  • The main objective of this study is evaluating experimentally roughness coefficients of the Korean riparian vegetations based on the n-VR analysis to suggest the practical guideline for Manning's roughness coefficients for the channel design. Hydraulic experiments were conducted for Phragmites japonica Steud., Miscanthus sacchariflorus (Maxim.) Benth., and Phragmites communis Trin. under both submerged and un-submerged conditions, and the n-VR relationships are developed for each grass. Three vegetations tested in this study can be considered as same group showing similar roughness characteristics, though these grasses are strongly affected by vegetation stiffness. Vegetation roughness are also affected by the growth state of plants according to experimental results of Phragmites communis Trin.

  • A volume density of roughness correction blocks in a channel is defined and the corresponding roughness coefficient(n) is estimated by analyzing the diverse hydraulic characteristics of VR, the product of the average velocity and the hydraulic radius, block Reynolds number ($Re^*$), drag coefficient ($\acute{C}_D$), and the roughness coefficient ($n_b$) of bottom shear. The increase of VR and block Reynolds number causes the exponential decrease of roughness coefficient converged to a constant value as expected. The drag coefficient also exponentially decreases as block Reynolds number increases as well. The drag force is governed by the block shape defined by volume density in high block Reynolds number of turbulent flow region. For more accurate estimation of roughness coefficient the use of the correlation equation of it is required by block Reynolds number and volume density. The regression equations for n-VR, $\acute{C}_D-Re^*$, and $n_b-\acute{C}_D$ are presented. The regression equations of roughness coefficient are also presented by block Reynolds number and volume density. The developed equation of roughness coefficient by block Reynolds number and volume density has practical use by confirming the coincidence between the experimental results and the results of HEC-RAS using the developed equation.

  • As part of a fundamental characterization for subsurface layers in Korea, the weathering degree and shear wave velocity ($V_S$) were evaluated from the X-ray fluorescence analyses and the site investigations containing boring and in-situ seismic tests, respectively, for decomposed granite layer in Hongsung. The subsurface layers at Hongsung were composed of 10 to 40 m thickness of weathered layer in most sites. According to the results of weathering degree analyses in Hongsung, it was examined that three chemical weathering indexes such as MWPI, VR and WIP generally increased with decreasing depth. From the in-situ seismic tests, the $V_S$ was determined as the range between 200 and 500 m/s in weathered layer. Based on the $V_S$ and N value at borehole seismic testing sites, N-$V_S$ correlations were established for weathered layer. Furthermore, the relationships of three representative weathering indexes with the $V_S$ and N value indicated that the MWPI, WIP and 100/VR increased linearly as increasing $V_S$ and exponentially as increasing N value.

  • Virtual reality (VR) provides a virtual experiment (VE) context consisting of information presented to the senses of the user. The user perceiver and interprets the VE context, and then naturally recognizes a level of realism in the VE. Presence is often thought of as the sense of 'being there' in the n. Presence includes overall feelings about the information conveyed from a virtual avatar to the user. Therefore, there must be brain mechanisms for integrating sensory information about presence.'Feeling of presence' is related with the user's cognition and perception about information on communication through medium. Thus 'feeling of presence' may characterize perceptual mechanisms in the brain. We studied these mechanisms by presenting a VR that consisted of an avatar telling a story about a social conversation. We performed covariance analysis on subjective brain activity (fMRI) during the story presentation with a presence score. The data analysis revealed that activity in several brain areas was correlated with the presence store. A positive correlation was shown in the right lingual gyrus, right cuneus, left lingual gyrus, right fusiform gyrus, left inferior temporal gyrus, anterior cingulate cortex and right posterior cingulate cortex of the brain. This study showed the brain mechanism to be related the feeling of presence and brain activities in our subjects, using VR to communicate information.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess whether mechanical sensory score by Toyo Midometer can be substituted by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) method in whole-grain milled rice samples. Toyo values of collected commercial brand rice (n=127) had comparatively wide ranges from 62.9 to 84.2 (Mean=70.5; S.D.=4.0). Calibration equation was developed using 73 samples. Standard error of calibration (SEC) for sensory score equation and $R^2$ were 0.95, and 0.94, respectively, however, percentage of variation in the reference method values (1-VR) which give a true indication of equation performance was slightly lower (1-VR=0.81) than calibration equation. It was demonstrated that, even though NIRS has potential as a rapid tools to predict rice sensory score, the prediction of sensory score in rice by NIRS needs to be further investigation on a large number of sample with different varieties and growing locations.

  • This study to investigated the therapeutic effect of robot-assisted rehabilitation (Lokomat) with virtual reality (VR) on Pusher syndrome (PS) after stroke. A total of 10 patients presented with PS after stroke were recruited. The participants were divided into two groups: Lokomat (n=5) and control groups (n=5). Lokomat and conventional physical therapy (CPT) were performed together in the experimental group, and the patients in the control group were treated with CPT only twice a day. One session of intervention was carried out for 30 minutes five times per week for 4 weeks. Scale for contraversive pushing (SCP), Berg balance scale (BBS), falling index (FI), and Timed up and go test (TUG) were measured before and after the intervention. The Lokomat group produced significantly better outcomes in SCP (p=0.046), BBS (p=0.046), FI (p=0.038), and TUG (p=0.038) compared with the control group after 4 weeks of intervention. In addition, there were significant correlations between SCP and BBS (p=0.024), FI (p=0.039), and TUG (p=0.030). In conclusion, Lokomat with VR more effectively aided recovery from PS after stroke, and restoration of PS symptoms was related with improvement of balance and gait function.

  • A genetic study on the panicle characters in Oryza sativa was carried out by means of a 5 x 5 diallel cross. The five parental varieties were Raekyung, Yeongnamjosaeng, Nongbaek, Yushin and Honenwase. All characters were correlated positively each other, except number of kernels per primary branch. The number of secondary branches per primary branch.was the most effective factor in determining the number of kernels per panicle, the next being the number of primary branches per panicle. Regression analyses of the data of Vr/Wr indicated the presence of non-allelic gene interactions for all characters. Overdominant characters were the number of kernels per panicle, the number of primary branches per panicle, the number of secondary branches per primary branch, the number of kernels per primary branch and sum of kernels on all the tertiary branches per panicle, suggesting that the characters were more influenced by dominant effect than additive effect. However, the number of kernels per secondary branch was partially dominant where the genetic variation was due more to additive effect than to dominance effect. But after omitting the parent which had non-allelic interaction gene, the characters; the number of kernels per panicle, the number of secondary branches per primary branch, and the number of kernels per secondary branch, were partially dominant. Narrow sense heritabilities(h$^2$ N) in number of kernels per panicle and number of secondary branches were high and moderate, respectively, but those of the rest were lower. Mean squares of GCA and SCA of all characters, except SCA of the number of kernels per secondary branch, were highly significant. Effects of GCA were larger than SCA effects in all characters. Raekyung, Yushin and Nongbaek had highly positive GCA, and the best positive SCA was observed in crosses of Nongbaek x Tongillines (Raekyung, Yushin, and Yeongnamjosaeng) in all characters.

  • From January, 1994 to January. 1996, mitral valve replacement was performed in 27 patients. Among these, 17 patients underwent mitral valve replacement(MVR) with preservation of the annulo-papillary continuity(PAPCMVR) (-Group I), and 10 patients underwent conventional methods of excision of all the chordae(Group II). The operative technique for PAPCM VR consists of the division of the anterior leaflet into anterior and posterior segments, shifting and reattachment of the divided segments to the mitral ring of the respective commissural areas. This retrospective study has been designed to evalute the postoperative left ventricular function in the two groups. In the group 1, LVEF(Left Vnetricular Ejection Fraction : %) was 52 $\pm$ 3 preoperatively And 50$\pm$3 postoperatively, LVESI Vent icular End Systolic Volume Index/mL/m2) wIns 59 :6 and 51 $\pm$ 7, LVEDI Ventricular End Diastolic Volume Index/mL/m2) was 124$\pm$ 11 and 91 :8. In the group II, LVEF was 56$\pm$1 and 47:), LVESVI 62$\pm$12 and 61$\pm$15, LVEDVI 133$\pm$27 and 104$\pm$17. : the variation of the LVEF in these two group was statistically different(p(0.05). A comparison of left ventricular function data between Group I(n: 17) and Group II(n: 10) revealed better results in echocardiographic LVEF(p<0.05), LVEDVI(p<0.01) in the former group. The mean functional class(UYHA) was 2.6 preoperative and improved to 1.0 postoperatively In group 1, and 2.8 and to 1.0 in group II. We conclude that maintenance of continuity between the mitral annulus and papillary muscles is expected to have a beneficial effect on postoperative left ventricular performance.

  • The advent of 5G mobile communications, which is expected in 2020, will provide many services such as Internet of Things (IoT) and vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic (V2X) communication. There are many requirements to realizing these services: reduced latency, high data rate and reliability, and real-time service. In particular, a high level of reliability and delay sensitivity with an increased data rate are very important for M2M, IoT, and Factory 4.0. Around the world, 5G standardization organizations have considered these services and grouped them to finally derive the technical requirements and service scenarios. The first scenario is broadcast services that use a high data rate for multiple cases of sporting events or emergencies. The second scenario is as support for e-Health, car reliability, etc.; the third scenario is related to VR games with delay sensitivity and real-time techniques. Recently, these groups have been forming agreements on the requirements for such scenarios and the target level. Various techniques are being studied to satisfy such requirements and are being discussed in the context of software-defined networking (SDN) as the next-generation network architecture. SDN is being used to standardize ONF and basically refers to a structure that separates signals for the control plane from the packets for the data plane. One of the best examples for low latency and high reliability is an intelligent traffic system (ITS) using V2X. Because a car passes a small cell of the 5G network very rapidly, the messages to be delivered in the event of an emergency have to be transported in a very short time. This is a typical example requiring high delay sensitivity. 5G has to support a high reliability and delay sensitivity requirements for V2X in the field of traffic control. For these reasons, V2X is a major application of critical delay. V2X (vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic) represents all types of communication methods applicable to road and vehicles. It refers to a connected or networked vehicle. V2X can be divided into three kinds of communications. First is the communication between a vehicle and infrastructure (vehicle-to-infrastructure; V2I). Second is the communication between a vehicle and another vehicle (vehicle-to-vehicle; V2V). Third is the communication between a vehicle and mobile equipment (vehicle-to-nomadic devices; V2N). This will be added in the future in various fields. Because the SDN structure is under consideration as the next-generation network architecture, the SDN architecture is significant. However, the centralized architecture of SDN can be considered as an unfavorable structure for delay-sensitive services because a centralized architecture is needed to communicate with many nodes and provide processing power. Therefore, in the case of emergency V2X communications, delay-related control functions require a tree supporting structure. For such a scenario, the architecture of the network processing the vehicle information is a major variable affecting delay. Because it is difficult to meet the desired level of delay sensitivity with a typical fully centralized SDN structure, research on the optimal size of an SDN for processing information is needed. This study examined the SDN architecture considering the V2X emergency delay requirements of a 5G network in the worst-case scenario and performed a system-level simulation on the speed of the car, radius, and cell tier to derive a range of cells for information transfer in SDN network. In the simulation, because 5G provides a sufficiently high data rate, the information for neighboring vehicle support to the car was assumed to be without errors. Furthermore, the 5G small cell was assumed to have a cell radius of 50-100 m, and the maximum speed of the vehicle was considered to be 30-200 km/h in order to examine the network architecture to minimize the delay.
