  • The $Ag/TiO_{2-x}N_x$ nanoparticles were synthesized by photochemical deposition in a $TiO_{2-X}N_X$ suspension system. The prepared products were characterized by means of XRD, Uv-vis and photoluminescence spectra (PL). Its photocatalytic activity was investigated by the decomposition of methylene blue (MB) solution under illumination of visible and ultraviolet light, respectively. Compared to $TiO_{2-x}N_x$, the photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared $Ag/TiO_{2-x}N_x$ is obviously enhanced due to the decreasing recombination of a photoexcitated electron-hole pairs. The Mechanism in which photocatalytic activity is enhanced has been discussed in detail.

  • In previous research, results on efficiency versus size and type of Ag particles showed similarity of detection efficiency comparing the particles of flake and spherical type with the gray particle on the market and in the case of nAg (rod, $0.9\;{\mu}m$) particle, relatively good results was given in the various evaluation methods for detection efficiency of latent fingerprint. However, oxidation was occurred when nAg particles laying on nature condition for a month and due to water absorption, detection efficiency was decreased. Therefore, with need to prevent oxidation and water absorption, more research is necessary. In this research, surface modification on nAg particles using silicon oil was conducted in various methods for complementing weakness of oxidation and water absorption. Then detection efficiency of nAg particles and surface modified nAg particles was evaluated by the number of feature points on the surface of non-porous materials (glass, plastic etc.) and degree of particle adhesion with ridges and contrast of detected fingerprint. Improvement of preventing oxidation and water absorbtion was given by surface modification using silicon oil (DC200, 0.5%) on the surface of non-porous materials.

  • A low-cost, green and reproducible citric acid assisted synthesis of nanocrystalline $Al_{0.5}Ag_{0.5}TiO_3$ (n-AAT) powder is reported. X-ray, FTIR, energy dispersive X-ray, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analyses are performed to ascertain the formation of n-AAT. X-ray diffraction data analysis indicated the formation of monoclinic structure. Spherical shaped particles having the sizes of 3-15 nm are found. The mechanism of nano-transformation for the soft-chemical synthesis of n-AAT has been explained using simple organic chemistry rules and nucleation and growth theory. Dielectric study revealed that AAT ceramic might be a suitable candidate for capacitor applications.

  • Joining of AIN ceramics to W and Cu by active-metal brazing method was tried with use of (Ag-Cu)-Ti alloy as insert-metal. Joints were produced under various conditions of temperature, holding time and Ti-content in (Ag-Cu) alloy Reaction and microstructural development in bonded interface were investigated through observation and analysis by SEM/EDS, EPMA and XRD. Joint strengths were measured by shear test. Bonded interface consists of two layers: an insert-metal layer of eutectic Ag- and Cu-rich phases and a reaction layer of TiN. Thickness of reaction layer increases with bonding temperature, holding time and Ti-content of insert-metal. It was confirmed that the growth of reaction layer is a diffusion-controlled process. Activation energy for this process was 260 KJ/mol which is lower than that for N diffusion in TiN. Maximum shear strength of 108 MPa and 72 MPa were obtained for AIN/W and AIN/Cu joints, respectively. Relationship between processing variables, joint strength and thickness of reaction layer was also explained.

  • Superconduction materials possess electrical/electronic and magnetic properties. Because superconduction materials is a ceramic powder, that can not be produced singlehandedly. So Ag sheathed Bi-2223 wire was produced by drawing process using powder-in-tube(PIT) method This superconductor has many difficulties to produce. The main difficulty is that the mechanical properties of the ceramic powder are very different from those of the Ag sheath. Actually, the fabrication of Ag sheathed Bi-2223 superconductor by PIT tends to lead to non-uniformity in the core thickness during drawing process. That is so called “Sausaging”. This study analyzed a sausaging using the finite-element method. Also, Effects of drawing process parameters on a sausaging has been carried out using finite element method. Finally, A way to prevent a sausaging has been discussed.

  • The well-established Universal Powder Press UPP, designed by the Swiss press manufacturer Osterwalder AG in Lyss, went through a major improvement process. The result is a high efficient production machine with state-of-the-art technology. It will be shown the technical design, some process engineering as well as the influence of PRP - =Part-Related-Programming, first published in 1994 - on the set-up time. This development has enabled Osterwalder to round off their range of presses, the mechanical-hydraulic KPP as well as the hydraulic CA-NC II and UPP, to an attractive offer ranging from 120 kN up to 10'000 kN.

  • Nanorod graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was synthesized by reacting melamine (C3H6N6) with trithiocyanuric acid (C3H3N3S3) in distilled water for 10 h at room temperature. The resulting mixture was calcined at 550℃ for 2 h in an electric furnace under an air atmosphere. Nanorod g-C3N4/Ag3PO4 composites were prepared by adding nanorod graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) powder, silver nitrate (AgNO3), ammonia (NH3·H2O, 25.0-30.0%), and sodium hydrogen phosphate (Na3HPO4) to distilled water. The samples were characterized via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of the nanorod g-C3N4/Ag3PO4 composites were demonstrated via the degradation of organic dyes, such as methylene blue and methyl orange, under blue light-emitting diode irradiation and evaluated using UV-vis spectrophotometry.

  • Ag-Pd alloy nanoparticles were prepared by a chemical reduction method using hydrazine $(N_2H_4)$ as a reductant in $AgNO_3\;and\;Pd(NO_3)_2$ aqueous solutions. Characterization of these particles by X-ray powder diffraction revealed a bimetallic and crystalline silver-palladium alloy. The average size of the particles was influenced not by the reductant $(N_2H_4)$ concentration, but the concentration of the starting materials $(AgNO_3\;and\;Pd(NO_3)_2)$.

  • Bend tests were performed at temperatures between 77 and 473K for W-19vol%Cu, W-22vol%Ag and W-19vol%(BAg-8) composites. Yield and maximum strengths and ductility of the composite were discussed in terms of microstructure and fractography. Results are summarized as follows. (1) Almost no difference was recognized in yield strength between the composites. In contrast, a large difference was recognized in maximum strength and ductility between the composites. (2) Inferior mechanical properties of W-Ag composite to W-Cu composite are attributed to heterogeneous distribution of Ag-phases, whilst inferior mechanical properties of W-(BAg-8) composite to W-Cu composite are attributed to large pores at grain boundaries.

  • In the present study, potassium and caesium doped Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts were synthesized by simple wet impregnation method and evaluated for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx using methane. TEM analysis and diffraction patterns demonstrated the finely dispersed Ag particles. BET surface measurements reveal that the prepared materials have moderate to high surface area and the metal amount found from ICP analysis was well matching with the theoretical loadings. The synthesized K-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ and Cs-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts exhibited a promotional effect on deNOx activity in the presence of $SO_2$ and $H_2O$. The long-term isothermal studies at $550^{\circ}C$ under oxygen rich condition showed the superior catalytic properties of the both alkali promoted samples. The crucial catalytic properties of materials are attributed to NO adsorption properties detected by the NO TPD.
