  • A thermal printing head is used for heat transcription printing of facsimile or printer. The thermal printing head has multilayered thin films and heaters lined up. Thermal analysis of thermal printing head is important for a design of thermal printing head. Since the heating charateristics of thermal printing head is dependent on the thermal conductivities of multilayerd material, this study made numerical analysis for three dimensional transient heat conduction in mutilayered films by the finite difference method and investigated the effect of various thermal conductivities of thin films. The results of this study will be used to design thermal printing head and select the materials for thermal printing head.

  • This paper investigates the parametric instability (PI) of multilayered composite conical shells (MLCCSs) under axial load periodically varying the time, using the first order shear deformation theory (FOSDT). The basic equations for the MLCCSs are derived and then the Galerkin method is used to obtain the ordinary differential equation of the motion. The equation of motion converted to the Mathieu-Hill type differential equation, in which the DI is examined employing the Bolotin's method. The expressions for left and right limits of dimensionless parametric instability regions (PIRs) of MLCCSs based on the FOSDT are obtained. Finally, the influence of various parameters; lay-up, shear deformations (SDs), aspect ratio, as well as loading factors on the borders of the PIRs are examined.

  • Rectangular barrettes have been increasingly used as foundations for many infrastructure projects, but the vertical vibration of a barrette has been rarely addressed theoretically. This paper presents an analysis method of dynamic response for a rectangular barrette subjected to a time-harmonic vertical force with the aid of a modified Vlasov foundation model in multilayered viscoelastic soil. The barrette-soil system is modeled as a continuum, the vertical continuous displacement model for the barrette and soil is proposed. The governing equations of the barrette-soil system and the boundary conditions are obtained and the vertical shaft resistance of barrette is established by employing Hamilton's principle for the system and thin layer element, respectively. The physical meaning of the governing equations and shaft resistance is interpreted. The iterative solution algorithm flow is proposed to obtain the dynamic response of barrette. Good agreement of the analysis and comparison confirms the correctness of the present solution. A parametric study is further used to demonstrate the effects of cross section aspect ratio of barrettes, depth of soil column, and module ratio of substratum to the upper soil layers on the complex barrette-head stiffness and the resistance stiffness.

  • Metal thin films such as aluminum have been used as interconnects in semiconductor device. Recently, these materials are applied to structural materials in microsensors and microactuators. In this study, we evaluate deformation and strength behavior of aluminum alloy film. Three layer model for thermal deformation of multilayered thin film material is introduced and applied to Si/Al(1%Si)/$SiO_2$ system. Based on beam bending theory and concept of bending strain. elastic and elastic/plastic thermal deformation behaviors of multilayered materials can be estimated. In the case of plastic deformation of ductile layer, strain rate equations based on deformation mechanism map are employed for describe the stress relaxation effect. To experimentally examine deformation of multilayered thin film materials, in-situ laser scanning method is used to measure curvature of specimens during heating and cooling. The thickness of $SiO_2$ layer is varied to estimate third-layer effect of thermal deformation of metal films, and its effect on deformation behavior are discussed.

  • Solid-state reactions in Ni/Si multilayered films (MLF) with an overall stoichiometry of $Ni_2Si$, NiSi and $NiSi_2$, induced by ion-beam mixing (IBM) and thermal annealing, were studied by using spectroscopic ellipsometry and magneto-optical spectroscopy as well as x-ray diffraction (XRD). The mixing was performed with Ar+ ions of an energy of 80 keV and a dose of $1.5 x\times10^{16}$ $Ar^+$/$\textrm{cm}^2$. It was shown that the IBM induces structural changes in the Ni/Si MLF, which cannot be detected by XRD but are confidently recognized by the optical method. A thermal annealing at 673 K of the Ni/Si MLF with an overall stoichiometry of NiSi and $NiSi_2$ causes formation of the first η -NiSi phase. The first trace for $NiSi_2$ phase on the background of NiSi one was detected by XRD after an annealing at 1073 K while, according to the optical results, $NiSi_2$ turns out be the dominant phase for the annealed Ni/Si MLF with an overall stoichiometry of $NiSi_2$.

  • Ploycrystalline $Pb(Zr_{0.5},Ti_{0.5))O_3$ and $BaTiO_3$ powder were prepared by sol-gel process. The alumina substrate were sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ with bottom electrode of Pt for 2 hours. The Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 / BaTiO3 multilayered thick films with laminating times were fabricated on alumina substrate by screening printing method. The obtained thick films were sintered at $800^{\circ}C$ with upper electrode of Ag paste for 1 hour. Structural properties of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 / BaTiO3 multilayered thick films were investigated. As a result of the Differential Thermal Analysis(DTA) of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3, exothermic peak was observed at around 650 $^{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicated that BaTiO3 and Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 phases and porosities were formed in the interface of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 / BaTiO3multilayered thick films.

  • The structure and magnetic properties of Fe-Ni-N/Cu multilayered films, prepared by the DC magnetron sputter, as a function of different thicknesses of Fe-Ni-N ($t_{FeNiN}$) and Cu ($t_Cu$) layers have been studied by the methods of x-ray diffraction and measurement of magnetic moment. It has been found that the enhancement of (200) orientation in Fe-Ni-N layers is observed at the ratio of layer thickness with about $t_{FeNiN}/t_{Cu}$ $\underline{\simeq}$ 3.75. The reduction of magnetization due to the formation of interdiffusion near the interface is explained by means of the dead layer model. The temperature dependence of magnetization exhibits the feature of Blochs $T^{\frac{2}{3}}$ law. The layer thickness dependence of Curie temperature has been discussed by critical temperature theory of Heisenberg model.
