  • This study is on the feasibility of use of glycoprotein in various areas such as cosmetics and food etc. by extracting, isolating and refining glycoprotein from carrots, red ginseng extract residue, sesame and pine needles using protease(pepsin) and by analyzing general characteristics and measuring various bioactivities. The results of analysis of nutritional composition showed protein contents of glycoprotein. In the analysis of constitutive amino acids, the ratio of contents of hydroxy proline and glycine, the characteristics of glycoproteins appeared similar and the contents of glutamic acid and aspartic acid appeared higher. As a result of measurement contents of total polyphenol and flavonoid, it showed that glycoprotein had more contents generally, and the effect of bioactivity of glycoprotein appeared higher although different kinds of glycoprotein showed a little DPPH radical and nitrite scavenging ability, total antioxidant capacity by ABTS, ACE inhibitory.

  • The penetration force of needle and penetration energy kave been investigated, in order to research into the sewing factors that influence the weft knitted fabric with high elastic property. The results of the studies are a follows: (1) As the results have showed a high correlativity between the needle penetration energy and force, it proves that the dynamic energy produced by the friction of the needle as it penetrates and withdraws from the knitted fabric contributes to the heat growth of the needle. (2) To reduce frictional force the use of thin needles, medium ball point needle and super needle are effective. (3) The reduction in number of plies of fabric or also in the case of a decrease in penetration speed have been effective in lowering the penetration energy and force.

  • Upon studying the diversity of fungal endophytes associated with pine trees in Korea, many species of Penicillium were encountered. In this study, we report two species of Penicillium isolated from the needles of Pinus rigida. Based on ID region analysis, cultural and morphological characteristics, the two species were identified as Penicillium fellutanum and P. toxicarium, both of which are new to Korea.

  • YAKCHIM is a clinical research of korean O.M.D's in the 1960's, and it was activated by experimental research and organization of the association after 1980. YAKCHIM in Korea is a new technical therapy that used the efficacy of traditional herb and the stimulation of meridian at points by needles. In order to search the original form of YAKCHIM and the significance of development in therapeutic methodology, reger to various documents. The results were obtained as follow : 1. The form of injection in YAKCHIM is a developed form of a aspirator which trace the cupping therapy(附缸) to its origin. 2. The injection techniques that used extracts of oriental herb can be found out original methodology in Bee-acupuncture(蜂針) and snake teeth etc. that have been used in far-eastern area from long time ago. 3. YAKCHIM in Korea is a developed form of techniques which was combined with the meridian theory, in consequence, it is difference with an injection syringe which only used to injection in modern medicine.

  • Both pelvic pain associated with cancer and chronic benign conditions may be alleviated by blocking the superior hypogastric plexus. Traditional bilateral placement of needles is the appropriate technique for the patient with pelvic pain due to the bilateral distribution of the disease as well as allowing for individual difference of pelvic cavity. However the technique is a very difficult procedure and painful for the paient. However we have performed transdiscal superior hypogastric plexus neurolysis free of complication.

  • Different masking materials were evaluated for their ability to ameliorate odor of model poultry manure solution by assessing their effects on sensory pleasantness and odor intensity. Results indicated extracts from Eastern red cedar leaves, Loblolly pine needles', and commercial masking agents such as pine extract and odor neutralizer were effective (p<0.05) for masking odor of model poultry manure solution by increasing (p<0.05) pleasantness (82 and 86% increases in pleasantness using red cedar and pine needle extracts, respectively) and decreasing (p<0.05) odor intensity (odor intensity reduction by 66 and 76% using red cedar pine needle extract). The most odor-active compound in Loblolly pine needle extract was ${\alpha}$-terpineol (1,573.8 ug/g) which is responsible for aroma of pine trees (piney) and effective for ameliorating agricultural odors.

  • From the root of Angelica gigas $N_{AKAI}$ (Umbelliferae), known as "Tang Gui" in Korea, substance A (colorless needle crystal, $C_{14}H_{14}O_{4}$, m.p. $178^{\circ}$) and B (white plate crystal, $C_{19}H_{20}O_{5}$, m.p. $111^{\circ}$) were obtained. Acetylation of "A" gave its monoacetate, white needles, $C_{16}H_{16}O_{5}$. Saponification of "B" with 5% sodium hydroxide produced "A" and senecionic acid. Examination using I.R. and N.M.R. spectra shows that "A" is identical with decursinol and that "B" with decursin. The root also appears to contain five coumarin derivatives and two steroidal compounds.

  • A 34 year-old woman was hospitalized with anterior chest pain and indigestion. Chest radiograph and computed tomogram revealed a sewing needle in the cardiac cavity. She had no histories of surgical intervention, drug abuse, or acupuncture. We removed the needle from the right ventricle under cardiopulmonary bypass.

  • Growth inhibitory effects of ethanol extracts of green tea and pine needles on Bacillus stearothermophilus isolated from spoiled red bean paste were detected at concentrations higher than 750 ppm, and antimicrobial activity of pine needle extract was slightly higher than that of green tea exract. Growth inhibitory effect of pine needle extract in nutrient broth adjusted to pH 6.0, water-activity 0.92, and $45\;^{\circ}$Brix was observed at 500 ppm. These results indicated growth of B. stearothermophilus could be inhibited by adding pine needle and green tea extracts.

  • In this study, we describe the change of electrical properties of XLPE with electrical-tree degradation. XLPE insulation was used as specimen which was cut off from 22.9kV XLPE insulated cable and made in a type of block. The applying voltages are 8kV, 10kV, 12kV and frequency is 60Hz Ogra needles having tip radius of 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ were inserted in blocks. PD quantity and $tan{\delta}$ and DC current were measured from inception of tree to breakdown and their characteristics were analyzed.
