  • This paper suggested that the technical specification of tilting train EMU for speed up on existing lines. High speed strategy of existing lines are the modification of railway system which are made on cant, lengths of transition curves, the catenary system and train system. Tilting technology is more useful a strategy for speed increases on existing lines with low investment needed. We performed a feasibility study which is considered out real track conditions and designed propulsion and braking system of tilting EMU system.

  • As materials on the river bed have been changing through erosion, transportation and accumulation, so does the waterway's section. So many bridges have nowadays been constructed to the same direction as water flows. However further researches are still needed on the scours of succession row piers and multiple row piers. Analyzing them through hydraulic stimulation experiments, this study deals with the scour character with the change of diameters in row piers which have been built in the identical direction of water flow and also the part-scour character change in multiple row piers.

  • In the last decade, traveling purchaser problem (TPP) has received some attention of the researchers in the operational research area. TPP is a generalization of the well-known traveling salesman problem (TSP), which has many real-world applications such as purchasing the required raw materials for the manufacturing factories and the scheduling of a set of jobs over some machines, and many others. In this paper we suggest heterogeneous multiple traveling purchaser problem with budget constraint (HMTPP-B) which looks for several cycles starting at and ending to the depot and visiting a subset at a minimum traveling cost and such that the demand for each product is satisfied and the cost spent for purchasing the products does not exceed a given budget threshold. All the past studies of TPP are restricted on a single purchaser. Therefore we randomly generated some instances. CPLEX is used for getting optimal solutions in these experiments.

  • The traveling purchaser problem(TPP) is a generalization of the well-known traveling salesman problem(TSP), which has many real-world applications such as purchasing the required raw materials for the manufacturing factories and the scheduling of a set of jobs over some machines, and many others. TPP also could be extended to the vehicle routing problem(VRP) by incorporating additional constraints such as multi-purchaser, capacity, distance and time restrictions. In the last decade, TPP has received some attention of the researchers in the operational research area. However it has not received the equivalent interest as much as TSP and VRP. Therefore, there does not exist a review of the TPP. The purpose of this paper is to review the TPP and to describe solution procedures proposed for this problem. We also introduce the ILP formulation for the multiple TPP(mTPP) which is generalized type of TPP. We compare the system performance according to change from TPP to mTPP.

  • Two-dimensional elastic contact problems, including normal, tangential, and rolling contacts, are treated with the finite element method in this study. Stress boundary conditions and kinematic conditions are transformed into multiple point constraints for nodal displacements in the finite element method. Upon imposing these constraints into the finite element system equations, the calculated nodal stresses and nodal displacements satisfy stress and displacement contact conditions exactly. Frictional and frictionless contacts between elastically identical as well as elastically dissimilar materials are treated in this study. The contact lengths, sizes of slip and stick regions, the normal and the shear stresses can be found.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe how the rural elderly cope with experiences in multiple chronic diseases. Method: Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interview using ethnography. The participants were 9 women and 2 men who aged over 65, were living in rural community, and had experienced two or more chronic diseases. Results: According to the results of this study, those who had experienced multiple chronic diseases went through the stages of 'recognizing of revealed symptoms', 'discovering of disease', 'overcoming', 'neglecting', 'discovering another disease', 'being frustrated' and 'living with suffering'. Conclusion: The results of this study are expected to be utilized as basic materials to develop a nursing intervention program for effective management of chronic diseases.

  • The Reproducing Kernel Particle Method (RKPM), one of the popular meshless methods, is developed and applied to stress concentration problems. Since the meshless methods require only a set of particles (or nodes) and the description of boundaries in their formulation, the adaptivity can be implemented with much more ease than finite element method. In addition, due to its intrinsic property of multiresolution, the shape function of RKPM provides us a new criterion for adaptivity. Recently, this multiple scale Reproducing Kernel Particle Method and its adaptive procedure have been formulated for large deformation problems by the authors. They are also under development for damage materials and localization problems. In this paper the multiple scale RKPM for linear elasticity is presented and the adaptive procedure is applied to stress concentration problems. Therefore, this work may be regarded as the edition of linear elasticity in the complete framework of multiple scale RKPM and the associated adaptivity.

  • Laser-assisted machining (LAM) is one of the most effective methods of processing difficult-to-cut materials, such as titanium alloys and various ceramics. However, it is associated with problems such as the inability of the laser heat source to generate an appropriate preheating temperature. To solve the problem, thermally assisted machining with multiple heat sources is proposed. In this study, thermal analysis of multiple heat sources by laser and arc is performed according to power, heat source size, and leading heat source position. Then, the results are analyzed according to each condition. The results of this analysis can be used as a reference to predict preheating temperature in thermally assisted machining with multiple heat sources.

In the last decade, TPP has received some attention of the researchers in the operational research area. However, all of the past researches for TPP are restricted on a single purchaser (vehicle). It could be the limitation to solve the real world problem. The purpose of this paper is to suggest the capacitated multiple TPP (CMTPP). It could be used in inbound logistics optimization in supply chain management area and many others. Since TPP is known as NP-hard, we also developed the heuristic algorithm to solve the CMTPP.

  • Finite element analysis is performed on the subsurface crack propagation in brittle materials due to sliding contact. The sliding contact is simulated by a rigid asperity moving across the surface of an elastic half-surface containing single and multiple cracks. The single crack, coplanar cracks and parallel cracks are modeled to investigate the interaction effects on the crack growth in contact fatigue. The crack location is fixed and the friction coefficients between asperity and half-space are varied to analyze the effect of surface friction on stress intensity factor for horizontal cracks. The crack propagation direction is predicted based on the maximum range of shear and tensile stress intensity factors. With a coplanar crack, the stress intensity factor was increased. However, with a parallel crack, the stress intensity factor was decreased. These results indicate that the interaction of a coplanar crack increases fatigue crack propagation, whereas that of a parallel crack decreases it.
