  • Relationship between the contents of ginsenosides in root and minerals (N,P,K,Ca,Mg) in leaf and root of and year Panax ginseng grown with solutions of various N,P,K levels was investigated by simple, multiple and partial regressions. In root K, N, and P in decreasing order showed significant negative correlation with each ginsenosides. In leaf K,N, and P in decreasing order showed significant positive, negative and both correlation with root ginsenosides, respectively. Relationship between K and root ginsenosides in the minus K plot did not follow that in other plots. The ratios of K,N, and P, in leaf to root in decreasing order showed positive correlations that were greater than in leaf or root. Mg was negatively while Ca was positively correlated in root but these were reverse in leaf and always nonisgnificant in both parts. Ginsenoside Rd, Re and $Rb_1$ were most affected by mineral contents. The effect of minerals on PT/PD was least.

  • Knowing the number of unit roots is important in the analysis of k-dimensional multivariate autoregressive process. In this paper we suggest simple multiple unit roots test statistics based on least squares estimator for the multivariate AR(1) process in which some eigenvalues are one and the rest are less than one in magnitude. The empirical distributions are tabulated for suggested test statistics. We have small Monte-Calro studies to compare the powers of the test statistics suggested by Johansen(1988) and in this paper.

  • Recently maximum likelihood estimators using unconditional likelihood function are used for testing unit roots. When one wants to use this method the determinant term of initial values in the multivariate unconditional likelihood function produces a complicated function of the elements in the coefficient matrix and variance matrix. In this paper an approximation of the determinant term is calculated and based on this aproximation an approximated unconditional likelihood function is calculated. The approximated unconditional maximum likelihood estimators can be used to test for unit roots. When multivariate process has one unit root the limiting distribution obtained by this method and the limiting distribution using exact unconditional likelihood function are the same.

  • This case report demonstrates an unnecessary endodontic treatment of teeth with florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) due to a misdiagnosis as periapical pathosis and emphasizes the importance of correct diagnosis to avoid unnecessary treatment. A 30-year-old woman was referred to our institution for apicoectomies of the mandibular left canine and both the lateral incisors. The periapical lesions associated with these teeth had failed to resolve after root canal treatment over a 3-year period. Radiographic examinations revealed multiple lesions on the right canine, the second premolar, and both first molars as well as the anterior region of the mandible. Based on clinical, radiographic and histological evaluations, the patient condition was diagnosed as FCOD. The patient has been monitored for 2 years. To avoid unnecessary invasive treatment, accurate diagnosis is essential before treatment is carried out in managing FCOD.

  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a severe adverse cutaneous drug reaction seen rarely in clinical practice. Although relatively rare, the condition can be fatal. Mainly, it is caused by side effects of certain medications. Previous reports have associated Stevens-Johnson syndrome with abnormal root development, but the other long-term dental complications have rarely been reported. In this case, the patient developed SJS at the age of 5, and abnormal root development of the maxillary and mandibular first molars and mandibular incisors was observed, as well as impaction of the mandibular canine and enamel hypomineralization of multiple teeth. Accordingly, appropriate restorative treatment and orthodontic treatment were performed, and the clinical characteristics of this symptoms and its treatment were discussed in more detail. We aim to highlight the need for dentists to be aware of the potential dental complications of SJS and to enable early diagnosis and management of the condition to avoid undesirable sequelae.

  • In this study, injection quantity, rate and spray image of multiple injections which are important design parameters for a piezo type injector have been investigated. Interval of injections and a number of injections in multiple injection strategy has been controlled to verify interaction of each injection. Spray characteristics of multiple injections have been researched through optical process with a high speed camera in a high pressure chamber. In addition, a method of RMS(Root Mean Square) process has been used for comprehending the distribution of injection easily. As a result, in case of piezo type injector, characteristics of injection quantity according to charging voltage and the difference of injection quantity between single and triple injection were confirmed. Also, injection rate for increasing injection duration was confirmed. And spray characteristics of multiple injections were improved; multiple injections were possible in a shorter time interval between each injection. With this study, a possibilities of more accurate multiple injection control would be expected.

  • Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is one of the most widely cultivated medicinal herbs in Korea. However, yield losses reached up to 30-60% due to various diseases during 3 or 5 years of ginseng cultivation in the country. Therefore, successful production of ginseng roots depends primarily on the control of diseases. The objective of this study was to select potential biocontrol agents from rhizobacteria isolated from various plant internal root tissues for the control of multiple ginseng diseases as an alternative to fungicides. Among 106 Bacillus strains, two promising biocontrol agents, Bacillus pumilus strain B1141 and Paenibacillus lentimobus strain B1146, were selected by screening against root rot of ginseng caused by Cylindrocarpon destructans in a greenhouse. Pre-inoculation of selected isolates to seed or l-year-old root of ginseng resulted in stimulation of shoot and/or root growth of seedlings, and successfully controlled root rot caused by C. destructans (P<0.05). Furthermore, drenching of cell suspension of the selected isolates on seedling-growing pots reduced the incidence of Phytophthora blight after the seedlings were challenged with zoospores of Phytophthora cactorum (P<0.05). P. lentimorbus strain B1146 showed antifungal activity against various soil-borne pathogens in vitro, while B. pumilus strain B1141 did not show any. Results of this study suggest that some rhizobacteria can induce resistance against various plant diseases on ginseng.

  • To improve new propagation method, I try to propagate wild polygonatum odoratum roots which formate adventitious bud without bud. The obtained results of size of roots and adventitious bud to formate for multiple propagation of wild polygonatum odoratum as the follow. One year grown wild polygonatum odoratum root in 5cm diameter formate 66.5% adventitious buds. One year grown wild polygonatum odoratum root in 15cm in diameter germinate 113% adventitious bud. Two years grown root in 15cm diameter formate adventitious bud three times more then one year root. Wild polygonatum odoratum in 15cm diameter without any bud in experiment plot makes 4 times of propagation. Sand and Perlite media propagaton plot was increased 3.1∼3.3times more than common culture medium. The best result of mass propagation wild polygonatum odoratum is 10mm diameter root and 5cm cut in length to plant sand media plot.

  • To estimate coefficient matrix in autoregressive model, usually ordinary least squares estimator or unconditional maximum likelihood estimator is used. It is unknown that for univariate AR(p) model, unconditional maximum likelihood estimator gives better power property that ordinary least squares estimator in testing for unit root with mean estimated. When autoregressive model contains multiple unit roots and unconditional likelihood function is used to estimate coefficient matrix, the seperation of nonstationary part and stationary part of the eigen-values in the estimated coefficient matrix in the limit is developed. This asymptotic property may give an idea to test for multiple unit roots.

  • The relationship between the gas chromatographic (GC) patterns of sauce made of barley bran and ranked order in sensory analysis was investigated by multiple regression analysis (MRA). Most of the 42 barley bran sauce samples comprised about 34 peaks, in which the content of 9, 12-octadecanoic acid methyl ester was the highest, followed by those of 2-furanmethanol and 2-furancarboxaldehyde. It is difficult to estimate the aroma quality of barley bran sauce samples on the basis of only one peak. The 34 aroma compounds of the 42 samples were analyzed by an MRA model featuring six transformations. The most precise fit was calculated from the absolute value transformed with the root square of each peak, and the multiple determination coefficient showed that 91.6% of the variation in the sensory score could be explained on the basis of GC data.
