  • Excised cotyledon segments of ginseng zygotic embryos cultured on MS basal medium without growth regulators produced somatic embryos near the basal excised portion at a high frequency. The frequency of somatic embryo formation on the segments declined along with advancing zygotic embryo maturity. In immature cotyledons, all the cells of the epidermis and subepidermis were smaller and more densely cytoplasmic than those in mature cotyledons, and from which multiple cells participated in embryogenic division to form somatic embryos with multiple cotyledons and fasciated radicles (poly-embryos). But in germinating cotyledons, only the epidermal cells were densely cytoplasmic and singularly competent to develop into somatic embryos resulting in single-embryos with closed radicles. This result means that the origin and development of somatic embryos is determined according to whether the cells participating in embryonic division are in a single state or a massive state relative to cotyledon maturity.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the risk of being underweight between multicultural and Korean-origin adolescents. Methods: This study used the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey data of 2016. A total of 46,457 underweight and normal-weight adolescents were included. General characteristics, health status and health behavior variables, and weight related variables were included. Weighted percentage and means were used to describe the sample. Simple and multiple logistic regressions were conducted using SAS 9.2. Results: From the simple and multiple logistic regression, multicultural adolescents showed a higher risk of being underweight (OR: 1.63, 95% CI: 1.20~2.20; AOR: 1.51, 95% CI: 1.01~2.27) than Korean-origin adolescents. Among the covariates, being female (AOR: 1.90, 95% CI: 1.72~2.10), being older (AOR: 1.18, 95% CI: 1.15~1.22), having poor self-health perception (AOR: 1.56, 95% CI: 1.24~1.82), having longer hours of sleep (AOR: 1.12, 95% CI: 1.09~1.16), having fewer days of exercise (AOR: 0.94, 95% CI: 0.91~0.96), and doing vigorous exercise less (AOR: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.68~0.89) showed a higher risk of being underweight. Self-rated health and effort to control weight were also significantly related to being underweight. Conclusion: Since multicultural adolescents are vulnerable to being underweight, it is necessary to develop intervention programs to reduce the number of underweight multicultural adolescents.

  • In order to learn the origin of the Chinese Mongolian horse, we analyzed polymorphisms within the mtDNA D-loop variable region in 305 horses of 6 types of 3 different breeds, including one imported breed, one cultivated breed and 4 types of one local breed. We detected 13 different haplotypes, and subsequent sequence analysis showed that all 6 horse types were genetically diverse. By constructing a cladogram of mtDNA D-loop sequences from the 6 horse types along with homologous sequences from several other horse types obtained from GenBank, we showed that Chinese Mongolian horses have a close genetic relationship with other horse types from Mongolia. We also speculate that several Chinese Mongolian horses descended from Przewalskii horse. Additionally, the 13 haplotypes were dispersed throughout the cladogram, suggesting that Chinese Mongolian horses likely originated from multiple female ancestors. A phylogenetic map of the 6 horse types showed that the genetic relationship between the local Wuzhumuqin and Wushen types were the closest. The Xinihe and Baerhu were also closely related to each other, and slightly more distantly related to the cultivated Sanhe breed. All five of the local Chinese horse types had a much more distant relationship with the imported Thoroughbred breed.

  • Safflower is a world-wide plant for multiple uses. flower of safflower is honghwa(紅花) which has been used for heart disease in oriental medicine. but its seed was not used in oriental medicine. after the publication of "Shinyak(神藥)" - the late 1980s, its seed(紅花子, hongwhassi) was known as good for bone fracture, osteoporosis and menopausal disorders. so many researchers studied hongwhassi and delivered lots of papers. the concern of each paper is different. this paper is a review paper. this paper studied documentary records about hongwhassi, and analyzed hongwhassi research trend. the trend consists of cultivation, ingredient analysis, osteoporosis, atherosclerosis, periodontal ligament and phytoestrogen. many papers lack of information about plant origin. so this paper supplements the standard form of plant origin(when sowing, where grow up, which direction, what kind etc).

  • Objectives : This paper investigates the background, meaning and origin of the descriptions of the Heart such as 'seven orifices', 'sanmao', 'saw-toothed four layered lines' that are unique to the diagram in the Donguibogam. Methods : First the Heart diagram of the Donguibogam was compared with other Zhangfu diagrams of the past. Materials related to unique features in the descriptions of the Heart in the Donguibogam were collected, against which descriptive features were analyzed. Results : Of the many unique features, the descriptive basis of the 'seven orifices' could be found in the Qixingban[七星板] as a physical entity reflecting basic anatomical knowledge. The 'sanmao', which is compared to the Santaixing[三台星], could be understood as a non-physical entity whose descriptive basis could be found in the Xinxuetu of the Xinching. It could be assumed that the 'saw-toothed four layered lines' are likened to the multi-layered petals or calyx of a lotus flower bud to describe the Pericardium, or to the multiple walls of a mountain fortress surrounding a palace to describe the Danzhong, which is the chest cavity. These features could be understood as results of spiritualism influence. Conclusions : It could be concluded that Heo Jun, in his attempt to describe the Heart in more detail than previous diagrams of the Zangfu, referenced popular texts and images based on anatomical knowledge of previous texts, added varied descriptions resulting in a new diagram with a completely different origin.

  • This paper examines the Spaghetti bowl effect that different tariffs and rules of origin in multiple FTAs have resulted in increasing the significantly additional burden for business when it comes to apply for the use of FTA preference. The wide spread of FTAs in the several years, from 2003 to 2010, has been the most important trade policy development in economically important Korea. Korea presently has 5 FTAs in effect, and made 3 additional agreements which will be expected to take effect in next year. With the study result and expecting a growing number of FTAs in Korea in a next decade, the international trading firms will face rise of transaction costs for enterprises, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) to cope with multiple tariffs and rule of origins in FTAs. To help mitigate negative effects and facilitate a more SEMs to use the FTA preference, providing new computer programs system, increasing the awareness of FTA provisions, improving business participation in FTA consultations, and SME support in light of education, and financial support are needed.

  • Most globular clusters are now known to have two or more stellar populations with different chemical properties. In order to understand the origin and evolution of multiple stellar populations in these globular clusters, it is necessary to study not only the chemical property, but also the dynamical property. In our previous works (Lim et al. 2015; Han et al. 2015), we have shown that Ca narrow-band photometry can be combined with low-resolution spectroscopy to effectively study the chemical properties of globular clusters. In this talk, we will show our observations are also useful to study the radial distribution of stars in globular clusters with multiple stellar populations, and report our preliminary results.

  • A case of large aneurysm arising from the distal end of an azygous A2 segment is presented. Multiple clip application inadvertently tore the aneurysmal neck, resulting in near avulsion of a right pericallosal artery origin. After an unsuccessful attempt to repair the avulsion, it was treated by occlusion of the origin of the pericallosal artery and an A4-A4 anterior cerebral artery in situ bypass without neurological deficits. The surgical technique and previous reports onside-to-side in situ bypass are discussed.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the roles of child group home directors and their experiences with children. The study utilised the interpretive science paradigm and individual in-depth interviews for data collection. The qualitative theme analysis method explored the experiences of child group home directors. The participants, seven group home directors in the metropolitan area of Seoul, explained their multiple roles such as protector, nurturer, discipliner, mediator, and supporter of children while recognizing dysfunctions of children's family of origin. Participants claimed that the specialization of the child group home and the professionalism of its staffs were needed in order to improve the quality of child welfare. The results of this study might contribute to practical suggestions for group home professionals.
