A Comparative Study of Peer-driven and Task-driven on Reading Training

  • One difficulty in language learning is the training of reading ability. The improvement on this ability directly affects the process and effect of language learning. At the same time, there are numerous difficulties in actual learning and teaching. Depending on current research, there is two ideas that can utilize to enhance the reading efficiency of learners. One is to amend objective factors; the other is to change subjective factors. Compared with the two ideas, idiosyncratic factors are more manipulable and controllable, so it is more valuable to conduct researches on this. But among the many subjective factors, the degree of their effectiveness is not the same, so this article attempts to compare and analyze the driving effects of two important subjective factors (peer-driven and task-driven) on reading performance. The results show that both factors can have a positive impact on reading comprehension, but different in driving effects. The task-driven has obvious short-term effectiveness; while peer-driven needs to establish its long-term effect on the basis of early coordination and cooperation among team members. Therefore, in order to maximize the achievement of learning, it is necessary to combine strengths and avoid weaknesses according to the characteristics of two factors, so as to help learners improve reading ability most efficiently.

대학도서관 희망도서의 신청 패턴과 이용효과 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Pattern and Efficiency of Patron-Driven Acquisition in Academic Libraries)

  • 대학도서관은 구성원이 교육과 연구를 수행하는 데 있어 필요수적인 자료를 선정하여 구입할 필요가 있다. 따라서 이용자의 정보 요구를 장서 개발에 반영하는 방법으로 희망도서 제도를 운영하고 있다. 본 연구는 10년간의 장기적 관점에서 희망도서 신청 과정과 결과를 분석하였다. 희망도서는 단행본에 대한 강력한 정보 요구이기 때문에 주제 분야별 이용자의 정보 요구 패턴을 파악할 수 있었다. 대학 구성원으로서 이용자는 전공하는 학문 분야에 대해서는 전공 도서를 선정하면서도 다른 주제 분야의 교양 도서를 적절히 선정하여 장서 구성에 기여하고 있었다. 결과적으로 희망도서는 소수의 이용자에 의해 선정이 이루어지지만 도서관 전체 이용자의 정보 요구를 충족시키고 있어 효율적인 장서 개발 정책으로 운용되고 있다고 볼 수 있다.

Overseas Research and Development Activities of Korean ICT enterprises in Emerging Countries

  • With the globalisation of the world's economies and the increasing role of multinational corporations in the generation of knowledge, global research and development (R&D) activities in emerging countries are following a new trend. This paper describes case studies of two large companies and discussion of the motives (demand vs. supply) and tasks (demand-driven vs. supply-driven) of R&D activities outside their home country. This work is based on an analysis of four overseas R&D units of two Korean ICT companies - here, ICT refers to goods and services in the information technology and communication technology fields - in India and China. The research findings are as follows: (1) The overseas R&D activities of Korean ICT enterprises in emerging countries may be driven by a combination of demand and supply factors of host countries; and (2) Korean overseas R&D centres in emerging countries may need to carry out both demand- and supply-driven tasks in view of the overlap between demand and supply factors of the host countries. Based on the results of this research, the following policy implications can be drawn for encouraging more effective overseas R&D activities of Korean enterprises in emerging countries. First, the government needs to expand the support systems so that enterprises can manage local R&D centres more effectively and actively use the variety of local support systems and useful information. Second, the government needs to expand the support systems so that the overseas R&D centres of Korean enterprises revitalise collaborations with locally excellent universities and research institutions.

한일 사회문제 해결형 연구개발사업 비교 분석 (Comparative analysis of R&D programs for societal challenges)

  • 기존 혁신정책의 대안이자 사회문제의 새로운 대응책으로서 사회문제 해결형 연구개발사업이 시도되고 있다. 사회문제는 문제가 발생하는 사회적 맥락, 특히 문제에 직면하는 사용자를 이해하는 것이 중요하다. 그 때문에 사회문제 해결형 연구개발사업은 사회문제와 사용자의 수요를 발굴하고, 개발 및 실증과정에서 연구자와 사용자의 협업을 강조한다. 본 연구에서는 한국 시민연구사업과 일본 사회기술연구개발센터 사업의 두 사례를 들어 각각의 배경, 기본 구성, 추진 과정을 비교분석하였다. 두 사례에서는 사회문제 해결 목표와 사용자 참여 방안이 유사한 형태로 나타나고 있었다. 그러나 사업 성격과 추진 과정 측면에서는 일본 사례가 더 넓은 시각에서 사회문제 해결형 연구개발에 접근하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 한국에서는 기술개발 중심의 기존 연구개발체계가 그대로 유지되는 가운데 사회문제 해결형 연구개발사업과의 정합성이 떨어진 데 따른 것으로 해석된다. 따라서 공급중심 시각 탈피, 사용자 참여의 내실화, 법제도 사업화 등 기술 외적 부문의 발달을 위한 지원 수단을 마련하여 기존 연구개발체계에서 비롯된 한계를 극복할 수 있도록 해야 한다.

Low Cost Rotor Fault Detection System for Inverter Driven Induction Motor

  • In this paper, the induction motor rotor fault diagnosis system using current signals, which are measured using axis-transformation method, and speed, which is estimated using current information, are presented. In inverter-fed motor drives unlike line-driven motor drives the stator currents have numerous harmonics components and therefore fault diagnosis using stator currents is very difficult. The current and speed signal for rotor fault diagnosis needs to be precise. Also, high resolution information, which means the diagnosis system, demands additional hardware such as low pass filter, high resolution ADC, encoder and etc. Therefore, the proposed axis-transformation and speed estimation method are expected to contribute to low cost fault diagnosis systems in inverter-fed motor drives without the need for an encoder and any additional hardware. In order to confirm validity of the developed algorithms, various experiments for rotor faults are tested and the line current spectrum of each faulty situation using Park transformation and speed estimation method are compared with the results obtained from fast Fourier transforms.

A Light-Weight Spring-Driven and Hydraulically-Damped Multiple Piston Corer

  • A light-weight multiple piston corer to meet increasing coring needs in areas where R/V access is limited, is designed and discussed. Hydraulically-damped and spring-driven piston system not only virtually undisturbed surface sediments but also facilitate the recovery and subsequent operation including pore water extraction and core slicing on board the ship. It is designed as compact, light-weight and easy to dissemble that whole gear can be carried by small passenger vehicle yet it permits thick-walled core tube for thermal insulation or large opening core tubes. Because single spring instead of heavy weights of conventional gravity-driven multiple corers is used, this device is very simple and cheap to construct.

  • QFD is a market driven design and development methodology for products and services to meet or exceed customer's needs and expectations, This method enables to specify clearly the customer's needs and then evaluate the product capability in terms of its impact on meeting those needs. Process of satisfying customers begins with effectively soliciting their different needs and wants which may be non-technical and imprecise in nature. Although the HoQ is a comprehensive tool for showing the relationships between attributes, it lacks the flexibility to deal with the inherent inexactness and vagueness in the voice of customer. In this paper, fuzzy theory is introduced to overcome this limitation. Qualitative customer requirements are interpreted quantitative data through fuzzy inference procedure, and then target value is determined.

  • Development and implementation of food irradiation was driven by needs pertaining to food safety improvement, food spoilage reduction, and quarantine/trade. The need for food safety is caused by the increasing morbidity and mortality caused by food-borne diseases worldwide, and it affects national economy and world-trade. Radiation technology can serve to ameliorate the vulnerability of our food supply system.
