The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimuli and response scales. The stimuli were 28 color pictures manipulated with suit color, necktie color and necktie patterns by computer drawing. The experimental design consists of 3 factorial design; 1) suit color (navy blue, beige), 2) necktie color (analogous, complimentary color), 3) necktie patterns (plain, dot, stripe, check, paisley, floral, abstract) The 7-point semantic differential response scale designed for visual evaluation of men's suit image on suit color, necktie color and necktie patterns were composed of 34 bipolar adjectives. The subject are 150 female undergraduate students in Chin-ju city. They responded twice to 14 stimuli at random order The result of this study are as follows; 1. By analyzing the responses of the subjects, 4 factors emerged in the dimensional structure of the men's suit image formed by suit color, necktie color and necktie patterns. The 4 factors are charm, potency, uniqueness and tenderness. Among these, charming and potential factors proved to be more important. 2. necktie color, suit color and neckite patterns had the significant effect on the formation of men's suit image. In the charm image, only necktie patterns were proved to be the most dominant variable. The most dominant variable in the potencial and unique image was necktie color and second to it suit color was important. But suit color was most significant in the image of tenderness. 3. In the effects of interactions between each variables, the combination of suit color and necktie color wins more significant than that of suit color and necktie patterns and that of necktie color and necktie patterns, but in the image of tenderness, only the combination of suit color and necktie color was more significant. Sets of stimulus and response scales(7 point semantic) were used as experimental materials. The stimuli were 9 color pictures manipulated with the combination of necktie-width and body type using computer simulation. The subjects were 116 male undergraduates and 99 female undergraduates living in Gyeongsangnam-do. Image factor of the stimulus was composed of 4 different components, young-activity, attractiveness-gracefulness, stability, and boldness. In the young-activity, attractiveness-gracefulness and stability, body type and necktie-width showed independent effect. In the boldness, body type showed independent effect. Significant interaction effects of body type and necktie-width on young-activity, attractiveness-gracefulness and stability were found. For young-activity image, necktie of narrow width were effective. For attractiveness-gracefulness image, body type of standard were effective. For stability image, body type of standard and body type of thin on necktie of narrow and medium width were effective. The purpose of this study was to develop customized necktie design according to Korean adult male's body characteristics. For this purpose, experimentations of visual sensory evaluation on visual stimuli which show a man's wearing various neckties were carried out. The subjects were students(n=130) majoring in fashion and design related area and experts(n=6). The data were analyzed by ANOVA, duncan test, pearson's correlation coefficient, cross tabulation using spss pc/sup +/ program. Also statistic of Korea adult men's body measurements(1997) were analyzed and used to decide appropriate necktie length according to the customer's various height. The results were as follows: First, there were significant difference in visual sensibility on the stimuli showing 1) relative location of belt and necktie, 2) neckties with various length using golden ratio to the experimental model's height. Therefore, the need of producing neckties with different length according to customer's various height were verified. Second, neckties with three different length(140cm, 145cm, 151cm) were suggested for the groups of 160cm-height, 170cm-height, 180cm-height according to Korean adult male's body characteristics and aspect of production.
