  • Image transmission by means of telecommunications is an essential task for information sharing. For considerable distances, wireless channels can be utilized and tuned for proper uses of image data exchange. However, the disturbances that a radio wave encounter during transmission causes partial or total loss of information. Result of such communications is a distorted image at the receiver's end. This paper proposes an auto-encoder architecture as an image enhancement method for narrow-bandwidth radio images. With this method, a distorted image can be improved for better receiver satisfaction. The proposed auto-encoder is trained with many narrow-bandwidth radio image data; hence it enhances a given distorted image. Also, the results were verified with the original image data being the reference images.

  • Previous work on the phase-shifted version of the multichannel quantum-defect theory (MQDT) for a system involving 2 closed and many open channels (Lee, C.-W. Bull. Korean Chem. Soc. 2010, 31, 1669) was extended to obtain the formulae of the spectral shape parameters with the structure of a pole extracted explicitly for general cases only limited by 2 non-degenerate closed channels. The theory was applied to the narrow $6p_{1/2,3/2}np$ J = 1 autoionizing Rydberg series in barium perturbed by the $6p_{3/2}nf$ states obtained by de Graaff et al.

  • Turbulent flow characteristics on the gap of two parallel channels are investigated using LES(large eddy simulation) approach. Two parallel channels have the same cross-section area and are connected by the narrow channel named the gap. Turbulent flow near the gap makes the flow pulsation along the streamwise direction of two channels. The flow condition is the Reynolds number of $2.5{\times}10^{-5}$. We compared the predicted results with the previous experimental results and presented the axial mean velocity, turbulent intensities, Reynolds shear stresses and turbulent kinetic energy.

  • An in-line dispersive delay line (DDL) demands low and controllable reflectivity of the reflectors, especially if the surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagates all the way along the reflecting structure. The metal reflectors are usually too strong and introduce too much attenuation in such a device. The proposed solution of this problem is to spatially separate the acoustic channels for different frequencies with the help of Fan-shaped Transducers (FIDT) and to use narrow open metal reflectors to reduce reflectivity. Special arrangement of FIDT is performed to use 180-deg. reflection of the SAW. Narrow open metal strips with a metallisation ratio of the order of 20% are used as reflectors with small and controllable reflectivity. Reflectivity of such strips is estimated both theoretically and experimentally. Experimental performance of the proposed DDL is presented.

  • A multiple output dc-dc resonant converter topology for an independent voltage control technique is proposed, using a narrow frequency selection band-pass filters. The multi-output converter is supplied by a single source inverter with the superposed sinusoidal signals reserved for each output. A series-series parallel resonant topology is utilized to implement the narrow frequency selection channels for minimum interference. Finally the experimental setup for four output dc-dc converter is verified with the narrow channel frequencies of 26 kHz, 32 kHz, 38 kHz and 46 kHz.

  • Because of superior division among sub-channels, DWT MC-CDMA is less interference with neighborhood channel. In our newly proposed multi-carrier CDMA data transmission method, lIR CMFB filter banks sharply divide sub-bands and reduces spectral overlaps among neighboring sub-channels. In experiment result, proposed filter is better ability of sub-band division than FIR filter. Since the proposed cosine modulated filter banks lIR filter having wavelet property is designed to response sharp transition band, the ISI and ICI between neighboring sub-channels can be effectively reduced. And robustness about narrow band interference of CMFB IIR MC-CDMA almost same FIR DWT MC-CDMA.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient channel delay estimation method for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, especially over doubly-selective fading channels which are selective in both the symbol time domain and subcarrier frequency domain. For the doubly-selective fading channels in single frequency network (SFN), long and strong echoes exist and thus the conventional discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) based channel delay estimation system often fails to produce the exact channel delay profile. Based on the analysis of the discrete-time frequency response of the channel impulse response (CIR) coefficients in the DFT-based channel delay estimation system, we develop a method to effectively extract the true CIR from the aliased signals by employing a simple narrow-band low-pass filter (NB-LPF). The performance of the proposed system is verified using the COST207 TU6 SFN channel model.

  • This paper presents numerical and theoretical studies of acoustic wave interactions in slightly compressible liquids within piezoelectrically driven inkjet print heads. The interconnected flow channels may cause jet crosstalk, resulting in poor printing quality. It should be reduced by modifying the channel structure with the acoustic wave interactions considered. Compressible gas flow driven by the sudden movement of a top wall in the channel is calculated using Flow3D and is validated with the narrow gap theory. Limited compressibility model of the Flow3D is employed to calculate pressure waves of slightly compressible ink flow. It is found that reducing restrictor width can damp out the jet crosstalk by inhibiting the pressure wave propagation. The degree of crosstalk has been quantified using the maximum values of cross-correlations between neighboring channels and a critical channel dimension for acceptable crosstalk has been proposed. This finding is verified by drop visualization experiments using silicon-micromachined piezo inkjet print heads that are fabricated by our group.

  • The aim of this study is fabricating of composite filler metal (CFM) by a combination of selective laser sintering (SLS) of stainless steel powders (RapidSteel $2.0^{TM}$ and liquid phase infiltration of Ag-28 wt.%Cu alloy. Porous stainless steel body with inter-connected pore channels was fabricated by SLS, binder decomposing and densification processes. By the direct contact infiltration, the narrow inter-particle channels of the porous body were completely filled with the Ag-28 wt.%Cu alloy infiltrant. During infiltration, the dissolved elements of Fe, Ni and Cr from the porous body were solved into copper solid solution phases, which consist of eutectic structure of composite metal matrix. The S10C/CFM/S10C joints, which have narrow clearance gaps between them up to 10 micrometers, were joined successfully by self-feeding of filler metal from the matrix of CFM. The CFM kept its original thickness and microstructure after brazing. The tensile strength of brazed specimen was higher than 30 kgf/$mm^2$ and showed a typical ductile fracture mode in the CFM.

  • Electronic warfare systems are needed to be advantageous in the modern war. Many radar threat signals with various frequency spectrums and complicated techniques exist. For detecting the threats, a receiver with wide and narrow-band digital processing is needed. To process a wide-band searching mode, a polyphase filter bank has become the architecture of choice to efficiently detect threats. A polyphase N-path filter aligns the re-sampled time series in each path, and a discrete Fourier transform aligns phase and separates the sub-channel baseband aliases. Multiple threats and CW are detected or rejected when the signals are received in different sub-channels. And also, to process a narrow-band precision mode, a direct down converter is needed to reduce aliasing by using a decimation filter. These digital logics are designed in a FPGA. This paper shows how to design and develop a wide and narrow-band digital receiver that is capable to detect the threats.
