  • Science education researchers have discussed more effective STPD(Science Teacher Professional Development) based on a variety of perspectives, pointing out the limitations of traditional STPD. In this study, we selected eight major issues for more efficient STPD based on the literature review, summarized the literature review contents for each issue, and proposed a draft STPD standard based on the literature review. Using the draft STPD standard, a questionnaire for the Delphi survey was developed and a two-phase Delphi survey was conducted. The questionnaire consisted of 25 statements describing the STPD standard, and respondents were asked to indicate the validity and importance of the statement on a Likert scale, followed by an explanation and suggestions for revision. Twenty-one science educators and science teachers participated in the Delphi survey, and the results of the second round of the survey showed high levels of agreement on the validity and importance of all statements describing the STPD standard. For the content validity ratio and coefficient of variation, all statements met the criteria, and for the convergence and consensus, all but two statements met the criteria. Two statements were revised to reflect comments from the Delphi survey and were included in the final STPD standard. As a result, we developed STPD standard consisting of 23 statements in eight categories, and we discussed the disadvantages and advantages of the developed STPD standard and how to utilize them, as well as suggestions for future improvement and research.

  • In this study, we investigate the influence of national culture on technological innovation activities. First, we discuss the concept of national culture and various cultural dimensions and measurements. Second, we analyze previous literature to explore the theoretical mechanisms in the relationship between national culture and technological innovation. Each cultural dimension has it own mechanism regarding the relationship and in some dimensions mixed theoretical arguments and empirical results are found. Lastly, we also explore how the national culture interacts with characteristics of technology, (social) institutions and public policies while it affects the technological innovation. Based on an literature review on the issue, we propose new research agenda and discuss avenues for future research. The implications for the research are also presented.

  • Congenital craniofacial disorders represent approximately 20% of all birth defects, One of these disorders is syngnathia, Congenital fusion of the maxilla and mandible is rare and can present in a wide range of severity from single mucosal band(synechiae) to complete bony fusion(syngnathia), Syngnathia, congenital bony fusion of the mandible and maxilla, is even less common than synechiae, with only 25 cases reported in the literature, Most of them have presented as an incomplete, unilateral fusion, We report a case of unilateral bony fusion of the maxilla, mandible, and zygomatic arch, Details of operative management and follow-up data are presented with review of literature.

  • Objectives : This study is aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of Ryodoraku for traditional Korean medicine practice reported in the Korean literature. Methods : A search of seven Korean databases was performed up to May 2011 using the search term 'Ryodoraku(in Korean)'. All clinical studies on diagnostic Ryodoraku characteristics were included. Results : The search yielded 59 studies, of which 5 were considered suitable for this analysis. Four were observational studies. Only one was a controlled trial. Average Ryodoraku score(RS), mean values for each measure point, physiologic limit, number of Pyesaek and Gyeokcha, and pattern classification were used as references for the analysis. Correlations were observed between average RS and idiopathic Parkinson's disease, some sub-groups of respiratory disease, chronic low back pain, and menopause. Some mean values for measure points showed particularly high or low tendencies in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease, chronic low back pain, and menopause. Positive correlations were observed between the number of Pyesaek and H-Y stage in idiopathic Parkinson's disease and F2(肝) and the modified Kupperman's index with menopausal women. The four classes, organized based on Ryodoraku pattern, showed differences in various characteristics. Conclusions : Since only five studies met the experimental conditions, this evaluation of the diagnostic value of Ryodoraku in various situations is limited. Future studies should be conducted using various physiologic and pathologic situations.

  • We report a rare case of a spinal intramedullary ependymal cyst in a 46-year-old female and review the 17 pathologically proven cases in the literature. The patient presented with a two-week history of gradually increasing tingling in her left posterior thigh and calf. A preoperative magnetic resonance image revealed a well-defined intramedullary cystic lesion on the ventral side of the spinal cord at the T11 to T12 levels. The lesion was hyper intense in T2-weighted images and hypointense in T1-weighted. The patient underwent a right-side hemilaminectomy at the T11 to T12 levels and fenestration of the cyst wall. After having the cyst wall partially removed and communication established between the cyst and the subarachnoid space, the patient improved neurologically. A histological study of the surgical specimens revealed that the cyst wall consisted of glial cells lined by a simple cuboidal to columnar epithelium. An immunohistochemical examination of the cells lining the cyst wall was positive for S-100 protein, glial fibrillary acidic protein, epithelial membrane antigen, and cytokeratin. We suggest that the optimal treatment of intramedullary ependymal cysts creates adequate communication between the cyst and the subarachnoid space.

  • A case of symptomatic Rathke's cleft cyst, which recurred five months after drainage of the cyst using transs-phenoidal approach, is presented. Symptomatic recurrence after surgery of Rathke's cleft cyst is very rare and nine cases have been reported in the literatures. The radiological and pathologic features and clinical course of this unusual case are described. Recent concepts about embryological pathogenesis and clinical behavior mimicking craniopharyngioma are discussed with the review of literature.

  • Giant cavernous malformations (GCMs) occur very rarely and little has been reported about their clinical characteristics. The authors present a case of a 20-year-old woman with a GCM. She was referred due to two episodes of generalized seizure. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance image demonstrated a heterogeneous multi-cystic lesion of $7\times5\times5$ cm size in the left frontal lobe and basal ganglia, and enhancing vascular structure abutting medial portion of the mass. These fingings suggested a diagnosis of GCM accompanying venous angioma. After left frontal craniotomy, transcortical approach was done. Total removal was accomplished and the postoperative course was uneventful. GCMs do not seem differ clinically, surgically or histopathologically from small cavernous angiomas, but imaging appearance of GCMs may be variable. The clinical, radiological feature and management of GCMs are described based on pertinent literature review.

  • Mutual radiation impedance becomes more important in the design and analysis of acoustic transducers for higher power, better beam pattern, and wider bandwidth at low frequency sonar systems. This review paper focused on literature survey about the researches of mutual radiation impedance in the acoustic transducer arrays over 60 years. The papers of mutual radiation impedance were summarized in terms of transducer array structures on various baffle geometries such as planar, cylindrical, spherical, conformal, spheroidal, and elliptic cylindrical arrays. Then the computation schemes of solving conventional quadruple integral in the definition of mutual radiation impedance were surveyed including spatial convolution method, which reduces the quadruple integral to a double integral for efficient computation.

  • Natural fibers reinforced polymer composites are being used in several low strength applications. More research is going on to improve their mechanical and interface properties for structural applications. However, these composites have serious issues regarding flammability, which are not being focused broadly. A limited amount of literature has been published on the flame retardant techniques and flammability factor of natural fibers based polymer matrix composites. Therefore, it is needed to address the flammability properties of natural fibers based polymer composites to expand their application area. This paper summarizes some of the recent literature published on the subject of flammability and flame retardant methods applied to natural fibers reinforced polymer matrix composites. Different factors affecting the flammability, flame retardant solutions, mechanisms and characterization techniques have been discussed in detail.
