigue of SNS had a positive significant effect on coupling and fatigue of SNS and information privacy had a non-significant effect on fatigue. Second, coupling had a negative significant effect on rational inattention, however, perceived cost had a non-significant effect on rational inattention. Third, lateral/upward comparison had a positive significant on user's negative emotions. Meanwhile, user's negative emotions did not have a significant effect on rational inattention.
The relationship of information flow and market price formation are central to the basic tenets of financial economics. Whereas information is usually treated as being either public or private(monopolistic), most empirical studies focus on the price effects of public announcements. More recent research has centered more on the role of private information, such as insider trading, in efficient pricing and whether such trading increases investor welfare. Typically, 'insider trading' refers to an officer that trades in his/her company's shares. Insider trading, however, also refers to anyone who generates private, albeit costly, information concerning a stock's fundamental value. Normally, such insider activity is more difficult to ascertain. One way in which negative information is revealed is through short-selling activity, especially the monthly short-interest positions reported by the national stock exchanges. Diamond and Verrecchia(1987) provide a theoretical paradigm that predicts a negative price adjustment upon announcement of n company's monthly short interest, if the short interest displays an unusual increase and is correlated with negative information that is not yet public. Empirical studies of the short-run, negative price effect predicted by Diamond and Verrecchia find mixed results. One explanation is that the time period studied is too short for the market to absorb the informational content of these announcements. One reason is that these announcements are an ambiguous signal that requires more individuals and time to collect and act on the same information before full revelation occurs or before the implicit information becomes publicly known. This 'long delayed reaction' also serves as a motivation for related research on the wealth effect of mergers, share repurchases, and initial equity offerings in which long-run performance differs from the initial, short-run reaction to such announcements or offerings.
This study explores how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed family life and relationships as well as how these changes affect perceived stress among married men and women. This study investigated changes in family time use, household work, child care, leisure activities, income and expenditures along with relationships between spouses and children using a sample of 627 married persons surveyed online from May 19 to 25, 2020. The results showed that the amount of time spent on household work, child care, and family leisure have increased and that the perceived burden of household work and child care has also increased. Gender differences were found in time use, household work, and child care. Leisure activities have changed toward more time watching TV or online media and playing online games and less time on outdoor activities, shopping, and meeting friends. About 38% of respondents reported a reduction in household income and 22% reported an increase in household debt. The majority experienced no change in the quality of relationships with spouses and children, approximately 20% of the sample reported a positive change in relationships with spouses and children. The findings of multivariate regression indicated that change in work time, negative change in household economy, negative change in household work and negative change in relationships with spouses were associated with marital stress. However, this study found that negative changes in child care and in relationships with children did not affect stress among married parents with children in elementary or secondary school.
Purpose: ${\alpha}$-fetoprotein (AFP)-producing gastric cancer is a rare tumor with high rates of liver metastasis and a poor prognosis. Many studies have been performed but there have been no comprehensive investigations of the clinicopathological and prognosis. Materials and Methods: Six hundred ninety four patients with gastric cancer who underwent a curative gastric resection in Hanyang University Hospital from February 2001 to December 2008 were evaluated retrospectively after excluding active or chronic hepatits, liver cirrhosis and preoperative distant metastasis. Among them, thirty five patients had an elevated serum level of AFP (>7 ng/ml) preoperatively. The clinicopathological features of AFP-producing gastric cancer were analyzed. Results: There was poorer differentiation, a higher incidence of lymph node metastasis, more marked lymphatic and vascular invasion in the AFP-positive group than in the AFP-negative group. The 5-year survival rate of the AFP-positive group was significantly poorer than that in the AFP-negative group (66% vs. 80%, P=0.002). A significantly higher incidence of liver metastasis was observed in the AFP-positive group than in the AFP-negative group (14.3% vs. 3.6%, P=0.002) with a shorter median time period from the operation to the metachronous liver metastasis (3.7 months vs. 14.1 months, P=0.043). Multivariate survival analysis revealed the depth of invasion, degree of lymph node metastasis and AFP-positivity to be the independent prognostic factors. Conclusions: AFP-producing gastric cancers have an aggressive behavior with a high metastatic potential to the liver. In addition, their clinicopathological features are quite different from the more common AFP-negative gastric cancer.
The purpose of this study is to investigate interpersonal support, tension in lifechanges & satisfaction. The selected sample is composed of 387 housewives in ChongJoo city. SAS pc program was used for the statistical analysis of the data. Data was analyzed by frequency, F-test, percentage, mean, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Regression Analysis. Major findings as follows: 1)At wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents & parents-in law side were variables to have influence on tension in life changes. And the number of social organization participated were a variable to have influence on the satisfaction. The age of couple, education of couple, duration of marriage, income, family lifecycle, the number of children, pattern of family were variables to influence tension in life changes, but were not variables to influence on the satisfaction. 2) At usual or wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents side were variables to influence on instrumental & companionship support. And the number of friends was a variable to influence on companionship & informational support. The number of neighbors was a variable to influence on instrumental, companionship & informational support. The number of social organization participated was a variable to influence on companionship & emotional support. The age of couple, education of couple,income, duration of marriage, family life cycle, number of children, family size, family type were variables to influence on interpersonal support. 3)The relationship between tension and satisfaction in life changes was negative, and between instrumental support and satisfaction was negative also. But between companionship support and satisfaction was positive relationship and between tension of personal &social life and instrumental support was positive relationship. The relationship between tension of marriage life and companionship support was negative and between tension of family life and information support was negative relationships. The received companionship support was lower tension in life changes than not received it. But the received instrumental support was higher tension of personal & social life. The received companionship & informational support was higher satisfaction than not received them. But the received instrumental support was lower satisfaction than not received it. 4) Instrumental & companionship support, at usual kin network of her parents in taw side, at wedding & funeral ceremony kin network of her parents side,were variables to influence on tension in life changes. The purpose of this study is to examine the online WOM effect of blog review depending on brand awareness and message direction. The theory of planned behavior was applied to understand online WOM acceptance. A survey was conducted targeting female in 20s and 30s and 312 questionnaires were used for analysis. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, and regression analysis were conducted using SPSS ver. 18.0. The results are as follows. First, purchase intention and online re-WOM intention are higher when brand awareness is higher. Second, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, WOM acceptance intention, purchase intention and off-line re-WOM intention show higher values when negative information is afforded. Third, in type 1 (high brand awareness/positive message) and type 3 (low brand awareness/positive message), attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control have a positive effect on WOM acceptance intention. In type 2 (high brand awareness/negative message), subjective norm and attitude have a positive effect on WOM acceptance intention. In type 4 (low brand awareness/negative message), subjective norm and perceived behavioral control have a positive effect on WOM acceptance intention. Forth, in type 1 and type 3, WOM acceptance intention has a positive effect on purchase intention, offline re-WOM intention and online re-WOM intention. In type 2 and type 4, WOM acceptance intention has a negative effect on purchase intention, and a positive effect on offline re-WOM intention. The results show that blog review has ripple effect on consumer behavior by affecting purchase intention and offline re-WOM intention.
The hospital is not the place for functional isolationalism, that is, for each department to do their own activities independently. Rather it is an organization in which each part is joined together and concentrating on the same objectives. The hospital must maintain a one-system-function, so that all the resources of the hospital may be used efficiently. Although we do not yet completely understand how the nursing image as perceived by the medical team and the other members of the interdisciplinary team affects nursing practice. It is important to identify how the client recognizes the nursing image as this will influence the growth of the nursing profession directly and indirectly. So we must reevaluate the nursing image as presented to the client and find the ways to present them with a better image of nursing. The study procedures were as follow; First, the image of nurses was analyzed. The subjects for this study were 270 nurses, 172 doctors, 237 hospital employees, and 240 patients and their families from 5 local branches of the Yonsei Medical Center. The four negative responses shown in this study are as follows; 1) Nurses don't listen to patients. 2) Nurses are self-centered. 3) Nurses and careless. 4) Nurses are mechanical. Second, the concrete causes of the four negative responses were analyzed. Third, the contribution of the nurses for clinical practice, research and education was analyzed. Data were collected by questionnaires all seps of the research. Data were analyzed by use of SPSS/PC. In conclusion, the image of nurses differed according to which group, the respondents belonged. Generally, the public have a positive image of nurses, but hospital employees have a negative images of nurses. Further the nurses gave themselves a low grade. They showed negative as to the value of their job, professionality and their contribution to clinical practice when it was compared to that of the doctors.
Black Friday, a biggest holiday shopping season in the United States, has been regarded as a great opportunity that fashion retailers can dramatically increase their sales. However, there has been a lack of attention to consumers' shopping experiences on Black Friday from the consumer perspectives. The objective of this study is to explore consumer shopping experiences on Black Friday, in terms of consumer responses toward the experiences, shopping values, and any possible factors influencing the experiences. The method of critical incident technique was used with 198 critical incidents extracted from 165 responses of university students in the United States. As results, the shopping experiences on Black Friday were categorized into positive vs. negative shopping experiences. After that, the positive and negative experiences were respectively divided into two common themes: utilitarian shopping value vs. hedonic shopping value. In addition to the common themes, 12 categories were also emerged. Among positive experiences, utilitarian shopping experiences includes two categories of off-price shopping and shopping for expensive products, whereas hedonic shopping experiences includes three categories of impulse buying, holiday atmosphere, and shopping for the latest or luxury brand products. Among negative experiences, utilitarian shopping experiences includes four categories of modest discounts, out of stock, time-consuming queues, and fatigue of holiday shopping, while hedonic shopping experiences includes three categories of crowded environments, compulsive buying, and poorly managed stores. In conclusion, it is notable that consumer can undergo negative as well as positive shopping experiences on Black Friday. Implications and suggestions are also discussed.
