The purpose of this survey was to obtain an overall view of the status of cleft lip and palate management in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery(OMFS) in Korea. Korea Cleft lip and Palate Association conducted mailed survey which was composed of 29 questions conceming pre-operative and post-operative management in CLP surgery and completed by 58 training hospital. Of 58 questionnaires sent, 23 were returned(response rate of 40%). Authors compared this results with those of other similar surneys, which reveal much difference between OMFS and Plastic Surgery(PS) in CLP treatment. In OMFS, many surgeons were in favor of presugical orthopaedics than lip adhesion to manage protruded premaxilla. It reflects interdisciplinary team approach between OMFS and orthodontic department reduces the need of lip adhesion through presurgical orthopaedics. Timing of palatal surgery was later than that of PS, which reflects concern for an impediment of maxillaty growth. To our knowledge, this survey may be the first on organization and management for cleft patient in OMFS in Korea.
Dental clinic programs for elementary school children to live healthy life by promote healthy lives by oral health self-management skills. This study on schools with and without dental clinics compared and analyze teacher's knowledge of and attitudes toward oral care and determines whether or not to recommend the school dental clinic program. The subjects of the study were 239 teachers in schools with dental clinics and 201 teachers in schools without dental clinics. In total, the study included 20 schools and 440 teachers. Teachers from schools with dental clinics had a higher recognition rate of the purpose of tooth brushing and the fluoride caries preventive effect than teachers from schools without dental clinics. However, there was no significant difference between schools with and without dental clinics when we compared the daily tooth brushing frequency and oral health attitude. There is also need of a school dental clinic program for teachers because if teachers lack knowledge and professionalism of oral health it will affect the student's oral health attitudes.
Purpose. Infant oral health care forms the basis of lifelong health, and the role of child care teachers in contributing to the quality level in the formation of correct habits at this time throughout the infant's health care and education is very important. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the perceived oral health status of nursery teachers and the necessity of oral health education, and to emphasize that the oral health of teachers is closely related to the oral health of infants and young children. Methods. This study was conducted from May to June 2018 by surveying private nursery teachers in some parts of Gyeongsangbuk-do province by using the self-entry method. The research tools consisted of the general characteristics of subjects, subjective oral health status, oral health practice, oral health education awareness, and oral health education needs. We used shceffe as a post hoc test to compare the differences between groups after frequency analysis, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA analysis. The linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between perceived oral health status, oral health practice and awareness, and oral health education needs. The statistical level was .05. Results. According to the results of this study, the oral health related practice according to the demographic characteristics is at the final education level, and the oral health related awareness is age, marital status and oral health education needs. The results showed statistically significant differences in final educational attainment and cohabitation. Regarding the relationship between perceived oral health status, oral health related practice and awareness, and oral health education needs There were significant differences in oral health practice(β =.329) and oral health education needs (β =.158). Conclusion. Based on the above results, the child care facility can emphasize the importance of the role of the child care teacher in the oral health care of infants, and the basic data for the establishment of the child care management program in the future by reflecting the role of the teacher in the development of the child care management program of the child care facility. The geriatric population is the most rapidly growing part of the general population, which leads to an increase of chronic conditions and illnesses that will influence both oral and systemic health. The most common chronic diseases in elderly population are arthritis, hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes, and cognitive impairment. Chronic impairments such as visual, hearing, orthopedic, and speech disorders are also prevalent among older adults. All these chronic conditions have potential oral complications and the treatments of systemic diseases also has implications for the maintenance of oral health. Therefore, oral health care professionals should catch up with increasing knowledge in this field and can modify the treatment strategy for older adults. In addition, oral health care professionals should understand the changing need of oral health problems in this age and prepare the future demand.
Individuals with special needs include those with behavioral issues, developmental disorders, cognitive disorders, congenital or genetic disorders, or systemic disease. These conditions may place them at increased risk for oral diseases. Dental management of patients with special needs require in-depth understanding of the background of disability and available behavioral guidance theories. Therefore dental team members need more training in the theory and practice of behavior management principles, which might lead to a clinical experience that is more respectful of the dignity and independence of patients with special needs. The dental professional should be flexible to modify the behavior management approach according to the individual patients needs. Also a family/care-giver centered approach based on their preferences and concerns, the patient's challenging behaviors, and related medical problem can serve to improve the treatment planning and oral health management of dental patients with special needs. This article focuses on uncooperative behavior and behavior management, which help practicing dentists to understand their role in the care of patients with special needs.

We conducted a retrospective study and reviewed the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)-related papers published in a leading international journal, Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, between January 2014 and December 2015. The study was conducted to ascertain and compare the trends of articles being published in the years 2014 and 2015. A total of 28 articles were reviewed, of which most of the full-length articles were on clinical management and outcomes and the role of radiology. The bulk of the studies were prospective, and less interest was shown in experimental research. A thorough review and analysis thus gives the impression that there is a great need for well-designed clinical studies on TMJ.
This study conducted an interview questionnaire survey of 245 old people in some halls for the aged in the Daejeon Metropolitan City from June 1 to 31, 2008. on their attitudes toward and practice items for oral health, resulting in the following findings. 1. In terms of socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects, males females were 48.2% and 51.8% respectively, and in the educational level, no-education, elementary school graduation, middle school graduation, and high school graduation and higher were 27.8%, 33.9%, 26.5%, and 11.8%, respectively, showing the statistically significant difference (p=0.009). 2. In terms of attitudes toward oral health management by oral health care education, regarding questions of use of oral and dental hygiene products (p=0.016), experience in scaling, and whether or not they wear false teeth (p=0.018), a group having received the education rather than a group not having received it showed more positive oral health management attitudes, indicating the statistically significant difference. 3. In daily living inconvenience of acute oral health diseases according to oral health care education, acute oral diseases presents in a group with the education ($2.30{\pm}0.72$) lower than in a group without the education ($2.49{\pm}0.63$), indicating the statistically significant difference(p=0.031). 4. Factors of oral health diseases showed the significant relation with types of health insurance, subjective systemic health status, acute diseases and subjective oral health status (p<0.01), and the explanatory power or the final model was 38%. Accordingly it is thought that there is the indicated need for analyzing and grasping factors related to oral health diseases among the elderly through considering their attitudes toward and practice for oral health, and developing programs of enhancing the oral health of the elderly in order for them to change their attitudes and habits, and also reinforcing oral health care education for the elderly focused on making them perform oral health behaviors in a right way.

Thus the study set out to examine oral management according to drinking and smoking to suggest a need for education about oral health and provide basic data for oral health education. Methods : Total 226 subjects, who consist of 141 male adults and 85 female adults, in Gumi were asked to fill out a self-administered questionnaire on October 24, 2009. Their answers to the items about general characteristics, health behavior, and oral health behavior were analyzed with the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Results : 1. As for the frequency of visiting a dental clinic(hospital) for the last year, the non-movement group recorded higher frequency than the movement group, and the drinking group also did than the non-drinking group(p<0.05). 2. As for the experience and frequency of scaling, the female subjects were higher in the experience and frequency of scaling than their male counterparts. The older they got, the more they tended to have scaling. The married respondents had more experiences of scaling than the singles, and the non-drinking group was high in the experience of scaling(p<0.05). 3. As for the number, time, and method of toothbrushing a day, more women answered they brushed teeth three times or more per day than men; those who were in their forties were the highest in terms of the roll method, and those who were in their twenties were the highest in terms of toothbrushing time. The married group and the non-smoking group answered they brushed teeth in the roll method three times or more per day in higher percentage. And the non-drinking group was high in the roll method, which was statistically significant(p<0.05). 4. As for use and kinds of auxiliary oral hygiene devices, the female respondents used them more than their male counterparts. The older they became, the more they used them. The married group, the non-smoking group, and the non-drinking group used such devices a lot. The smoking group used dental floss most, and the non-smoking group used more kinds of such devices than the smoking group, which was statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusion : Oral diseases can be prevented by adopting healthy and right oral management behavior. Using the findings of the study, more diverse programs about actual oral health education should be activated so that people can change their bad oral management and behavior and develop a habit of the right oral management attitude.

Smartphone usage has become so common that it has reached 2 billion people in the last year. As a result of this, hospitals have started making use of smartphones at various medical sites and research services for patients. This study aimed to establish support for developing a long distance program for patients with implants who have difficulty visiting clinics or with busy modern lives, by using smartphones for oral hygiene management instruction. The data were collected for 12 weeks, from July 24 to October 21, 2015, for patients who agreed to participate in the study. Although the subjects found the process of transferring photos via smartphone to be cumbersome (75%), the satisfaction level of the oral hygiene management program was excellent for all participating patients, and they all wanted to continue with further management using this process. The results from the phone satisfaction survey showed that oral hygiene self-management after oral hygiene control training by smartphones was mostly equal to previous habits (87.5%) or had partially increased but had not decreased. The need for data on more varied age groups and the issues of protecting the security of personal information on smartphones require further study. However, our study confirmed the efficacy of using electronic media (smartphones) for oral hygiene management in patients with a dental implant due to their improvement of oral hygiene performance as evidenced by less bleeding from probing on post-program visit.

Despite the current accomplishments with the repair of cleft lips, the surgical management of the nasal deformity remains a functional and aesthetic dilemma for patients, their families, and reconstructive surgeons. Recent improvements in the understanding and technical execution of te primary cleft lip repair have significantly reduced secondary sequelae and the consequent need for secondary surgical correction. But, secondary surgical corrections are necessary according to numerous factors. Such factors include the secondary surgical corrections are necessary according to numerous factors. Such factors include the severity of the initial deformity, the surgical plan, precision of execution of the primary repair, and success of the postoperative management. We preformed the secondary correction of cleft lip and palate in 11 patients via various methods. In conclusion, primary repair of cleft lip and palate patients is the most important to prevent the secondary deformities, and most of cleft lip and palate with secondary deformities must be treated with combined cheiloplasty and rhinoplasty.
