  • NUI(Natural User Interfaces) has been developed through CLI(Command Line Interfaces) and GUI(Graphical User Interfaces). NUI uses many different input modalities, including multi-touch, motion tracking, voice and stylus. In order to adopt NUI to legacy GUI applications, he/she must add device libraries, modify relevant source code and debug it. In this paper, we propose a gesture-based interface model that can be applied without modification of the existing event-based GUI applications and also present the XML schema for the specification of the model proposed. This paper shows a method of using the proposed model through a prototype.

  • This study examines the dyeability of fabrics in relation to dyeing temperature, time, concentration, and the number of repeated dyeings. For this study, at first we extracted natural dyes from the peel of C.umshiu mandarin, which is fast as a dye and considered as recycling agricultural wastes. Additionally, it represents the image of Jeju Island. Then, we dyed cotton, wool, silk and nylon fabrics with the extracted dyes. The findings of this study are as follows. 1) Dyed cotton, wool, silk and nylon fabrics with the extract of C.umshiu mandarin peel are generally yellow. 2) Wool, nylon, silk, and cotton, in this order, are of good dyeability; Wool fabrics have the highest dyeability and cotton fabrics have the lowest. The dyeabilty of cotton fabrics was not improved even after dyeing in different conditions. 3) Colorfastness with washing, rubbing and perspiration are all good, while colorfastness with light is poor. 4) Higher dyeing concentration makes better dyeability. 5) Dyeability is enhanced as the dyeing temperature increases, while the dyeability of silk and nylon is relatively good even at low temperatures. 6) Looking at dyeability according to dyeing time, the longer the dyeing time, the better the dyeablility. Sixty minutes of dyeing time is appropriate to dye fabrics. 7) With an increase in the number of repeated dyeings, increased dyeability is obtaihed.

  • The objective of this study is to find heat emission characteristics on the natural convection radiator in a heating system when the aspect ratio of radiator is changed. In addition the computer simulation method is used in order to find the characteristics of heat transfer. When the width of the radiator is long and the height of radiator is short, the temperature difference from the floor level 0.5m to about 2.7m above the floor is small. It shows that thermal environment in heating space is good than the other case. For the future, I hope to compare the results between the computer simulation and experimental method for reliability.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hydrophilicity of the fiber on the water vapor transport properties of the fabric by using double layered fabrics of natural and synthetic fibers such as cotton, wool, nylon, dacron, orlon and polypropylene. Wickability and absorption rate were measured to determine the absorbancy of the fabrics. Dynamic and steady state water vapor transport properties were measured by cobaltous chloride method and evaporation method, respectively. Absorption was in the order of orlon> cotton > wool > nylon > polypropylene > dacron. Dynamic surface wetness of synthetic fabrics were faster than that of natural fabrics. For the double layered fabrics, higher water vapor transport was resulted when the natural fabric was exposed to lower vapor pressure and synthetic fabric was exposed to higher vapor pressure than when the fabrics were layered the other way around. Opposite result was obtained for orlon, which suggested that when the fabric of high absorbancy is exposed to the environment and lower absorbancy is to the skin, higher water vapor transpont could be resulted.

  • In order to analysis on color difference of natural dyes, I have dyed Hanji, cotton, silk fabric and exposed them to carbon arc light. The results of experiment have been analysed by wavelength of maximum absorption, amounts of dye uptake, color difference, Hunter's value and Munsell's value. Gardenia Jasminoides is monogenetic dye, but it gained darker color by pre-mordanting method used Al mordant agent and greenish yellow color by Fe mordant agent. whereas Curcuma, an Amur cork, and bud of pagoda tree are shown as greenish yellow color, and A barberry root, Betel nut, and Rhubarb are shown as reddish yellow color. these gained khaki colored dyed fabric by Fe mordanting. In addition, Sappan wood showed great result in pre-mordanting. Especially, it gained dark red color by Al pre-mordanting. The pink color was shown by post-mordanting. and Logwood showed great dyeing result in Hanji and cotton better than silk. Specially pre-mordanting was effective. Hanji and cotton showed greenish blue color by Al pre-mordanting, and silk showed brown color.

  • Finite element (FE) model updating is a procedure to minimize the differences between analytical and experimental results, which can be usually posed as an optimization problem. This paper aims to introduce a hybrid optimization algorithm (GA-SA), which consists of a Genetic algorithm (GA) stage and an Adaptive Simulated Annealing (ASA) stage, to FE model updating for a shrunk shaft. A good agreement of the first four natural frequencies has been achieved obtained from GASA based updated model (FEgasa) and experiment. In order to prove the validity of GA-SA, comparisons of natural frequencies obtained from the initial FE model (FEinit), GA based updated model (FEga) and ASA based updated model (FEasa) are carried out. Simultaneously, the FRF comparisons obtained from different FE models and experiment are also shown. It is concluded that the GA, ASA, GA-SA are powerful optimization techniques which can be successfully applied to FE model updating, the natural frequencies and FRF obtained from all the updated models show much better agreement with experiment than that obtained from FEinit model. However, FEgasa is proved to be the most reasonable FE model, and also FEasa model is better than FEga model.

  • The floating offshore wind turbines are usually exposed to the wave and wind excitations which are irregular and undirected. In this paper, the sloshing characteristics of annular cylindrical tank were experimentally investigated to reduce the structural dynamic motion of floating offshore wind turbine which is robust to the irregular change of excitation direction of wind and wave. The formula for the natural sloshing frequencies of this annular cylindrical tank was derived theoretically. In order to validate this formula, the shaking equipment was established and frequency response functions were measured. Two types of tank were considered. The first and second natural sloshing frequencies were investigated according to the depth of the water. It has been observed that between theoretical and experimental results shows a good agreement.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic characteristics of the shaft with impeller model which is the most important part in developing the resin mixing machine. Through reverse engineering, it is possible to make the shaft with impeller geometry model which is necessary vibration characteristic analysis by commercial impeller. The natural frequency analysis and structural analysis using finite element analysis software are performed on the imported commercial shaft with impeller model. The most important fundamental natural frequency of the shaft with impeller model is around 14.5 Hz, which well agrees with modal testing. The most effective design variables were extracted by ANOM(analysis of means) and pareto chart. This paper presents approximation 2nd order polynomial as design variables using RSM(response surface methodology). Generally, RSM take 2 or 3 design variables, but this method uses 5 design variables with table of mixed orthogonal array. Further more, the analyzed result of the commercial shaft with impeller is to be utilized for the structural design of resin chock mixing machine.

  • Air movement in wokplaces, whether resulting from a forced ventilation system or naturally occurring airflow, has a significant impact on occupational health. In a huge shipbuilding factory building, typical harmful factors such as fume or vaporized gas from welding and cutting of steel plates, and dusts from grinding give unpleasant feeling. From field data survey, the yearly dominant, wind directions for the shipbuilding factory building tested were northwest, northeast and southeast Among the three wind directions, the ventilation improvement was the worst for the northeastern wind. This study was focused on location of the opening vents in order to utilize the natural ventilation effectively. Instantaneous velocity fields inside the 1/1000 scale-down factory building model were measured using a 2-frame PIV system. The factory building model was embedded in an atmospheric boundary layer simulated in a wind tunnel. The modified vents improve the internal Ventilation flow with increasing the flow speed more than two times, compared with that of present vents.

  • In order to investigate the possible use of vegetable kimchi stuff as natural preservatives for kimchi, the methanol extracts of 15 kinds of vegetable kimchi stuff were solvent-fractionated and fractions were tested for antimicrobial activities against Leuconostoc mesenteroids, Pediococcus cerevisiae, Lactobacillus plantarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The neutral fractions of the extracts of garlic and leek showed strong antimicrobial activities. The extract of leek showed particularly strong antimicrobial activities against Ped. cerevisiae and L. plantarum that were known to be main microorganism of fermentation and acidification of kimchi. The results suggest the possible use of the leek extract as natural preservatives for kimchi.
