Optimal atomic configurations in a nanoparticle were predicted by genetic algorithm. A truncated octahedron with a fixed composition of 1 : 1 was investigated as a model system. A Python code for genetic algorithm linked with a molecular dynamics method was developed. Various operators were implemented to accelerate the optimization of atomic configuration for a given composition and a given morphology of a nanoparticle. The combination of random mix as a crossover operator and total_inversion as a mutation operator showed the most stable structure within the shortest calculation time. Pt-Ag core-shell structure was predicted as the most stable structure for a nanoparticle of approximately 4 nm in diameter. The calculation results in this study led to successful prediction of the atomic configuration of nanoparticle, the size of which is comparable to that of practical nanoparticls for the application to the nanocatalyst.

This paper proposes a path planning algorithm to reduce the inspection time of AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) machines for SMT (Surface Mount Technology) in-line system. Since the field-of-view of the camera attached at the machine is much less than the entire inspection region of board, the inspection region should be clustered to many groups. The image acquisition time depends on the number of groups, and camera moving time depends on the sequence of visiting the groups. The acquired image is processed while the camera moves to the next position, but it may be delayed if the group includes many components to be inspected. The inspection delay has influence on the overall job time of the machine. In this paper, we newly considers the inspection delay time for path planning of the inspection machine. The unified approach using genetic algorithm is applied to generates the groups and visiting sequence simultaneously. The chromosome, crossover operator, and mutation operator is proposed to develop the genetic algorithm. The experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.

Unlike using the sequence-based representation for a chromosome in previous genetic algorithms for Bayesian structure learning, we proposed a matrix representation-based genetic algorithm. Since a good chromosome representation helps us to develop efficient genetic operators that maintain a functional link between parents and their offspring, we represent a chromosome as a matrix that is a general and intuitive data structure for a directed acyclic graph(DAG), Bayesian network structure. This matrix-based genetic algorithm enables us to develop genetic operators more efficient for structuring Bayesian network: a probability matrix and a transpose-based mutation operator to inherit a structure with the correct edge direction and enhance the diversity of the offspring. To show the outstanding performance of the proposed method, we analyzed the performance between two well-known genetic algorithms and the proposed method using two Bayesian network scoring measures.

In order to guide users to select the most optimal access network in heterogeneous wireless networks, a network selection algorithm is proposed which is designed based on multi-objective discrete particle swarm optimization (Multi-Objective Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization, MODPSO). The proposed algorithm keeps fast convergence speed and strong adaptability features of the particle swarm optimization. In addition, it updates an elite set to achieve multi-objective decision-making. Meanwhile, a mutation operator is adopted to make the algorithm converge to the global optimal. Simulation results show that compared to the single-objective algorithm, the proposed algorithm can obtain the optimal combination performance and take into account both the network state and the user preferences.

A hybrid optimization method for the identification of state-space models is presented in this study. Hybridization is succeeded by combining the advantages of deterministic and stochastic algorithms in a superior scheme that promises faster convergence rate and reliability in the search for the global optimum. The proposed hybrid algorithm is developed by replacing the original stochastic mutation operator of Evolution Strategies (ES) by the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) quasi-Newton algorithm. This substitution results in a scheme where the entire population cloud is involved in the search for the global optimum, while single individuals are involved in the local search, undertaken by the LM method. The novel hybrid identification framework is assessed through the Monte Carlo analysis of a simulated system and an experimental case study on a shear frame structure. Comparisons to subspace identification, as well as to conventional, self-adaptive ES provide significant indication of superior performance.
Particle filter is a kind of conditional density propagation model. Its similar characteristics to both selection and mutation operator of evolutionary strategy (ES) due to its Bayesian inference rule structure, shows better performance than any other tracking algorithms. When a new object is entering the region of interest, particle filter sets which have been swarming around the existing objects have to move and track the new one instantaneously. Moreover, there is another problem that it could not track multiple objects well if they were moving away from each other after having been overlapped. To resolve reinitialization problem, we use competitive-AVQ algorithm of neural network. And we regard interfarme difference (IFD) of background images as potential field and give priority to the particles according to this IFD to track multiple objects independently. In this paper, we showed that the possibility of real-time object tracking as intelligent interfaces by simulating the deformable contour particle filters.

Recently, dynamic recurrent neural networks(DRNN) for identification of nonlinear dynamic systems have been researched extensively. In general, dynamic backpropagation was used to adjust the weights of neural networks. But, this method requires many complex calculations and has the possibility of falling into a local minimum. So, we propose a new approach to identify nonlinear dynamic systems using DRNN. In order to adjust the weights of neurons, we use evolution strategies, which is a method used to solve an optimal problem having many local minimums. DRNN trained by evolution strategies with mutation as the main operator can act as a plant emulator. And the fitness function of evolution strategies is based on the difference of the plant's outputs and DRNN's outputs. Thus, this new approach at identifying nonlinear dynamic system, when applied to the simulation of a two-link robot manipulator, demonstrates the performance and efficiency of this proposed approach.

In this paper a new method of handling linear constraints for the genetic algorithm is suggested. The method is designed to maintain the feasibility of offsprings during the evolution process of the genetic algorithm. In the genetic algorithm, the chromosomes are coded as the vectors in the real vector space constrained by the linear constraints. A method of handling the linear constraints already exists in which all the constraints of equalities are eliminated so that only the constraints of inequalities are considered in the process of the genetic algorithm. In this paper a new method is presented in which all the constraints of inequalities are eliminated so that only the constraints of equalities are considered. Several genetic operators such as arithmetic crossover, simplex crossover, simple crossover and random vector mutation are designed so that the resulting offspring vectors maintain the feasibility subject to the linear constraints in the framework of the new handling method.
Traditional genetic algorithms, though robust, are generally not the most successful optimization algorithm on any particular domain. Hybridizing a genetic algorithm with other algorithms can produce better performance than both the genetic algorithm and the other algorithms. In this paper, we use random process and simulated annealing instead of mutation operator in order to get well tuned fuzzy rules. The key of this approach is to adjust both the width and the center of membership functions so that the tuned rule-based fuzzy controller can generate the desired performance. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by computer simulation.

This paper presents an efficient algorithm for determining the location, size and number of capacitors in unbalanced radial distribution system. The objective function formulated consists of two terms: cost for energy loss and cost related to capacitor purchase and capacitor installation. The cost function associated with capacitor placement is considered as step function due to banks of standard discrete capacities. Genetic algorithms(GA) are used to obtain the population is derived. The strings in each population consist of the bus number index and size of capacitors to be installed. In order to determine the number of capacitor placement, the length mutation operator is used. Its efficiency is proved through the application in unbalanced radial distribution systems made of 10 buses with 9 distribution lines and 25 buses with 24 distribution lines.
