  • In Korea, special education for the gifted is being activated in school systems, and many researches regarding this special education are being conducted. However, despite its rich research on the programs of this special education, there are almost no research on the institutions layout and spatial design that can utilize them. Considering the heat for education of the present and the researches on education for the gifted so far, this tendency is likely to continue. To study space composition and interior architectural design of children's institution for the gifted, we studied the cases of 5 institutions located in Seoul and the following are the results. The research results are as followed. Most institutions for the gifted used most common and technical paint, wallpaper, and PVC for finishing materials. The colors should be carefully selected, too, so that it will increase inquisitiveness and interest of the children, which will develop into creative ability. In the cases studied, color of most walls and furnitures were not very distinctive: they were in light pastel and bright tone. And there were set of desks in many shapes so it can be put in different ways for different purposes. However, there were also desks that are commonly used at schools, which were limited in arranging in various ways. Most cases studied were located in general building and therefore, natural light source was limited. On the part of appliances, supplements should be made so that classes can be carried out using multimedia materials.

  • A string wallcovering is a kind of textile wallcovering which is made of cellulose fiber yarn laminated on base paper. Compared with normal paper or PVC wallpaper, a string wallcovering is preferred continually in the interior design market, as it is not only environmentally friendly but it also has less cost on mass production without the weaving process and has a natural visual effect, excellent functionality such as thermo keeping, permeability, sound absorption. However, in the dyeing process, it is not appropriate to use plenty of energy such as water, electricity, steam or chemicals considering the environmental trend and the government policy plenty of energy such as water, electricity, steam or chemicals. Currently, a string wallcovering is made of raw white yarn and padding with direct dye or pigment which includes toxic elements, especially the use of direct dye is restricted in a part of the developed country due to inclusion of azo. In this study, we researched dyeing based on cold pad batch dyeing of a string wallcovering with reactive dyestuff. The peel strength and bending depth test confirmed that the optimum adhesive type and spread amount improved the water resistance of the string wallcovering. Also, pad batch dyeing with optimum reactive dyestuff enhanced the color fastness to light and rubbing in dry and wet conditions. Additionally, for improvement of color fastness to rubbing in a wet condition, the additional treatment finishing without soaping process which is used water. The results of this study can be used as basic data for environmentally friendly and energy saving of the textile wallcovering.

  • Starch is an environmental-friendly natural source, more interests are attracted to use starch for synthesis of composites and coating sols. Starch-acrylic coating sols for architectural materials were synthesized by emulsion polymerization. The structures of synthesized materials were characterized by using Infrared spectra, $^1H$-NMR spectra, and physical characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction, foaming test, whiteness test, gloss test and tensile strength test. XRD results showed that starch in starch-acrylic copolymer matrix was in an amorphous state. Starch-acrylic emulsion was compounded with 1%, 3%, 5% foaming agent (n-pentane) and 60% $CaCO_3$ solution. The results showed that starch and foaming agent could increase the foamability. Tensile strength increased with the enhancement of starch and foaming agent concentration. But whiteness and gloss decreased with increase of starch and foaming agent concentration.

  • This study aimed at examining the effect of rooms decorated by eco-friendly finishing materials in a newly built wooden house on the emission of indoor air pollutions. According to the results of examination, the levels of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and styrene in all the rooms were below criteria of indoor air quality of newly-constructed houses. The levels of natural volatile organic compounds (NVOC), anthropogenic volatile organic compounds (AVOC) and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) in room R1-1 which had Hwangto wall covering on it, were relatively higher than in room phytoncide wallpaper covered R2-1. The room R2-2 where bamboo charcoal panel used for wall covering showed higher level of AVOC compared to the room R1-2. Living room R1-3 was found to contain less TVOC, compared to the other four rooms. In addition, the ratio of NVOC to TVOC in the living room was higher than in the other rooms. This seemed to be attributed to Cryptomeria Japonica the living room finished material.

  • Radiation exposure to humans can be caused by the gamma rays emitted from natural radioactive elements(such as uranium, thorium and potassium and any of their decay products) of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials(NORM) or Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials(TENORM) added consumer products. In this study, assume that activity of radioactive elements is $^{238}U$, $^{235}U$, $^{232}Th$ $1Bq{\cdot}g^{-1}$, $^{40}K$ $10Bq{\cdot}g^{-1}$ and the gamma rays emitted from these natural radioactive elements radioactive equilibrium state. In this study, reflected End-User circumstances and evaluated annual exposure dose for products based on ICRP reference voxel phantoms and ICRP Recommendation 103 using the Monte Carlo Method. The consumer products classified according to the adhere to the skin(bracelet, necklace, belt-wrist, belt-ankle, belt-knee, moxa stone) or not(gypsum board, anion wallpaper, anion paint), and Geometric Modeling was reflected in Republic of Korea "Residential Living Trend-distributions and Design Guidelines For Common Types of Household.", was designed the Room model($3m{\times}4m{\times}2.8m$, a closed room, conservatively) and the ICRP reference phantom's 3D segmentation and modeling. The end-user's usage time assume that "Development and Application of Korean Exposure Factors." or conservatively 24 hours; in case of unknown. In this study, the results of the effective dose were 0.00003 ~ 0.47636 mSv per year and were confirmed the meaning of necessary for geometric modeling to ICRP reference phantoms through the equivalent dose rate of belt products.
