Description of two new species from South Korea and Russian Far East with a key to the Palearctic species of the genus Brachyserphus Helle´n (Hymenoptera, Proctotrupidae)

  • A taxonomic study of the Palearctic species of the genus Brachyserphus is presented. Two species are newly described as B. acuticaudatus sp. n. and B. semipunctatus sp. n. from South Korea and the Russian Far East. B. striatopropodeatus (Kolyada 1997 syn. n.) is synonymized under B. lucens (Provancher 1883) and a key to the Palearctic species is provided.

Production of Catechol from Benzene by a Mutant of Pseudomonas sp. (Pseudomonas sp. HW-103 변이주에 의한 Benzene으로부터 Catechol 생산)

  • For the production of catechol from benzene, bacteria capable of assimilating benzene as a sole carbon and energy source were isolated from soils. Among them, newly isolated strain, KY-114 hay-ing the best ability of producing catechol from benzene was selected and a mutant Pseudomonas sp. HW-103 was developed from Pseudomonas sp. KY-114 by using mutagenesis induced by N-methyl - N'- nitro - N -nitrobo guanidine. The catechol reduction from benzone by Pseudomonas sp. HW-103 was investigated under various conditions. The highest catechol concentration (0.61 g/$\ell$) was obtained in the growth medium (pH 6.5) containing 1% sodium citrate, 0.75% (NH$_4$)$_2$SO$_4$, 0.15% benzene and other minerals at 3$0^{\circ}C$ after incubating of 15hrs. In the catechol production through the reaction with resting rolls, 2.5 g/1 of catechol was produced from 4 g/$\ell$ of benzene after incubation of 10 hrs under the optium conditions, which correponds to 45% of theoretical catechol yield.

Production of Biosurfactant by Pseudomonas sp. SW1 for Microbial Remediation of Oil Pollution (유류오염방제를 위한 Pseudomonas sp. SW1로부터 생물계면활성제의 생산)

  • Microorganisms capable of producing biosurfactant were isolated from oil-contaminated soils and seawater. Among them, the selected strain SW1 was identified as Pseudomonas sp. by taxonomical characteristic tests, and so tentatively named Pseudomonas sp. SWI. The optimal temperature and initial pH for biosurfactant production were TEX>30^{\circ}C.$ and 7.0, respectively. The optimal medium composilion for the production of biosurfactant by Pseudomonas sp. SW1 were hexadecane of 2.0%, yeast extract of 0.04%, $K_{2}HPO_4$ of 0.02%, $KH_2PO_4$ of 0.03% and $MgSO_4$ center dot $7H_2O$ of 0.04%, respectively. Under the above conditions, minimum wrface tension was 32 mN/m after incubation of 2 days. The biosurfactant was produced during initial stationary phase in the optimal medium. Pseudotnonas sp. SWl utilized various hydrocarbons such as Bunker oils, n-alkanes and branched alkanes as a sole carbon source.

  • Ptychebcthrium nayarensis n. sp. has been described from two hill-stream fishes, Barilius bola (Ham.) and Schizotheras rirhardsonii (Gray) at 325~750 mASL. The new species has beeen compared with close species. Taxometric evaluation of the new species has been done on available data.
