Dyeing Properties of PTT Fiber (2) - Effect of Solvent Treatment on Dyeing and Physical Properties of PTT Fiber - (PTT 섬유의 염색성 (2) - 용제 처리한 PTT 섬유의 염색성 및 물성 -)

  • Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) fiber was pretreated with organic solvent/water solution of various compositions. The organic solvents used in this experiment were benzyl alcohol, n-buthanol, and N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF). Density of the fibers were investigated as a measure of crystallite region. The dye uptake increased in the order of pretreatment with hot water < untreated < 5% benzyl alcohol < 100% benzyl alcohol < 90% benzyl alcohol; hot water < untreated $\risingdotseq$ 5% butanol < 100% beutanol < 90% butanol; hot water $\risingdotseq$ 5% DMF < untreated < 90% DMF < 100% DMF. The dye uptake increases with increase of crystallinity. It seems likely that the recrystallization process during the pretreatment with organic solvent/water solutions leads to an increase in the microvoid and then a large increase in the dye uptake. Also the dyeing rate increased and the dyeing transition temperature decreased with the pretreatments. The results obtained are corresponds with the plasticization of the fiber structure formed during the pretreatrnent.

  • The anti-oxidant activities of the various fractions from the herbs of Artemisia apiacea were investigated. The n- hexane and n-butanol fractions were found to cause significant free radical scavenging effects on DPPH. their scavenging potencies as indicated in $IC_{50}$ values. being 230.1 and 183.7 g/ml. respectively. The n-butanol fraction exhibited a significant decrease in serum transaminase activities elevated by hepatic damage induced by $CCl_{4}$-intoxication in rats. All fractions tested exhibited a lipid peroxidation causing a significant decrease in MDA production in TBA-reactant assay. (omitted)

Observation on the Ignition Delay Time of Cool and Thermal Flame of n-heptane/alcohol Blended Fuel at Low Temperature Combustion Regime (저온연소조건에서 n-heptane/alcohol 혼합연료의 냉염과 열염에 대한 착화지연 관찰)

  • The ignition delay time is an important factor to understand the combustion characteristics of internal combustion engine. In this study, ignition delay times of cool and thermal flame were observed separately in homogeneous charge compression ignition(HCCI) engine. This study presents numerical investigation of ignition delay time of n-heptane and alcohol(ethanol and n-butanol) binary fuel. The $O_2$ concentration in the mixture was set 9-10% to simulate high exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) rate condition. The numerical study on the ignition delay time was performed using CHEMKIN codes with various blending ratios and EGR rates. The results revealed that the ignition delay time increased with increasing the alcohol fraction in the mixture due to a decrease of oxidation of n-heptane at the low temperature. From the numerical analysis, ethanol needed more radical and higher temperature than n-butanol for oxidation. In addition, thermal ignition delay time is sharply increasing with decreasing $O_2$ fraction, but cool flame ignition delay time changes negligibly for both binary fuels. Also, in high temperature regime, the ignition delay time showed similar tendency with both blends regardless of blending ratio and EGR rate.

  • Liquid phase hydrogenation come into use for the removal process of unsaturated hydrocarbon such as croton aldehyde. The croton aldehyde is generated in a very small amount as by-product in the ethanol production, and it is converted into n-butanol through hydrogenation. Liquid phase hydrogenation is low energy consumption process as compared with gas phase hydrogenation. The nickel catalyst is selected with respect to the economic aspect such as durability and cost. The analysis of the conversion were performed by method of the PMT(permangante time) test. The PMT was sharply decreased as the initial concentrations of croton aldehyde in the ethanol solution were increased. The hydrogenation of croton aldehyde to n-butanol was carried out in sequence after the saturation of the carbon-carbon double bond. The formation of both butyraldehyde and n-butanol followed zero order kinetics. Within expermental conditions the PMT gets longer as reaction temperature goes higer and as LHSV becomes slower, while the reaction pressure has almost no relation with PMT.

Antioxidative and Antimicrobial Activities of Aruncus dioicus var. kamtschaticus Hara Extracts (눈개승마(Aruncus dioicus var. kamtschaticus Hara) 용매 추출물의 항산화 및 항균활성)

  • The solvent extracts of Aruncus dioicus var. kamtschaticus Hara, which were extracted by using several solvents with different polarities, were performed to investigate the antioxidant activities, whitening effect and antimicrobial activity. The content of total polyphenol of fractions from Aruncus dioicus var. kamtschaticus Hara extract showed the highest value ($335.88{\pm}2.26$ mg/g GAE) on ethyl acetate fraction. The ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions were 0.06 mg/mL and 0.25 mg/mL as $IC_{50}$ values on DPPH radical scavenging, and $99.16{\pm}0.09%$ and $89.29{\pm}0.64%$ on ABTS radical scavenging activity, respectively. Also, reducing power and FRAP value were significantly higher on ethyl acetate fraction. The SOD like activity showed $80.76{\pm}0.61%$ on ethyl acetate and $72.34{\pm}0.79%$ on n-butanol. Tyrosinase inhibition activities (at 5 mg/mL) were $59.08{\pm}0.98%$ on ethyl acetate fraction. The chloroform fraction showed the strongest antimicrobial activities against B. cereus (14 mm), B. subtilis (12.5 mm), S. aureus (10.8 mm), E. coli (20.7 mm) at 0.1 mg/disc and the inhibition zone diameter of ethyl acetate fraction was 17.2 mm against E. coli at 0.5 mg/disc. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of chloroform fraction against B. cereus and E. coli were 50 and $25{\mu}g$/mL, respectively. From these results, it is suggested that ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions of Aruncus dioicus var. kamtschaticus Hara could be used as functional material for food additive ingredient and chloroform fraction could be suitable for the development of a food preservative.

  • 이 연구는 과량의 유분(dodecane)으로 오염된 토양을 효율적으로 정화시키기 위한 화학적 토양세정(soil flushing)에서 알코올 성분에 의한 유동성을 고찰한 것이다. 탄소수가 다른 알코올 (methanol, ethanol, butanol)과 Tween-80 계면활성제를 세정용액으로 사용하여 혼합비, 조용매 종류 및 체류시간에 따른 세정결과를 도시하였다. 조용매 사용시 세척효율은 최대 94%(Butanol/Tween-80(w/w)=0.1) 이었다. 체류시간의 연장은 재흡착되는 admicelle의 증가로 말미암아 세정효율을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.

  • The anti-allergy activity of Cinnamomum cassia cortex extract and its fractions were investigated in mice. The extract exhibited potent anaphylactic shock and Arthus reaction. Among the fractions obtained in the successive fractionation with n-hexane, butanol and acetone, the butanol insoluble portion was shown to have the activities.

  • To isolate biologically active compounds which exhibit tyrosinase inhibition activity and ultimately express skin whitening effect, 14 oriental herbal drugs were screened in ter ms of tyrosinase inhibition. For this purpose, in vitro enzyme assay system for tyrosinase, so called Pomerantz method with some modifications has been established. Crude methanolic extracts from 14 herbal drugs were made and examined for their inhibitory activity against tyrosinase. Those extracts from Cnidii Rhizoma, Arecae Semen, Caryophylli Flos, and Ephedrae Herba showed strong inhibitory activities on mushroom tyrosinase. Therefore, crude methanolic extracts from those 4 herbal drugs were further fractionated using ether, butanol and water. respectively. The ether and n-butanol extracts from Arecae Semen and the n-butanol and water extracts from Caryophylli Flos, respectively, showed relatively strong tyrosinase inhibitory activity compared to arbutin.
