Modeling and Analysis of Burst Switching for Wireless Packet Data (무선 패킷 데이터를 위한 Burst switching의 모델링 및 분석)

  • The third generation mobile communication needs to provide multimedia service with increased data rates. Thus an efficient allocation of radio and network resources is very important. This paper models the 'burst switching' as an efficient radio resource allocation scheme and the performance is compared to the circuit and packet switching. In burst switching, radio resource is allocated to a call for the duration of data bursts rather than an entire session or a single packet as in the case of circuit and packet switching. After a stream of data burst, if a packet does not arrive during timer2 value ($\tau_{2}$), the channel of physical layer is released and the call stays in suspended state. Again if a packet does not arrive for timerl value ($\tau_{1}$) in the suspended state, the upper layer is also released. Thus the two timer values to minimize the sum of access delay and queuing delay need to be determined. In this paper, we focus on the decision of $\tau_{2}$ which minimizes the access and queueing delay with the assumption that traffic arrivals follow Poison process. The simulation, however, is performed with Pareto distribution which well describes the bursty traffic. The computational results show that the delay and the packet loss probability by the burst switching is dramatically reduced compared to the packet switching.

Multimedia Stream Transmission Scheme using Parallel Server in Wireless and Mobile Environment (무선 모바일 환경에서 병렬서버를 사용한 멀티미디어 스트림 전송기법)

  • 기존의 VOD 서비스는 일반적으로 단일 서버 모델을 사용하여 서비스 되어왔다. 그렇지만 단일 서버 모델의 VOD 서비스는 서버 용량의 확장에 따른 오버헤드가 크며 서버 고장시 VOD 서비스를 실시할 수 없는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 이런 문제점들을 해결하고자 병렬 서버 구조에 기반을 둔 VOD 서비스에 대한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 기존의 유선 네트워크에서의 병렬 서버 구조에 기반을 둔 스트림 전송에 관한 연구가 일부 진행되어 왔지만 무선 네트워크와 관련해선 그러한 연구가 거의 없으며 있어도 아주 이상적인 경우를 가정하였다. 이동통신의 급속한 발전으로 현재 이동국들은 멀티미디어 서비스를 받을 수 있게 되었으며 앞으로는 이동국들에 제공되는 멀티미디어 서비스 역시 QoS가 보장되어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 무선 모바일 환경에서 병렬 서버 구조를 사용하여 멀티미디어 스트림을 전송함으로서 기지국외 혼잡 상황에도 이동국에서 QoS를 보장할 수 있는 방법을 제시한다. 시뮬레이션 분석 결과를 보면 기지국의 혼잡 상황에서 병렬 서버 구조에 기반을 두고 멀티미디어 스트림을 전송하게 되면 단일 서버로 멀티미디어 스트림을 전송할 때보다 이동국의 수신 상태가 42% 향상됨을 알 수 있다.

  • Changes in internet and network environment make it possible to provide high-quality content services in real time. As demand for digital content is increased, problems related to intellectual property rights are getting more important. Streaming service like video-on-demand solved this problem by preventing content from being saved. But, as the advent of several tools able to save streamed content, the streamed content is not free from these problems any more. So, with security countermeasure like access control, new technologies to control and manage rights for content are needed. One of the solutions is DRM In this paper, we describe a DRM-based streaming service that can send the ASF stream which is the multimedia file format of Microsoft.

Concurrent Channel Time Allocation for Resource Management in WPANs

  • This paper presents a concurrent channel time allocation scheme used in the reservation period for concurrent transmissions in 60-GHz wireless personal area networks (WPANs). To this end, the proposed resource allocation scheme includes an efficient method for creating a concurrent transmission group by using a table that indicates whether individual streams experience interference from other streams or not. The coordinator device calculates the number of streams that can be concurrently transmitted with each stream and groups them together on the basis of the calculation result. Then, the coordinator device allocates resources to each group such that the streams belonging to the same group can transmit data concurrently. Therefore, when the piconet coordinator (PNC) allocates the channel time to the individual groups, it should allow for maximizing the overall capacity. The performance evaluation result demonstrates that the proposed scheme outperforms the random grouping scheme in terms of the overall capacity when the beamwidth is $30^{\circ}C$ and the radiation efficiency is 0.9.

Design and Development of T-DMB Multichannel Audio Service System Based on Spatial Audio Coding

  • In this paper, a terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) multichannel audio broadcasting system based on spatial audio coding is presented. The proposed system provides realistic multichannel audio service via T-DMB with a small increase of data rate as well as backward compatibility with the conventional stereo-based T-DMB player. To reduce the data rate for additional multichannel audio signals, we compress the multichannel audio signals using the sound source location cue coding algorithm, which is an efficient parametric multichannel audio compression technique. For compatibility, we use the dependent property of an elementary stream descriptor, and this property should be ignored in a conventional T-DMB player. To verify the feasibility of the proposed system, we implement the T-DMB multichannel audio encoder and a prototype player. We perform a compatibility test using the T-DMB multichannel audio encoder and conventional T-DMB players. The test demonstrates that the proposed system is compatible with a conventional T-DMB player and that it can provide a promisingly rich audio service.

  • The performance of mobile communication systems depends on the state of the time-varying multi-path fading channel. To effectively prevent the corruption of video stream and its propagation in spatial and temporal domain, proactive error controls are widely being deployed. Among possible candidates, the rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code has been widely used for multimedia data, since its rate can be determined flexibly. In this paper, the adaptive channel estimation and the adaptive error correction techniques over the time-varying mobile channel have been proposed. Extensive computer simulations show that the proposed techniques yield the superior performance than the fixed rate system.

  • 본 논문에서는 PC 기반 지상파 DMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, T-DMB) 수신기를 위한 오류에 견고한 SW 구현에 대해 설명한다. 이 수신기는 PC 외부에 T-DMB 신호를 안테나로 수신하여 복조하고 채널 복호하는 프론트 엔드(front-end) 수신 모듈을 이용, USB를 통하여 RS(Reed-Solomon) 부호화된 MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream) 데이터를 읽어 들여 RS 복호, TS 역다중화, 비디오 보호, 오디오 복호 등의 SW 처리 과정을 거쳐 디스플레이 상에 수신 내용을 표시하게 된다. 수신기가 실용적으로 동작하기 위해서는, 수신된 비트스트림이 예상하지 못한 형태일 때도 오동작하거나 멈춰 서지 않아야 한다. 수신된 비트스트림에는 채널 비트 오류로 인해 훼손된 부분이 있을 수 있으며, 송출 시에 잘못 제작된 비트스트림도 있을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 우선 RS 복호를 수행하여 정정 가능한 범위까지 오류를 정정하고, 검출되었으나 정정하지 못한 오류 또는 비트스트림 제작 시의 오류로 인한 비트스트림 구문 오류를 검출하여 오류 처리를 수행하며, 이로 인한 화질 손상을 숨기기 위해 프리즈 프레임(freeze-frame)을 수행하도록 하였다.

M/B-MC/CDMA performance analysis for high speed data transmission in IS-95 evolution (IS-95 진화방안에서 고속 데이터 전송을 위한 M/B-MC/CDMA 전송방식의 성능분석)

  • In order to provide high speed multimedia data rate service, Multi-Code CDMA has been proposed which converts high speed serial data stream into N parallel low speed data streams with orthogonal PN codes for spreading. However this signal has multi level and causes interferences to be increased at the neighboring cell boundary in the reverse link. Therefore in order to solve the above mentioned problem, M/B-MC/CDMA, in which multi level signal is converted to binary level signal using M/B conversion, is proposed and the performance is compared with MC-CDMA.

Low Power Trace Cache for Embedded Processor

  • Embedded business will be expanded market more and more since customers seek more wearable and ubiquitous systems. Cellular telephones, PDAs, notebooks and portable multimedia devices could bring higher microprocessor revenues and more rewarding improvements in performance and functions. Increasing battery capacity is still creeping along the roadmap. Until a small practical fuel cell becomes available, microprocessor developers must come up with power-reduction methods. According to MPR 2003, the instruction and data caches of ARM920T processor consume $44\%$ of total processor power. The rest of it is split into the power consumptions of the integer core, memory management units, bus interface unit and other essential CPU circuitry. And the relationships among CPU, peripherals and caches may change in the future. The processor working on higher operating frequency will exact larger cache RAM and consume more energy. In this paper, we propose advanced low power trace cache which caches traces of the dynamic instruction stream, and reduces cache access times. And we evaluate the performance of the trace cache and estimate the power of the trace cache, which is compared with conventional cache.

  • MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream)는 DTV(Digital Television), IPTV(Internet Protocol Television), DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) 등 디지털 방송 분야에서 압축된 오디오 및 비디오 데이터를 다중화하는 데에 전 세계적으로 널리 사용되고 있다. MPEG-2 TS 표준이 제정된 것은 1990년대 초반으로서 20여 년이 지난 오늘날의 방송과 통신 환경에 적합하지 않은 부분이 많이 포함되어 있다. 이러한 상황을 고려하여, MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group)에서는 2014년에 MPEG-2 TS를 대체하고자 차세대 멀티미디어 전송 표준으로서 MMT(MPEG Media Transport)를 표준화하였다. 특히 네트워크 환경의 발전에 따라, MMT 표준은 IP 친화적이고 여러 가지 다른 종류의 네트워크를 병용한 멀티미디어 전달이 쉽도록 설계되었다. 본 논문에서는 실시간 방송에 의해 수신되는 MPEG-2 TS로부터 실시간으로 MMTP(MMT Protocol) 스트림을 생성하여 UDP/IP로 유무선 인터넷을 통해 멀티미디어 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하는 시스템을 구현하였다. 이를 위해 MPEG-2 TS 실시간 변환 기능을 갖춘 MMT 스트리밍 서버와 이로부터 서비스를 받을 수 있는 MMT 클라이언트를 구현하고 그 동작을 실험을 통해 검증하였다.
