The conservation and restoration of wetlands are essential tasks for the sustainable development of human society and the environment, providing vital benefits such as biodiversity maintenance, natural disaster mitigation, and climate change alleviation. This study aims to analyze the strategic interactions and interests among various stakeholders using game theory and to provide significant grounds for policy decisions related to wetland restoration and development. In this study, hypothetical scenarios were set up for three types of cities: large, medium, and small. Stakeholders such as governments, development companies, environmental groups, and local residents were identified. Strategic options for each stakeholder were developed, and a payoff matrix was established through discussions among wetland ecology experts. Subsequently, non-cooperative game theory was applied to analyze Nash equilibria and Pareto efficiency. In large cities, strategies of 'Wetland Conservation' and 'Eco-Friendly Development' were found beneficial for all stakeholders. In medium cities, various strategies were identified, while in small cities, 'Eco-Friendly Development' emerged as the optimal solution for all parties involved. The Pareto efficiency analysis revealed how the optimal solutions for wetland management could vary across different city types. The study highlighted the importance of wetland conservation, eco-friendly development, and wetland restoration projects for each city type. Accordingly, policymakers should establish regulations and incentives that harmonize environmental protection and urban development and consider programs that promote community participation. Understanding the roles and strategies of stakeholders and the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy is crucial for making more effective policy decisions.
The morphometry and morphology of the olfactory organ of the southern king spine loach Iksookimia hugowolfeldi were investigated by stereo microscopy and statistical analysis. Its external morphology consists of two holes, the anterior and posterior nostrils. The anterior nostril (0.35~0.53 mm in diameter) forms tubular process protruding vertically from each side of the snout. The posterior nostril (0.32~0.68 mm in major diameter) is a eye-like hole parallel to the skin. Internally, the rosette structure is set with 14 to 21 lamellae and medium raphe on the inner floor. In morphometry, its lamellar number (male vs. female; 18±1.8 vs. 17±1.6, P<0.05) and lamellar number to standard length ratio (24.2±1.3% vs. 21.7±2.5%, P<0.05) was larger in male than female. The lamellar number and standard length have high correlation in male (P<0.001) but not in female (P=0.170). It seems that such characteristics of the olfactory organ of I. hugowolfeldi are related to its bottom-dwelling life which digs and takes a rest under sand and sexual dimorphism by a distinct degree in olfactory dependence for reproduction of each sex.
The in vitro growth of virus-free sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.] plantlets was investigated under different light sources: fluorescent lamp (control); red (660 nm), blue (460 nm), white light-emitting diodes (LED), and two mixtures of blue and red LED (R:B = 8:2, and 7:3). Single node explants (10 mm) of three cultivars ('Matnami', 'Shincheonmi', and 'Yeonhwangmi') were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with $0.2mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 6-benzyladenine for 4 weeks. Explants were exposed to $150{\pm}5{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ photosynthetic photon flux at a distance of 20 cm, constant temperature of $25^{\circ}C$, and under 16/8-h (day/night) photoperiod. Using the same method, the in vitro growth of 10 cultivars under red LED was also compared. After 3 weeks, vine length was highest in plantlets cultured under red LED, and lowest in plantlets cultured under blue LED. Fresh and dry weights were also greatest in plantlets cultured under red LED. Compared to the control, vine thickness was significantly higher in plantlets grown under white LED and the 7:3 R:B LED mixture. Significant differences were observed among the 10 cultivars grown under red LED. 'Matnami', 'Shincheonmi', and 'Shinhwangmi' all had excellent vine lengths, and fresh and dry weights. Compared to the control, vine elongation of sweet potato plantlets was most effective under red LED, and culture duration was about 1 week shorter.
Foulbrood disease is infected by Paenibacillus larvae on larval stage of honeybee, and is lethal disease to result in population death. This disease was manifested in 2008 in Korea, is still suffered by the secondary damages. In this study, we are to examine diagnostic PCR approaches to manage the Foulbrood disease. PCR amplification of 16S rRNA is generally using for microbial infection, but the specificity is little poor for the correct diagnosis. Therefore, we are to identify specific genes expressed in Paenibacillus larvae, and perform PCR analysis. We selected five distinct genes from literature references. Those genes are commonly known as toxic genes for host infection, and include Toxin1, Toxin2A & 2B, SplA, CBP49, and SevA&SevB. PCR amplification for these genes is difficult to detect at the first time. So, we performed the second PCR using the first PCR product as a template. This approach using the nested PCR was very useful for detecting large marker genes. When Paenibacillus larvae was cultured in the medium containing plant extracts, PCR amplification of the identified genes is correlated with the microbial growth inhibition. Therefore, these results suggest that the identified genes might be useful to study diagnostic PCR markers for honeybee Foulbrood disease.
For in vitro minimal-growth conservation of S. sarmentosum, the in vitro shoots with 10 mm length were cultured on Murashige and Skoog's media (MS) containing different levels of agar (0.8, 1.2, 1.6, 2%), Gelrite (0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1%), ABA (0, 5, 10, $20mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), and sucrose (2, 3, 6, and 9%) without subculture at $4^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$. All media were supplemented with $0.2mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BA, agar and Gelrite media, with 5% sucrose, sucrose media, with 1.2% agar, and ABA media, with 5% sucrose and 1.2% agar, respectively. In vitro minimal-growth conservation in room-temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) was effective in the media containing with $10mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ ABA or 1.6% agar, and the healthy plantlets could be preserved for 10 months without subculture. After 12 months at $4^{\circ}C$, survival rate was 100% in all media. The in vitro minimal-growth conservation in low temperature ($4^{\circ}C$) was effective in the media containing with $10mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ ABA or 6% sucrose, and the healthy plantlets could be preserved over 18 months without subculture. Especially, long-term conservation using minimal growth of S. sarmentosum was much more efficient in the medium containing high level sucrose at $4^{\circ}C$ compared to others.

Purpose: An ideal bony construct can be divided into two broad categories: (1) the design and fabrication of biodegradable, biomimetic scaffolds that provide correct signals to induce osteogenesis: (2) the identification of an ideal source of osteoprogenitor cells to seed onto the scaffold. We selected poly-glycolic acid as a synthetic scaffold among various scaffolds because of these properties. Meanwhile, culture medium is supplemented with fetal bovine serum(FBS): such serum contains essential elements such as proteins, hormones, growth factors and trace minerals. The composition of FBS can be ideal for various cell growth in vitro. We supposed that we could enhance bone growth at a fractured site if FBS was mixed with synthetic scaffold-PGA. Methods: We cultured human osteoblasts in five different prepared culture dishes made with FBS and PGA mixture. The mixtures contained different ratio of FBS, that is, 0, 1.5, 3, 7, and 10%. We cultured human osteoblasts for seven days and examined the growth and attachment of the cells at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th days, respectively. Results: In the mixture of 0% FBS and PGA, the growth of the cells lasted for one day. In 1.5 and 3% FBS and PGA, the growth of the cells was examined at the 3rd day, then minimally declined at the 5th and 7th days. In 7% FBS and PGA, the growth of the cells lasted for 5 days, then declined at the 7th day. In 10% FBS and PGA, the growth of the cells lasted for 5 days, then declined at the 7th day. Staining status of the osteoblasts with alkaline phosphatase showed pale pink color in 0% FBS and PGA groups, but bright pink color in 1.5, 3, 7, 10% FBS and PGA groups, especially in 3%, 7%. Conclusion: In consequence, the growth of human osteoblast was higher in the mixture of FBS and PGA groups than in pure PGA ones. It is assumed that the mixture of FBS and PGA affects the proliferation of human osteoblasts.
This study was carried out to determine effectively the sex of rabbit embryos using H-Y antiserum. H-Y antiserum was obtained from inbred SD strain female rat which was immunized by injection of testis cell of inbred SD strain male rate into its spleen. The titer of antiserum was identified by sperm cytotoxicity test and culture of rabbit embryos with antiserum. The developed or undeveloped embryos were separated by exposure the embryos to the antiserum with H-Y antibody. Developed embryo were transferred to the recipients and sex of offspring were examined. 1. In the sperm cytotoxicity test, the rate of dead sperm showed no difference between two antisera from spleen and testis cell as antigens. It is confirmed that H-Y antibody in antiserum was absorbed by H-Y antigen in male rat spleen cells. 2. When rabbit morulae were exposed to antiserum and complement, the rate of embryos developed or arrested was 51 and 49% respectively and the rate was closely same as natural sex ratio of 50:50%. 3. When rabbit morulae were cultured for 12h in the medium containing antiserum produced by antigen of testis cell, the rate of embryos developed or arrested was 48 and 52% respectively and the rate was closely same as natural sex ratio of 50:50%. 4. Eighty rabbit embryos which were not affected by H-Y antiserum were transferred to four recipients. Two recipients were pregnant and born 13 pups among which 2 (14%) were male and 11 (86%) were female. In conclusion, existence of H-Y antibody in the serum from female rat immunized by injecting testis cell from newborn male rat to the spleen of the female rat was confirmed. When rabbitmorulae were exposed to H-Y antiserum and complement, about a half of embryos were developed to blastocysts. When the rabbit embryos not affected by H-Y antiserum were transferred, the rate of female offspring was 86%. Therefore, it was identified that most of embryos which were not affected by H-Y antiserum were female.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor (HB-EGF) on the rate of blastocyst formation and hatching in the mouse embryos and the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and ATPase ${\gamma}$-subunit mRNA. Methods: Late 2-cell mouse embryos was cultured for 72 hours in RTF medium containing with 1, 10, and 100 ng/ml HB-EGF. The mRNA expression level of MMP-9 and ATPase ${\gamma}$-subunit was detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: The rate of hatching was significantly higher (p<0.05) in group containing with 1 ng/ml HB-EGF than other groups. Also, the rate of hatched blastocyst was significantly higher (p<0.05) in 10 ng/ml. The mRNA expression level of MMP-9 mRNA was not shown any difference among groups, but ATPase ${\gamma}$-subunit was higher than other groups. Conclusions: Taken together these results suggest that HB-EGF has the positive effect to promote the blastocyst formation and hatching process and influences the blastocoel expansion by promoting the ATPase mRNA expression in the mouse embryos.
A simulation study on SCR(steam carbon dioxide reforming) in gas-to-liquid(natural gas to Fischer-Tropsch synthetic fuel) process was carried out in order to find optimum reaction conditions for SCR experiment. Optimum operating conditions for SCR process were determined by changing reaction variables such as temperature and $CH_4/steam/CO_2$ feed ratio. Simulation was carried out by Aspen Plus. During the simulation, overall process was assumed to proceed under steady-state conditions. It was also assumed that physical properties of reaction medium were governed by RKS(Redlich-Kwong-Soave) equation. Optimum simulation variables such as temperature and feed ratio were determined by considering $H_2/CO$ ratio for FTS(Fischer-Tropsch synthesis), $CH_4$ conversion, and $CO_2$ conversion. Simulation results showed that optimum reaction temperature and $CH_4/steam/CO_2$ feed ratio in SCR process were $850^{\circ}C$ and 1.0/1.6/0.7, respectively. Under optimum temperature of $850^{\circ}C$, $CH_4$ conversion and $CO_2$ conversion were found to be 99% and 49%, respectively.

Mupung granite, which is located adjacent to Gimcheon granites to the north and Geochang granites to the south, has been known to consist of biotite-hornblende granite (Gbh), porphyritic granite (Gp), and hornblende-biotite granite (Ghb). In this study, we subdivided the Gbh of Mupung granite into biotite granite (Gb) and biotite hornblende granite (Gbh), based on petrological observations. The grayish Gb with medium to coarse grain and porphyritic texture contains a small amount of muscovite, but the hornblende and mafic microgranular enclave (MME) is not observed in Gb. On the other hand, MME can be commonly found in pinkish Gbh. The mafic minerals in Gbh are mostly hornblende and biotite. In the Gb in Mupung granites, the hornblende and sphene (which is the characteristic minerals in Gimcheon granite) are not observed. In addition, the trend of the changes in major elements of Gb in Mupung granites is similar to that of Geochang granites. These petrological characteristics suggest that the Gb in Mupung granite has a similarity with Geochang granite (than Gimchen granite). We also observed that the texture and composition of minerals of Gbh, as well as those of surrounding Gp and Ghb, are consistent with the characteristics of Cretaceous granites in Gyeongsang basin, rather than those of Jurassic granites in Yeongnam massif.
