  • Mathematics subject has been recognized as a subject in which we resolve some problematic situations through the logical and mathematical thinking according to mathematical concepts, principles, and rules. So we has focused on cultivating logical and mathematical thinking abilities when teaching and learning mathematics. However according to Bruner, we can use the narrative mode of thought which supplements the logical and scientific mode of thought when we think about logical and scientific matters, and we could make meanings by doing so. On the other hand, the Ministry of Education has announced recently that it would develope the textbooks of storytelling type of mathematics, and then many people have been interested in using stories in mathematics subject. The purposes of this article are to investigate the effects and the defects of using stories in mathematics subject, to probe the narrative characteristics of mathematics, and to inquire how using mathematics narrative can make students to make meaning about mathematics which compensates the defects of using stories in mathematics subject. And the main purpose is to inquire the implications of using mathematics narrative in teaching and learning mathematics.

  • The knowledge of the narrative agent not only constitutes the content and meaning of the narrative itself, but is also closely related to the emotional response of the recipient. Also, the disparity of knowledge between narrative agents is an important factor in making a narrative richer and more interesting. But It tends to be treated as a sub-topic of narration theory or genre/style studies rather than an independent subject of narrative studies or criticism. In this paper, I propose a model that can systematically and quantitatively analyze the knowledge of narrative agents. The proposed model consists of the knowledge structure that represents a narrative, the knowledge state that expresses the knowledge of narrative agent as a degree of belief, and the knowledge flow that means changes in the knowledge state according to the development of events. In addition, the formal notation of the knowledge structure and a probabilistic inference model that could obtain the state of knowledge were proposed, and the knowledge structure and knowledge flow were analyzed by applying the model to the actual narrative. It is expected that the proposed model will be of practical help in the creation and evaluation of narratives.

  • The essay explores the narrative structure of the classical Chinese feature animation, (a.k.a. Da Nao Tian Gong, 1964). The film is presented with a modular structure which is quite unique compared with the storytelling in feature animated films from other cultures, but could be connected with the tradition narrative structure in Chinese Zhanghui style novels in Ming and Qing Dynasty. By relating the original text of the story, the 16th century novel Journey to the West (a.k.a. Xi You Ji), with the film , the essay addresses the question of how the narrative tradition in Chinese classical literature influenced the Uproar in Heave for its segment narrative structure, character driven storytelling strategy and mirrored repetitive 2 plot lines. The subject of this essay is even more significant after the restored 3D version of was re-released in the spring of 2012 and became one of the best-selling animated feature film in the history of the country.

  • In the actantial model of Algirdas Julius Greimas, a story makes 3 kinds of relationships with 6 actants, and, in these relationships, the desires of subjects and objects are operated. And, when the subject performs its desire, there are both assistance of helper and disturbance of opponent. And, the object of desire wanted by the subject is provided by sender and receiver. Using this actantial model, this study analyzed the narrative structure of the animation 'Dalbitgungjeon', and, by rearranging the subject of capacity, examined general stream of communication. Korean animations have tried to approach using archetypes of Korean culture as motifs with various perspectives. But, it is true that, compared with foreign animations dramatized using cultural archetypes, Korean animations still have something to be desired. Thus, this study analyzed the narrative structure of 'Dalbitgungjeon' which was recently producted using archetypes of Korean culture as its motif, and, rearranging the subject of capacity, examined general stream of communication. By doing this, this study tried to search for the method of producing an animation equipped with more advanced narrative structure. Of course, narrative structure of Greimas has been studied in various aspects. However, there are still not enough animation researches using cultural archetypes of Greimas. Considering such aspects, this study focused on searching for a method of using the formation of cultural archetypes based on the analysis of fables of Greimas.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the logic of choice, transformation, and exclusion in The Song of sword, comparing it with the historical records. This paper explains how a novel is 'produced'. Through this, it searches for the aspects in which The Song of sword changed into 'a narrative revealing the disillusionment of the novel's subject with the world'. In the logic of choice, it explores which time and space were chosen in the novel, and which character was chosen to prepare the content and formal framework of the novel. In the logic of transformation, it is confirmed that the meaning of 'individual' is highlighted in the novel, unlike the historical records, by transforming both the character of the enemy and the meaning of war. In the logic of exclusion, it studies the characteristics of the modern (novel's) subject in the novel by excluding the characteristics of the historical subject that existed in a particular time and space. This paper differs from previous studies in that it examines the way in which a novel is produced by comparing and analyzing The Song of sword based on the historical records. Through these analyses, we can see the unity of various heterogeneous elements, such as the historical reality, the writer's ideology and imagination, and the desire of the contemporary in the form of a novel. Also, by examining the elements of text that can not be sutured into a complete form, we can see the meaning of the novel's text as an unstable system.

  • This study is to propose the possibility of narrative or story as a research methodology in the field of library and information science. To do this, I discuss the power and possibility of storytelling as a epistemological method of social science. Later, I look into turn to narrative in western scholarly traditions. And then, I introduced the process and the characteristic of the narrative inquiry as a subject and a methodology of research. I compare to another research methodology, ethnography and phenomenological research. At last, I reviewed the literature which is conducted by the methodology of narrative inquiry in the field of library and information science. I consider the possibility of adaptation of narrative inquiry in the field.

  • The film House of Hummingbird intersects Korean modern history and personal history through the eyes of a teenage girl, and closely explores how patriarchy and Korean capitalism leave traces and internal impressions on the growing up of the female subject. This film is a meaningful text in terms of showing what changes can occur when the subject is transformed from a boy to a girl in the narrative of growth and when a feminist point of view is entered. House of Hummingbird reveals the weakness of the patriarchal symbolic order through the gaze of a teenage girl in the episodic narrative composition, and also discovers the possibility of close relationships and bonds between women in the gaps. In particular, Yeong-ji, the main character girl Eun-hee's Chinese language school lecturer, is a new female character that has never been seen in Korean teenage films. As a result, in House of Hummingbird, we meet a new female subject who negotiates the pain of growth in a 'good enough' condition.

Portrait of the artist's work presented in this perspective is the default attitude that gives the order to the drama itself, because it is the drama of aesthetic structure will eventually work through the people in the know.
