Data-driven modeling of optimal intensity measure of soil-nailed wall structures

  • This article examines the seismic vulnerability of soil nail wall structures. Detailed information regarding finite element modeling has been provided. The fragility function evaluates the relationship between ground motion intensities and the probability of surpassing a specific level of damage. The use of incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) has been applied to the soil nail wall against low to severe ground motions. In the nonlinear dynamic analysis of the soil nail wall, a set of twenty seismic ground motions with varying PGA ranges are used. The numerical results demonstrate that the soil-nailed wall reaction is extremely sensitive to earthquake ground vibrations under different intensity measures (IM). In addition, the analytical fragility curve is provided for various intensity values.

Longitudinal Supraspinatus Tear Associated with Antegrade Humeral Intramedullary Nailing: A Case Report and Literature Review with Focus Placed on Nail Entry Point

  • Iatrogenic damage of the rotator cuff followed by postoperative shoulder function loss is a potential complication after antegrade intramedullary nailing (AIN) for a humeral fracture. The authors present a case of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and subacromial decompression of a non-healed rotator cuff tendon (mainly supraspinatus) and secondary impingement syndrome caused either by the tear or a proud nail after AIN for a mid-shaft humeral fracture. At presentation, the patient complained of right shoulder pain and 'snapping', especially during forward elevation and abduction of the shoulder, of 4 years duration. Right shoulder pain started sometime after pain due to the humeral shaft fracture, operation had subsided, and persisted after nail removal. Arthroscopic findings showed a longitudinal rotator cuff tear at the nail entry point that had not healed and severe fibrous hypertrophy on the acromion underspace, which is a unique finding since most longitudinal splits of tendon fibers are more likely to heal than conventional rotator cuff tears detached from bone. The torn rotator cuff was repaired after debridement and placing side-to-side sutures. At his 34-month follow-up after rotator cuff repair, the patient showed complete recovery and had excellent clinical scores.

Economical Ventilation Effectiveness to Reduce Hazardous Chemical Emissions for a Nail-Salon Worker

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate economical ventilation effectiveness to reduce hazardous materials exposure and damage of workers by analyzing exposure amount of noxious substances under various ventilation conditions of nail salon for indoor environments. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was carried out with cooperation of Nail shop located in SeongNam city to involve an analysis of the environmental impact indoor air quality, pollutant exposure and economical cost-effectiveness in the nail workplace. The hazardous substances were PM-10(Particulate Matter-10㎛), VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds) and Formaldehyde, which are the major materials of nail workplace. Results - PM-10 is reduced by about 60% with air cleaner, forced artificial ventilation by 32%, and natural ventilation by about 12%. TVOCs and Formaldehyde showed similar efficiency (80~100%) after natural ventilation and ventilation after 60 minutes. The removal efficiencies of VOCs and formaldehyde were similar to those of natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation system. However, in case of dust, natural ventilation was reduced by artificial ventilation system due to inflow of external dust during natural ventilation. Conclusions - If the pollution degree of outdoor air is not high, air volume is high, and natural ventilation is performed when the air conditioning and heating system is not operated. Even at the end of the work, it keeps operating for 60 minutes to remove the pollutants generated. Results of this analysis demonstrated that the worker environment can be improved by adopting institutional legislation and guidelines for ventilation.

쏘일 네일 두부 구속조건이 사면 안정성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Constrain Condition of Soil Nail Head on Slope Stability)

  • 지진 및 해일과 같은 자연재해는 갑작스럽게 발생하므로 막대한 인명 피해 및 재산피해를 야기한다. 특히 지진은 이에 동반된 광범위한 피해로 인하여 특히 심각한 위협이 된다. 국내의 경우 비탈면 설계 및 시공 시 내진설계가 거의 적용되지 않고 있다. 하지만 점차적으로 내진에 대하여 중요성을 인지하고 이에 대한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 비탈면의 안정화를 위한 공법 중 쏘일 네일 공법은 타 공법에 비해 시공성, 경제성이 우수한 공법으로 비탈면 안정을 위한 보강공사에도 광범위하게 이용되고 있다. 이러한 공법에 대한 연구는 네일과 주변지반의 상호거동에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있으며, 정하중 및 동하중 등의 다양한 하중조건에서의 안정성에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 네일 두부의 구속조건에 따른 네일과 비탈면과의 상호거동에 대한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 네일 두부 구속조건에 따른 보강 비탈면의 안정성에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 수치해석을 수행하였다. 그 결과 지진하중에 대하여 네일 두부가 구속된 경우가 비구속된 경우에 비해 지진하중에 대하여 저항이 큰 것으로 나타났다.

  • 대퇴골은 사람의 뼈 중 가장 길며 체중을 지탱하는 골격체로 대퇴골간은 긴 파이프 모양이면서 안에 해면골이 거의 없어서 골절이 발생되면 재생이 어렵다. 사고로 인하여 발생되는 대퇴골의 골절은 골간부가 가장 높은 빈도로 발생한다. 골절의 수술방법은 골수강에 IM Nail을 삽입하여 골절부위를 고정하는 IM Nailing이다. 수술 시 대퇴골의 중심으로 진입하지 못하면 2차 골절 등의 피해가 발생하기도 한다. 본 연구에서는 수술 전 대퇴골의 CT IMAGE을 이용하여 3D 프린터로 환자 맞춤형 대퇴골을 제작하여 골수강으로 IM Nailing 시뮬레이션을 할 수 있도록 하였다. 수술 중 발생할 수 있는 2차적 손상을 방지 하고 시간 단축, 정밀한 수술을 할 수 있을 것이다.

유한차분해석과 한계평형해석의 비교를 통한 평면파괴 사면 쏘일네일링 보강효과 연구 (Reinforcing Effect of a Soil Nailing on Plane Failure of a Slope by Comparing Finite Difference Analysis with Limit Equilibrium Analysis)

  • 사면파괴로 인한 피해사례가 늘어남에 따라 사면을 안전하게 설계하고 시공하는 것은 대단히 중요하다. 현재 실무에서 주로 사용되는 한계평형해석은 간단한 계산에 의해 안전율을 산정할 수 있지만 활동면을 미리 가정한다는 단점이 있다. 한편 유한차분해석 시 전단강도감소기법을 이용하여 안전율 산정이 용이해짐에 따라 설계 시 이용되는 빈도가 점차 증가하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 두 가지 해석방법의 비교를 통해 합리적인 쏘일네일링 설계방안의 제안을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 평면파괴 예상구간에 쏘일네일링 보강 시 보강패턴에 따른 보강효과를 비교해보았다. 그 결과 네일의 각도와 간격에 따른 보강효과는 동일하게 나타났다. 하지만 네일 길이가 증가함에 따라 한계평형해석의 경우 안전율이 증가하였지만 유한차분해석의 경우 안전율의 변화가 없었다.

TPO 시트재와 유도가열공법을 적용한 고내풍성 지붕마감 공법 (The Roofing System of High wind-Resistant Performance using Thermoplastic polyolefin and Electromagnetic Induction Technology)

  • Strong winds according to global warming cause the increase of the frequency and the repair cost of damaged roofs. In the United States, Factory Mutual Insurance Company(FMIC) promotes the roofing design that resists heavy wind-load, as the means of strict criteria. This fact reveals that more durable roofing system will be also required in Korea. Therefore, this study aims at developing such a system with high wind-resistance performance using Thermoplastic polyolefin(TPO) and Electromagnetic induction technology(EIT) than the previous systems. The system presented in this study consists of 4 main devices as follow; 1) a disc to fix sheets for TPO & EIT method, which can conduct structural design according to site condition, such as region, building height, and wind load. 2) a nail to have about 30% stronger lifting-up capacity than that of the previous nail. 3) a disc to fix sheets, which has triangle protuberance not to damage sheets in the repeatable wind load, and 4) a electromagnetic induction device to combine a disc and a sheet by heating uniformly and quickly adhesive agent on the disc. The results of mock-up test illustrate that the system provides wind-resistant performance to achieve satisfactorily the structural design criteria of FMIC. In addition, the system is faster, chipper, and easier than the existing system, and is expected that this roofing system can be applied to the rehabilitations of an existing as well as a new building.

L형 GFRP 외부부착 보강된 보의 휨 실험을 통한 보강 거동분석 (Evaluation of Beam Behavior with External Bonded L-type GFRP Plate through bending Test)

  • 국내 사회기반 시설물의 경우 70년대 이후로 건설되어 향후 신규건설에 대한 수요보다 유지보수에 대한 수요가 크게 증가할 것으로 전망된다. 더욱이 경주지진과 포항지진 이후로 과거 시공된 시설물의 내진성능에 대한 평가 및 보수 보강 사업이 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 보강공법 중 L형 GFRP 외부부착공법을 대상으로 하여 시험체를 설계하고, 에폭시와 화약식 타정 총으로 압력 핀을 시공하는 방법으로 외부부착된 L형 GFRP Plate의 보강효과를 확인하기 위하여 4점 휨 시험을 수행하였다. 실험결과를 바탕으로 L형 GFRP Plate의 보강효과를 확인하고, 국내의 "복합신소재시스템에 의한 철근콘크리트구조물의 보강설계 및 시공 지침서"에 따라 L형 GFRP 외부부착공법이 적용된 보의 거동에 대하여 평가하고 에폭시와 압력 핀을 조합하여 시공하는 부착방법의 효용성을 평가하였다. 실험 결과를 분석한 결과 지침에 따른 설계는 부재의 강도를 잘 예측하는 것으로 나타났으나, GFRP Plate 보강재의 손상을 동반하는 고정법의 사용으로 인하여 설계가정의 조건을 만족하는 파괴가 일어나지 않는 것으로 분석하였다.

부분기질절제술과 발톱주위전진피판을 이용한 재발성 내증식발톱의 교정 (Correction of Recurrent Ingrowing Toenail Using Partial Matricectomy and Paronychial Advancement Flap)

  • Ingrowing toenail has been treated conventionally by various surgical treatment modlities. However, none of these procedures are perfect to achieve esthetic results with low cost, recurrence, and complication rates. Although mild cases can be treated conservatively, in severe recurrent cases, surgical treatment is preferred. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of using partial matricectomy and paronychial advancement flap for correction of recurrent ingrowing toenail. Eight patients suffering from recurrent ingrowing toenail were operated using partial matricectomy and paronychial advancement flap in our department from August 2004 to August 2005. The number of recurrent episodes ranged from 2 to 5. With digital nerve block, the excision area was marked on nailplate and inflammed lateral nail fold. The horizontally designed paronychial flap considering defect size was effective for wide exposure of the neighboring germinal matrix, which is later to be completely excised or cauterized because remnant germinal matrix made postoperative spicule formation. The nailplate on the affected side was removed about 3-5 mm width longitudinally, being cautious not to damage the proximal dorsal nail fold. The same width of the sterile matrix including germinal matrix was excised longitudinally with inflammed granulation tissue and partial lateral nail fold on the affected side. The subcutaneously elevated paronychial flap was advanced to cover the defect and was anatomically sutured with 5-0 nylon sutures. We evaluated our procedure's effectiveness by examining some factors such as cosmetic results, recurrence, spicule formation, postoperative pain and duration of return to normal activities. In eight patients, no complication was observed such as recurrence, severe pain and spicule formation except for 1 case of infection. Postoperative discomfort was minimal. Average duration of return to normal activities was 12 days. Cosmetically the results were acceptable in all patients. The partial matricectomy and paronychial advancement flap for correction of recurrent ingrowing toenail were found to be technically simple, efficient procedure with a relative low recurrence rate and better cosmetic results.

  • ESCP Project showed an urban excavation case and introduced design method for case of Soil-Structure behavior in urban excavation. In this case, a retaining structures design to analysis the behavior of retaining wall and adjacent structures in urban excavations was applied by using a Elasto-plastic beam and limit Equilibrium analysis and soil-structure interaction analysis. Reliable design of earth retaining structures and the ground adjacent to braced wall in urban excavation are often difficult due to many variable factors. The ground settlement and the damage of adjacent structures in urban excavation has been an imprtant issue. Therefore, the stability of the adjacent structures must be secured with the excavation support and research on the protection of adjacent structure is necessary.
