  • Treatment of multiple gingival recession defects is usually more challenging than that of single gingival recession. Various techniques for the treatment of multiple gingival recession have been established. Recently, vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access (VISTA) technique has been considered to exhibit high predictive ability. Connective tissue graft (CTG) has also been considered a gold standard technique owing to its high predictability of root coverage. However, this technique requires a suitable donor site and has clinical disadvantages, such as additional pain. Thus, in this case presentation, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) was used as an alternative material for CTG along with VISTA. We herein report cases of two patients with Miller's class I and III multiple gingival recession defects, respectively. These patients underwent VISTA along with the use of a PRF membrane. They were followed up for 12 months postoperatively, and their clinical parameters, including probing depth, depth of gingival recession, clinical attachment level, and width of attached gingiva at baseline and at 2, 6, and 12 months postoperatively, were assessed. The patient with class 1 recession defects exhibited a significant amount of root coverage, which remained stable during the follow-up period. Whereas the patient with class 3 recession defects had lesser amount of coverage compared to class 1 patient. The partial coverage observed may be attributed to not only anatomical factors but also the technique-sensitive nature of the procedure. Considering these results, the use of VISTA along with PRF is a viable option for treating gingival recession, as it does not cause discomfort to patients. However, various factors need to be considered during the surgical procedure.

  • A general class of two-point optimal fourth-order methods is proposed for locating multiple roots of a nonlinear equation. We investigate convergence analysis and computational properties for the family. Special and simple cases are considered for real-life applications. Numerical experiments strongly verify the convergence behavior and the developed theory.

  • This study comprised 157 extracted teeth, 73 of the teeth originated from mates and 84 from females, the age range was 12-79 years. The correlation coefficient of each Gustafson's criteria in relation to age was carried out. Age estimation were performed on 157 teeth according to the method by Gustafson and by use of multiple regression, as used by Johanson, after evaluating the six criteria of Gustafson by multiple regression computer analysis. Two prediction formulas and standard deviations were compared with each other. The results were as follows : 1. The author found that six Gustafson's criteria had strong correlation with age except root resorption, and correlation coefficients were r = 0.79 (Transparent dentin), r=0.72 (Secondary dentin), r 0.69 (Periodontal change), r=0.63(Attrition), r = 0.39 (Root resorption), respecti vely. 2. The age estimation formula by Gustafson's method was calculated as follows: Y 8.88 + 3.52X r =0.87, r2 = 0.76, SD = 8.18, F = 483.56, P < 0.01 The age estimation formula by multiple regression was calculated as follows: Y 8.57 + 6.37T + 6.37T + 4.63P + 2.70S + 2.40C + 3.08A + 1.34R r= 0.89, r2 = 0.78, SD = 7.82, F = 91.62, P < 0.01, Durbin-Watson Coefficient = 1.09 3. In comparison of two estimation formulas, the formula by multiple regression, the method of Johanson, was found to be slightly more reliable than Gustafson's method. Gustafson's method SD = 8.18, Multiple regression (Johanson's method) SD = 7.82 4. It was reaffirmed that Gustafson's six criteria could be a independent variable in multiple regression analysis.

  • $K^+$ currents play multiple roles in the excitability of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Influences on these currents change the shape of the action potential, its firing threshold and the resting membrane potential. In this study, whole cell configuration of patch clamp technique had been applied to record the blocking effect of capsaicin, a lipophilic alkaloid, on the delayed rectifier $K^+$ current in cultured small diameter DRG neurons of adult rat. Capsaicin reduced the amplitude of $K^+$ current in dose dependent manner, and the concentration-dependence curve was well described by the Hill equation with $K_D$ value of $19.1{\mu}M.$ The blocking effect of capsaicin was reversible. Capsaicin $(10 {\mu}M)$ shifted the steady-state inactivation curve in the hyperpolarizing direction by about 15 mV and increased the rate of inactivation. The voltage dependence of activation was not affected by capsaicin. These multiple effects of capsaicin may suggest that capsaicin bind to the region of $K^+$ channel, participating in inactivation process.

  • To prevent structured peer to peer (P2P) overlay networksfrom being attacked by malicious nodes, a symmetric lookup-based routing algorithm referred to as Symmetric-Chord is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm determines the precision of routing lookup by constructing multiple paths to the destination. The selective routing algorithm is used to acquire information on the neighbors of the root. Authenticity of the root is validated via consistency shown between the information ascertained from the neighbors and information from the yet-to-be-verified root, resulting in greater efficiency of resource lookup. Simulation results demonstrate that Symmetric-Chordhas the capability of detecting malicious nodes both accurately and efficiently, so as to identify which root holds the correct key, and provides an effective approach to the routing security for the P2P overlay network.

  • A lot of individual ginseng plants were selected in the farmer's fields to develop new ginseng varieties with desirable traits. Among them, a promising line has been developed through comparative cultivation of several lines selected with pure line separation of local raced. It was then designated as "KC (denotes Korean Ginseng)" and tested in the regional yield and adaptation trials for 10 years. KG lines grew vigorously after 4 years of age. Especially, KG 102 line arson운 them showed traits of multiple and short stems. As for the root characters, the length of taproot of KG 101 line was longer than that of local race, Jakyung-jong, or other lines ailed the root weight of KG 102 line waIn 15 % higher than that of local race. In general, KG 101, KG 103, KG 104, and Hwangsauk-jong had good root shape. Total amount of ginsenosides of ginseng taproot was the highest in KG 103 line than in local race and other lines. In these studies, we, elected three superior lines, KG 101, KG 102, and KG 103, having characteristic of good root shape, high yield, and large amount of ginsenoside, respectively.

  • The root-locus method is often employed when a controller is designed to find controller gain. It is usually used to determine one parameter gain while most controllers for industrial applications have more than one controller gain. For example PID controller has three controller gains, i.e. P, I, and D gains. Thus the conventional root-locus technique cannot complete the design of a controller with more than one controller gain. One way to overcome this drawback has been to apply the root-locus technique for one parameter while other parameters are assumed to be proportional to the parameter or to be constant. However this approach could lead to limited performance of the controller and if we try to adjust the proportional ratio or constants then it could be a long and tedious process of trial and error. Thus it is required to find an effective method for the root-locus technique to design controllers with more than one parameter. To this end this paper proposes an extended root-locus method for controllers with two parameters. In this paper Matlab is used as a computation tool to show the effectiveness of our method by solving examples numerically. As a result we obtained an extended root-locus illustrated in two-dimensional space for a control system with two parameters. The paper then presents how to find two controller gains based on this result of the extended root-locus. The main idea is that we can find the parameters by approaching the desired poles. It is expected that the proposed idea will help control engineers to easily design control systems using the root-locus technique, resulting in more accurate and faster control systems. Note that the extended root-locus idea can be applied to controller design problems with multiple parameters.

  • Deep rooting, which enables plants to extract water from greater soil depths, is a critical strategy for improving plant survival under water-deficient conditions. However, as it is difficult to observe intact root systems belowground, several techniques have been developed to screen deep- and shallow-rooting phenotypes in rice. Here, we introduce a simple and convenient method for deep- and shallow-rooting phenotyping using a unique combination of sand, soil, and plastic mesh netting. Vandana, a drought-tolerant rice variety, and Dongjin, a Korean japonica rice variety, were used to analyze root phenotypes. No significant differences in root length were observed in rice grown under irrigated conditions regardless of net position, whereas roots were significantly longer, and ratio of deep root (RDR) values were significantly higher in Vandana rice grown under semi-drought conditions. In summary, this simple and useful method represents a low-cost means of phenotyping the roots of rice and other crops grown in various-sized pots and at multiple plant growth stages.

  • Assuming that a given nonlinear function f : $\mathbf{R}{\rightarrow}\mathbf{R}$ has a zero $\alpha$with integer multiplicity $m{\geq}1$ and is sufficiently smooth in a small neighborhood of $\alpha$, we define extended leap-frogging Newton's method. We investigate the order of convergence and the asymptotic error constant of the proposed method as a function of multiplicity m. Numerical experiments for various test functions show a satisfactory agreement with the theory presented in this paper and are throughly verified via Mathematica programming with its high-precision computability.

  • An efficient interacting multiple mode(IMM) approach for tracking a maneuvering target with kinematic constraints is described based on the square root information filter(SRIF). The SRIF is employed instead of the conventional Kalman filter since it exhibits more efficient features in handling the kinematic constraints and improved numerical characteristics. The kinematic constraints are considered in the filtering process as pseudomeasurements where the degree of uncertainty is represented by the magnitude of the pseudomeasurement noise variance. The Monte Carlo simulations for the constant speed, maneuvering target are provided to demonstrate the improved tracking performance of the proposed algorithm.
