  • In the recent years, environmentally conscious design and manufacturing technologies have attracted considerable attention. The coolants, lubricants, solvents, metallic chips and discarded tools from manufacturing operations will harm our environment and the earth's ecosystem. In the present work, the Tukey method of multiple comparisons is used to select the minimum level of coolant required in a turning process. The amount of coolant is varied in 270 designed experiments and the parameters cutting temperature, surface roughness, and specific cutting energy are carefully evaluated. The effects of coolant mix ratio as well as the amount of coolant on the turning process are studied in the present work. The cutting temperature and surface roughness for different quantity of coolant are investigated by analysis of variance (ANOVA) - test and a multiple comparison method. ANOVA-test results signify that the average tool temperature and surface roughness depend on the amount of coolant. Based on Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) method, one of the multiple comparison methods, the minimum level of coolant is 1.0 L/min with 2% mix ratio in the aspect of controlling tool temperature. F-test concludes that the amount of coolant used does not have any significant effect on specific cutting energy. Finally, Tukey method ascertains that 0.5 L/min with 6% mix ratio is the minimum level of coolant required in turning process without any serious degradation of the surface finish. Considering all aspects of cutting, the minimum coolant required is 1.0 L/min with 6% mix ratio. It is merely half the coolant currently used i.e. 2.0 L/min with 10% mix ratio. Minimal use of coolant not only economically desirable for reducing manufacturing cost but also it imparts fewer hazards to human health. Also, sparing use of coolant will eventually transform the turning process into a more environment-conscious manufacturing process.

  • In Korea, it is also mandatory for most buildings to receive energy efficiency rating certification from 2020 for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and expanding green buildings. However, the issue of the accuracy of the ECO2 program continues to be raised, and comparisons have been made with dynamic energy analysis programs in a single type of building according to a single area. However, comparisons between multiple building types and multiple areas are insufficient. Therefore, in this study, cooling and heating loads according to multiple building types and multiple areas were analyzed through ECO2 and TRNSYS programs. The regions were supposed to be Seoul, Daejeon, Gwangju, and Busan and the building types were supposed to be office buildings and apartment houses. The annual average building load values from ECO2 were higher than those from TRNSYS. Among residential buildings across the four regions, the largest discrepancy was 41.4% in Seoul. Conversely, for commercial buildings, the most significant difference in annual average loads was noted in Gwangju, at 37.9%.

Method : Three groups were made with 15 patients in Po-Hang Oriental Hospital, which is affiliates to Daegu Haany University. They were observed August 1st, 2010 to September 30th. 2010. Each group was treated by based on acupuncture, herb and other therapy and differential dosage of Jungsongouhyul pharmacopuncture 0,4, 0.8, and 1.2cc. We had measured pain threshold and Visual Analog Scale during first week of their admission. The statistical analysis was performed by using the oneway ANOVA and Tukey's test. Result : Change of VAS was not statistically significant. Change of pain threshold was statistically significant. Multiple comparisons of pain threshold between the group1,2 was not statistically significant. Multiple comparisons of pain threshold between the group1,3 and group2,3 was statistically significant. Conclusions : Jungsongouhyul Pharmacopuncture 1.2cc was more effective than 0.4 and 0.8cc.

  • This paper presents the applicability of series tuned mass dampers (STMDs) to reduce the multiple resonant responses of continuous railway bridges under high-speed train. The bridge is modeled by two-span Bernoulli-Euler beam with uniform cross-section, and a STMD device consisting of two TMD units installed on the bridge to reduce its multiple resonant vibrations. The system is assumed to be under the action of a high-speed train passage which is modeled as a series of moving forces. Sequential Programming Technique (SQP) is carried out to find the optimal parameters of the STMD that minimizes the maximum peak responses of the bridge. Comparisons with the results available in the literature are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of STMD system in reducing the multiple resonant responses of the continuous railway bridges under high-speed trains.

  • The elastic T-stress is increasingly being recognized as an important second parameter to the stress intensity factor for fracture and fatigue assessments. In this paper, the mutual or M-contour integral approach is employed in conjunction with the Boundary Element Method (BEM) to determine the numerical T-stress solutions for cracks in plates with multiple holes. The problems investigated include plates of infinite width with multiple holes at which single or double, symmetric cracks have grown from. Comparisons of these results are also made with the corresponding solutions of finite plates with a single hole. For completeness, stress intensity factor solutions for the cracked geometries analyzed are presented as well. These results will be useful for failure assessments using the two-parameter linear elastic fracture mechanics approach.

  • In this paper, the boundary element method is applied to solve the diffraction of waves by multiple vertical cylinders under the assumption of linear wave theory. A numerical analysis by boundary element method is based on Green's theorem and introduced to an integral equation for the fluid velocity potential around the cylinders. The numerical results obtained in this study are compared with the experimental data and the results of the theory using multiple scattering techniques. The comparisons show strong agreement. This numerical analysis method developed by using boundary element method could be used broadly for the design of various offshore structures to be constructed in coastal zones in the future.

  • Multiple-control Toffoli(MCT) gates are macro-level multiple-valued gates needing quantum technology dependent primitive gates, and have been used in Galois Field sum-of-product (GFSOP) based synthesis of quantum logic circuit. Reversible logic is very important in quantum computing for low-power circuit design. This paper presents a reversible GF4 multiplier at first, and GF4 multiplier based quaternary MCT gate realization is also proposed. In the comparisons of MCT gate realization, we show the proposed MCT gate can reduce considerably primitive gates and delays in contrast to the composite one of the smaller MCT gates in proportion to the multiple-control input increase.

  • The current study examines the association between multiple losses and depressive symptoms and the role of social support in multiple losses. Using a prospective designed dataset(Changing Lives of Older Couples), this study found a significant difference on the depressive symptom levels between multiple losses and single loss. In addition, there was a significant buffering effect of social support in bereavement, as oppose to previous literature that social support does not buffer the initial bereavement reaction in comparisons between the bereaved with multiple losses and the bereaved with a single loss. The author discusses the importance of monitoring elderly people with multiple losses and availability of social support before and after the loss.

  • In this paper, design and analysis of anchorage zone in prestressed concrete structure using nonlinear strut and tie model is presented. Nonlinear strut and tie model is an analysis and design model which constructs strut and tie model based on nonlinear analysis considering the nonlinear behavior of concrete. Based on the nonlinear strut and tie model, the analysis and design are performed for the anchorage zone having singular concentric tendons, singular eccentric tendons and multiple tendons, respectively. For verification of the model, comparisons are made with experimental results as well as results by linear strut and tie models. from the comparisons, it is shown that the design of the anchorage zone by the nonlinear model is still economical without loosing the degree of safety and the prediction of the ultimate load by the nonlinear model gives better accuracy than by the linear one.
