  • In this paper, natural convection of a magnetic fluids(W-40) in a half circular pipe enclosure are investigated by numerical and experimental method. One side wall is kept at a constant temperature(25$^{\circ}C$), and the opposite side wall is also kept at a constant temperature(20$^{\circ}C$). Under above conditions, various magnitudes of the magnetic fields were applied up. Theoretical study through the governing equation derived by Siliomis is carried out with numerical analysis by the GSMAC Method. And the thermo-sensitive liquid crystal film(R20C5A) is utilized in order to visualize wall-temperature distributions as an experimental method. This study has resulted in the following fact that the natural convection of a magnetic fluids are controlled by the direction and intensity of the magnetic fields.

  • While the demand for energy has shown a sharp increase recently, the supply seems to be limited by the fact that the conventional fossil fuel energy or nuclear energy has its own environmental problems such as, for example, global warming or nuclear waste disposal. To overcome such limited supply of energy, the utilization of natural thermal energy such as river water and seawater as well as treated sewage can be a substantial supplement. The potential use of the unused energy has become more and more feasible these days as the heat pump technology has been advanced. In the present study, the unused energy resources are estimated on regional and monthly basis for each resource by the method proposed here in order to establish the fundamental data for its utilization. The potential use of the unused energy is a1so discussed.

  • The species composition of the parasitoid complex and the degree of parasitism by each species were analyzed for gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) populations in the increasing phase. Total of 7,826 mid-late instar larvae and pupae were collected and reared from two collection sites in Gangwon Province, Korea. Two tachinid flies (Blepharipa schineri and Parasetigena silvestris), and the ichneumonid wasp (Coccygomimus disparis) were the most abundant parasitoids, in the order of decreasing importance. Other parasitoids occurring included Coteisa melanoscelus, Cotesia scheaferi, Glyptapanteles liparidis, Brachymeria lasus, and Exorista spp. The low incidence of the NPVirus is hypothesized to be an important factor in determining degree of parasitism rate by P. silvestris and B. schineri, and their relative dominance in the parasitoid complex.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the skin irritation by transdermal administration of the three dyes. These dyes were originated from onion by using extraction method. By the order of extraction from onion, A-dye was obtained from onion by using water at 90-100$\circ$C. B-dye was extracted from A-dye with ethylacetate. After ethylacetate extraction from A-dye, the lower layer named as C-dye. Twenty-four New Zealand white rabbits were divided into three groups. The each groups was consisted of two subgroups according to high dose (extracted dyes) and low dose (the 100-fold dilutions of A-, Band C-dye). In primary skin irritation test of male New Zealand White rabbits, body temperature and weights were not significantly changed and blood cells were positioned in normal blood cell ranges of health rabbits. Primary irritation index was "0" in the test and control sites of all animals used in this study. By the results obtained in the present test, all dyes were evaluated as a non-irritant on the basis of the criteria of Draize.of Draize.

  • Recently, reciprocating cryogenic pumps are mainly developed for small-and-mid sized fuel supply systems. Centrifugal type pumps are not actively developed. Most cryogenic submerged pumps are imported. For transportation, cryogenic liquefied natural gas requires the liquid pump technology that can works in extreme evironments. In order to transport liquefied natural gas, it is necessary to apply pump technology. This is the fundamental research for developing the submerged pump technology applicable to the transportation and storage system equipment of cryogenic liquefied system. It tries to secure basic design materials through reverse-engineering in the cryogenic submerged pump development. Regarding materials, STS-304 and STS-431 which are stainless materials widely used in the cryogenic area are applied. Aluminum alloy is applied to impeller and upper manifolder and the pump rotates at the high speed of 6,000rpm.

  • In this proposed work new finite element model for multi-delaminated plates is proposed. In the current analysis procedures of multi-delaminated plates, plate element based on Mindlin plate theory is used in order to obtain accurate results of out-of-plane displacement of thick plate. And for delaminated region, plate element based on Kirchhoff plate theory is considered. To satisfy the displacement continuity conditions, displacement vector based on Kirchhoff theory is transformed to displacement of transition element. The numerical results show that the effect of delaminations on the modal parameters of delaminated composites plates is dependent not only on the size, the location and the number of the delaminations but also on the mode number and boundary conditions. Kirchhoff based model have higher natural frequency than Mindlin based model and natural frequency of the presented model is closed to Mindlin based model.

  • In this study, damage detection method using harmony search method and frequency response is proposed. In order to verify this method, the following approaches are implemented. Firstly, damage detection method using harmony search is developed. To detect damage, objective function that minimize difference with natural frequency and modal strain energy from undamaged and damaged model is used. Secondly, finite element model for beam structure is created. And damage scenario is determined. Lastly, damage detection is performed by proposed method and utility of proposed method is verified.

  • This paper describes ASIC design for brightness revision control, A LED Pixel Matrix (LPM) design and LPM in natural color LED vision. A designed chip has 256 levels of gradation correspond to each Red, Green, Blue LED pixel respectively, which have received 8bit image data. In order to maintain color uniformity by reducing the original rank error of LED, we adjusted the specific character value 'a' and brightness revision value 'b' to pixel unit, module unit and LED vision respectively by brightness characteristic function with 'Y=aX+b'. In this paper, if designed custom chip and brightness revision control method are applied to manufacturing of natural color LED vision, we can obtain good quality of image. Furthermore, it may decrease the cost for manufacturing LED vision or installing the plants.

  • For each construction material used, there is certain theoretical limit in sizes. For tall building construction, the reduction in slab weight is the first step to take in order to break such size limits. In this paper, the feasibility of such objective is proven and given by numerical analysis result. For a typical building slab, both concrete and advanced composite sandwich panels are considered. The concrete slab is treated as a special orthotropic plate to obtain more accurate result. Any method may be used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis. Finite difference method is used for this purpose, in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.
