Small and middle sized Franchise system channels experience conflicts because of constant interaction between franchiser and franchisee. However, it is rarely that attempt has been made to identify causes of conflicts in distribution of franchise industry. The purpose of this study was to explore cause of conflicts from the franchisee. For the study, data were collected from the owner or the shop-manager with a contractor in franchise systems. By means of in-depth interviews with multiple informants, their statement was analyzed qualitatively. From analysis of the resulting data, the causes of conflicts were associated with two broad sets, attitudinal and structural differences between franchisers and franchisees. First, attitudinal sources of conflict were identified as perception of subordinated relationships between channel members, delayed announcement on order changes, difficulties in communication by doing irresponsible behavior, different expectations between channel members in market territory and lack of consistent-supporting. Second, structural sources of conflict involved unilateral decision on interior, payment method, unreasonable delivery issue, treat franchisee with discrimination by the sales, in controlling against free management. There are limitations on generalization due to the results based on interview, but this study will be a useful exploratory step before designing a large scale survey.
Although IoT systems are used in a variety of heterogeneous environments as cloud environments develop, all IoT devices are not provided with reliable protocols and services. This paper proposes an IoT data management technique that can extend the IoT cloud environment to an n-layer multi-level structure so that information collected from different heterogeneous IoT devices can be efficiently sorted and processed. The proposed technique aims to classify and process IoT information by transmitting routing information and weight information through wireless data link data collected from heterogeneous IoT devices. The proposed technique not only delivers information classified from IoT devices to the corresponding routing path but also improves the efficiency of IoT data processing by assigning priority according to weight information. The IoT devices used in the proposed technique use each other's reliable protocols, and queries for other IoT devices locally through a local cloud composed of hierarchical structures have features that ensure scalability because they maintain a certain cost.y channels of IoT information in order to make the most of the multiple antenna technology.
Recent portable devices are so versatile that they have multiple communication channels and play several multimedia formats. Especially, many services are under development for users who connect Internet or nearby devices via WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) and/or WLAN (Wireless LAN). In case of paying the telecommunication cost proportional to the amount of data downloaded, it is necessary to reduce the cost by constructing a special ad hoc network in which each participating peer downloads a specific portion of the want-to-be-shared content over the payable WWAN channel and exchanges the remaining portion with other peers using the cost-free WLAN channel. If all peers participate in forwarding packets, some transmissions are redundant which results in the unnecessary consumption of bandwidth as well as the delayed content distribution time. In order to reduce the redundant transmission, this paper proposes both the excluding method which discourages some peers not to forward redundant packets, and the minimum cover set method in which only the minimum number of peers are in charge of forwarding packets. These two methods obviate redundant packet forwarding, and result in reduction of content distribution time by up to around 29%.
The development of information and communication technologies (ICT) and changes in medical services centering on daily life have ushered in an era of self-management through the smartphone health management app (mHealth). This study identified the factors affecting mHealth use among older adults with diabetes. A structured survey was conducted using online and offline channels for 252 older adults who were over 65 and had diabetes. The collected data were subjected to hierarchical multiple regression analyses, and subjective health status, e-health literacy, and interaction terms of social support were inputted to verify moderating effect. The main results of this study are as follows. First, mHealth use among older adults with diabetes was higher in the male, type 2 diabetes, and younger age groups. Second, the higher was the e-health literacy, the higher was the mHealth use. Third, a negative moderating effect of social support was found in the relationship between subjective health status and mHealth use. We expect this study to provide researchers and managers interested in mHealth and older adults with diabetes, with valuable theoretical and practical implications. Furthermore, this study contributes to improving mHealth use among older adults with diabetes and building a digitally inclusive society.
An acoustic vector sensor can simultaneously receive vector quantities, such as particle velocity and acceleration, as well as acoustic pressure at one location, and thus it can be used as a single input multiple output receiver in underwater acoustic communication systems. On the other hand, vector signals received by a single vector sensor have different channel characteristics due to the azimuth angle between the source and receiver and the difference in propagation angle of multipath in each component, producing different communication performances. In this paper, we propose a channel parameter-based weighting method to improve the performance of an acoustic communication system using a single vector sensor. To verify the proposed method, we used communication data collected from the experiment conducted during the KOREX-17 (Korea Reverberation Experiment). For communication demodulation, block-based time reversal technique which is robust against time-varying channels were utilized. Finally, the communication results showed that the effectiveness of the channel parameter-based weighting method for the underwater communication system using a single vector sensor was verified.
Underwater acoustic wave in shallow water is propagated through multipath that has a large delay spread causing Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) and these characteristics deteriorate the performance in the communication system. In order to analyze the communication performance and investigate the correlation with multipath delay spread in a reverberant environment, an underwater acoustic communication experiment using Binary Phase-Shift Keying (BPSK) signals with symbol rates from 100 sym/s to 8000 sym/s was conducted in a 5 × 5 × 5 m3 water tank. The acoustic channels in a well-controlled tank environment had the characteristics of dense multipath delay spread due to multiple reflections from the interfaces and walls within the tank and showed the maximum excess delay of 40 ms or less, and the Root Mean Squared (RMS) delay spread of 8 ms or less. In this paper, the performances of Bit Error Rate (BER) and output Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) were analyzed using four types of communication demodulation techniques. And the parameter, Symbol interval to Delay spread Ratio in reverberant environment (SDRrev), which is the ratio of symbol interval to RMS delay spread in the reverberant environment is defined. Finally, the SDRrev was compared to the BER and the output SNR. The results present the reference symbol rate in which high communication performance can be guaranteed.
Transmembrane protein TMEM16A, which encodes calcium-activated chloride channel has been implicated in tumorigenesis. Overexpression of TMEM16A is associated with poor prognosis and low overall survival in multiple cancers including lung adenocarcinoma, making it a promising biomarker and therapeutic target. In this study, three structure-related sesquiterpene lactones (mecheliolide, costunolide and dehydrocostus lactone) were extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine Aucklandiae Radix and identified as novel TMEM16A inhibitors with comparable inhibitory effects. Their effects on the proliferation and migration of lung adenocarcinoma cells were examined. Whole-cell patch clamp experiments showed that these sesquiterpene lactones potently inhibited recombinant TMEM16A currents in a concentration-dependent manner. The half-maximal concentration (IC50) values for three tested sesquiterpene lactones were 29.9 ± 1.1 µM, 19.7 ± 0.4 µM, and 24.5 ± 2.1 µM, while the maximal effect (Emax) values were 100.0% ± 2.8%, 85.8% ± 0.9%, and 88.3% ± 4.6%, respectively. These sesquiterpene lactones also significantly inhibited the endogenous TMEM16A currents and proliferation, and migration of LA795 lung cancer cells. These results demonstrate that mecheliolide, costunolide and dehydrocostus lactone are novel TMEM16A inhibitors and potential candidates for lung adenocarcinoma therapy.

Recently, many problems are occurring in the bee ecosystem due to rapid climate change. The decline in the bee population and changes in the flowering period are having a huge impact on the harvest of bee-keepers. Since it is impossible to continuously observe the beehives in the hive with the naked eye, most people rely on knowledge based on experience about the state of the hive. Therefore, interest is focused on smart beekeeping incorporating IoT technology. In particular, with regard to swarming, which is one of the most important parts of beekeeping, we know empirically that the swarming time can be determined by the sound of the queen bee, but there is no way to systematically analyze this with data. You may think that it can be done by simply recording the sound of the queen bee and analyzing it, but it does not solve various problems such as various noise issues around the hive and the inability to continuously record. In this study, we developed a system that records queen bee sounds in a real-time cloud system and analyzes sound patterns. After receiving real-time analog sound from the hive through multiple channels and converting it to digital, a sound pattern that was continuously output in the queen bee sound frequency band was discovered. By accessing the cloud system, you can monitor sounds around the hive, temperature/humidity inside the hive, weight, and internal movement data. The system developed in this study made it possible to analyze the sound patterns of the queen bee and learn about the situation inside the hive. Through this, it will be possible to predict the swarming period of bees or provide information to control the swarming period.
RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) systems are attracting attention as a key component of Internet of Things technology due to the cost and energy efficiency of application services. In order to use RFID technology in the IoT application service field, it is necessary to be able to store and manage various information for a long period of time as well as simple recognition between the reader and tag of the RFID system. And in order to read and write information to tags, a performance improvement technology that is strong and reliable in poor wireless channels is needed. In particular, in the UHF(Ultra High Frequency) RFID system, since multiple tags communicate passively in a crowded environment, it is essential to improve the recognition rate and transmission speed of individual tags. In this paper, Middleton's Class A impulsive noise model was selected to analyze the performance of the RFID system in an impulsive noise environment, and FM0 encoding and Miller encoding were applied to the tag to analyze the error rate performance of the RFID system. As a result of analyzing the performance of the RFID system in Middleton's Class A impulsive noise channel, it was found that the larger the Gaussian noise to impulsive noise power ratio and the impulsive noise index, the more similar the characteristics to the Gaussian noise channel.
With the advent of the various device types and marketing communication, customer's search and purchase behavior have become more complex and segmented. However, extant research on multichannel marketing effects of the purchase funnel has not reflected the specific features of device User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX). In this study, we analyzed the marketing channel effects of multi-device shoppers using a unique click stream dataset from global online retailers. We examined device types that activate online shopping and compared the differences between marketing channels that promote visits. In addition, we estimated the direct and indirect effects on visits and purchase revenue through customer's accumulated experience and channel conversions. The findings indicate that the same customer selects a different marketing channel according to the device selection. These results can help retailers gain a better understanding of customers' decision-making process in multi-marketing channel environment and devise the optimal strategy taking into account various device types. Our empirical analyses yield business implications based on the significant results from global big data analytics and contribute academically meaningful theoretical framework using an economic model. We also provide strategic insights attributed to the practical value of an online marketing manager.
