In order to evaluate the influences of Myo-monitoring on masticatory muscles, Myo-monitoring on 31 normal persons and 30 persons with one more temporomandibular dysfunction symptoms during 45 minutes or above. The author observed velocities of mandibular opening and closing movement, variabilities of mandibular rest position and EMG activities of temporal and masseter muscles. The obtained results were as follows : 1. There were no significant differences on velocities of mandibular opening and closing movement between before and after Myo-monitoring. 2. There were significant differences on vertical dimension and total dimension form mandibular rest position to centric occlusion between before and after Myo-monitoring but no significant differences on anteroposterior and lateral dimension. 3. Activities of temporal and masseter muscles were decreased in Myo-Monitoring. 4. There were disappeared significant differences on EMG activity values between normal and symptom groups after myo-monitoring.
This study was carried out to investigate the origin, insertion, direction of muscle fibers and structure of the ear muscles of the Korean native goat. The description was based on the dissection of fifteen the Korean native goats with embalming fluid. The results were as follows: 1. The ear muscles of the Korean native goat were composed of the M. zygomaticoauricularis, M. scutuloauricularis superficialis, M. scutuloauricularis profundus, M. frontoscutularis, M. interscutularis, M. parietoauricularis, M. cervicoscutularis, M. cervicoauricularis superficialis, M. cervicoauricularis medius, M. cervicoauricularis profundus, M. auricularis profundus posterior and M. parotidoauricularis. 2. The M. frontoscutularis clearly seperated into temporal and frontal parts in 6 cases. 3. The M. scutuloauricularis profundus clearly separated into major and minor parts. 4. The M. zygomaticoauricularis blended with the M. parotidoauricularis near its insertion, but not with the M. scutuloauricularis.
For an effective acupuncture treatment, the location of muscles around Sutaeumkyongkun and Suyangmyongkyongkun were researched and they were made contracted. The conclusion is as follows; 1. The contraction of muscles around Sutaeumkyongkun gives appearance of the postures ; free movement of thumb, abduction of extension of wrist, flexion and pronation of elbow, depression and abduction of girdle of superior limb, flexion, internal rotation and horizontal flexion of shoulder joint These postures all together consequently produces the action 'holding something in arms'. 2. The contraction of muscles around Suyangmyongkyongkun gives appearance of the postures; extension of metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joint of index finger extension and abduction of thumb, extension of wrist, extension and supination of elbow, adduction, elevation and upward rotation of girdle of superior limb, extension, abduction, adduction, internal rotation, external rotation, horizontal extension of shoulder joint, flexion and opposite rotation of neck. These postures all together consequently produces the action 'raising arms'.
A study was carried out to investigate the effect of palm oil supplementation on the growth, carcass composition and fatty acid distributions of the broilers fed isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets. This study showed that palm oil supplementation increased feed consumption, weight gain and nitrogen intake. Feed conversion improved at higher fat inclusions, but not significant. Male birds consumed significantly more feed than females resulting in significant increase in energy consumption and weight gain. Increaseing fat content in the ME:P constant diet did not produce significant difference in the fat content of the chicken. Fatty acids content of the diet exert varying effects of the composition and distribution of fatty acids in muscles of the chicken. The fatty acids found in larger amount in the breast and thigh muscles were palmitic, oleic and linoleic. The fatty acids of the breast and thigh muscles were found to correspond the fatty acids of the diets. There were no differences in the fatty acids distribution patterns between the sexes.
An electrical stimulator was designed to induce locomotion for paraplegic patients caused by central nervous system injury. Optimal stimulus parameters, which can minimize muscle fatigue and can achieve effective muscle contraction were determined in slow and fast muscles in Sprague-Dawley rats. Stimulus patterns of our stimulator were designed to simulate electromyographic activity monitored during locomotion of normal subjects. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases. Portable electrical stimulator with 16 channels built in microprocessor was constructed and applied to paraplegic patients due to lumbar cord injury. The electrical stimulator restored partially gait function in paraplegic patients.
Asians tend to have prominent mandibular angle. The causes of wide lower third of the facial contour are obtuse mandibular angle and hypertrophy of masseter muscles. In cases of hypertrophy of masseter muscles, conventional treatment intends to the contraction of masseter muscle. Recently, volumetric reduction of masseter muscles using botulinum toxin type A injection and radiofrequency (RF) reduction have been introduced. The use of RF energy for masseter muscle reduction is known as a safe, simple, and effective method for aesthetic lower facial contouring. The purpose of this study is to present the effects of RF reduction applied to hypertrophy of masseter muscles, to review and to encourage RF practices in oral and maxillofacial region.
In order to study of muscle fiber proportion of masticatory muscle, 6 rabbits masticatory muscles (masseter, temporal, internal pterygoid, external pterygoid) were excised. Muscle specimens were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin fixer and sectioned $5{\mu}$ for PAS staining. With the light microscopic photograph the proportion of muscle fibers of each muscle were computed. The results were as follow; 1. Average classical red fiber proportion of rabbit masticatory muscles was 85.7% 2. Masseter muscle revealed 90.3% of classical red fiber in the rabbit masticatory muscles.
Objectives: Electroacupuncture has the effect of recovering paralytic nerves and muscles. To treat disproportional muscles of expression with electroacupuncture, it is essential that we know the correct point of paralytic muscle. Methods: We investigated 20 cases of patients with facial palsy sequelae. We measured nasolabial angles, checked grade of muscle palsy, and tested ENoG. Results: This study showed significant correlation between nasolabial angles with these muscle groups (zygomatic group I, zygomatic group II, orbicularis oris muscle). Conclusions: Disproportional facesare fixed by muscles of expression observed in facial palsy sequelae. We can treat muscular paralysis of these muscle groups with electroacupuncture for more complete recovery.
A two-dimensional static biochemical model of lower extremity in the seated posture was developed to assess muscular activities of lower extremity required for a variety of foot pedal operations. We found that the double linear optimization method that has been used for modelling articulated body segments does no predict the forces generated by biarticular muscles reasonably, so the revised double linear optimization scheme was used to consider the synergistic effects of biarticular muscles in our model, assuming that the muscle forces are distributed proportionally based on their physiological cross sectional area. The model incorporated three rigid body se- gments with six muscles to represnet lower extremity. For the model validation, three male subjects performed the experiments in which EMG activities of six lower extremity muscles were measured. Predicted muscle forces were compare with the corresponding EMG amplitudes and it showed no statistical difference. The model being developed can be used to design and assess pedal and foot-related tool design.

Objectives : Strabismus refers to the oculomotor muscles imbalance that results from improper alignment of the visual axes of the two eyes. It may be divided into paralytic and nonparalytic strabismus. Paralytic strabismus is primarily result from neurologic problem and nonparalytic strabismus is more strictly opthalmologic problem. At first we used this method(electroacupuncture at oculomotor muscles) and gained good recoveries for adult paralytic strabismus cases or Miller-Fisher syndrome, and I tried to know the effective and safety for children cases. Methods : We treated the case by using the electroacupuncture at paralytic oculomator muscles. The case was treated almost daily and every treatment was enforced 10 minutes. We use the PG-306 electra-acupuncture products(Suzki Iryoki Co. Japan) and apply the low consequence wave of I-8Hz Results : We found that the case was recovered perfectly in short term and appealed any sides effect or compliant. So I try to apply this treatment in many children cases and make the treating protocol for them.
