Comparison Between Core Affect Dimensional Structures of Different Ages using Representational Similarity Analysis (표상 유사성 분석을 이용한 연령별 얼굴 정서 차원 비교)

  • Previous emotion studies employing facial expressions have focused on the differences between age groups for each of the emotion categories. Instead, Kim (2021) has compared representations of facial expressions in the lower-dimensional emotion space. However, he reported descriptive comparisons without statistical significance testing. This research used representational similarity analysis (Kriegeskorte et al., 2008) to directly compare empirical datasets from young, middle-aged, and old groups and conceptual models. In addition, individual differences multidimensional scaling (Carroll & Chang, 1970) was conducted to explore individual weights on the emotional dimensions for each age group. The results revealed that the old group was the least similar to the other age groups in the empirical datasets and the valence model. In addition, the arousal dimension was the least weighted for the old group compared to the other groups. This study directly tested the differences between the three age groups in terms of empirical datasets, conceptual models, and weights on the emotion dimensions.

Affective Representation and Consistency Across Individuals Responses to Affective Videos (정서 영상에 대한 정서표상 및 개인 간 반응 일관성)

  • This study examined the affective representation and response consistency among individuals using affective videos, a naturalistic stimulus inducing emotional experiences most similar to those in daily life. In this study, multidimensional scaling was conducted to investigate whether the various affective representations induced through video stimuli are located in the core affect dimensions. A cross-participant classification analysis was also performed to verify whether the video stimuli are well classified. Additionally, the newly developed intersubject correlation analysis was conducted to assess the consistency of affective representations across participant responses. Multidimensional scaling revealed that the video stimuli are represented well in the valence dimension, partially supporting Russell (1980)'s core affect theory. The classification results showed that affective conditions were successfully classified across participant responses. Moreover, the intersubject correlation analysis showed that the consistency of affective representations to video stimuli differed with respect to the condition. This study suggests that the affective representations and consistency of individual responses to affective videos varied across different affective conditions.

The Classification and Interpretation of Korean Soils Derived from Sedimentary Rocks using Multidimensional Scaling (다차원척도법을 이용한 우리나라 퇴적암 유래토양의 분류 및 해설)

  • It is very important to characterize five major properties of topography, drainage class, soil texture, available soil depth, and gravel content for soil survey. We used multidimensional scaling method for analyzing five major properties for the soils originated from sedimentary rocks to understand their relationships. We simplified 5 major characteristics on soils derived from sedimentary rocks. That is, topographic factor was 15 to 9, soil texture was 32 to 6, drainage class was 6 to 5, available depth was 4, and gravel content was 3. For the viewpoint of eigenvector, from dimension 2, 3 to dimension 1, 4, mountain soils and more fine soils dominated. By eigenvalue, there was no tendency, but in details, was some tendency between small groups. Like this, closely observe exceptional distribution of soils, we need improved intra-group homogeneity based on weight control of soil factor, addition and subtraction of soil factors. Also, we carefully analyzed soil characteristics involved intra-group, then we need reconsideration of past classification units.

Multidimensional Scaling Using the Pseudo-Points Based on Partition Method (분할법에 의한 가상점을 활용한 다차원척도법)

  • Multidimensional scaling (MDS) is a graphical technique of multivariate analysis to display dissimilarities among individuals into low-dimensional space. We often have two kinds of MDS which are metric MDS and non-metric MDS. Metric MDS can be applied to quantitative data; however, we need additional information about variables because it only shows relationships among individuals. Gower (1992) proposed a method that can represent variable information using trajectories of the pseudo-points for quantitative variables on the metric MDS space. We will call his method a 'replacement method'. However, the trajectory can not be represented even though metric MDS can be applied to binary data when we apply his method to binary data. Therefore, we propose a method to represent information of binary variables using pseudo-points called a 'partition method'. The proposed method partitions pseudo-points, accounting both the rate of zeroes and ones. Our metric MDS using the proposed partition method can show the relationship between individuals and variables for binary data.

Affective Representations of Basic Tastes and Intensity using Multivariate Analyses (다변량분석방법을 이용한 미각 자극의 기본 맛과 강도에 따른 정서표상 )

  • According to the core affect theory, affect consists of two independent dimensions of valence and arousal. Previous studies have found that various types of stimuli, such as pictures, videos, and music, are mapped onto the core affect space. However, the research on affect using gustatory stimuli has not been explored sufficiently. This study investigated whether the affects elicited by tastes could be mapped onto the core affect space. Stimuli were selected based on two factors (taste types and intensity). Participants were presented with each stimulus, evaluated the tastes, and rated their affective responses on taste and emotion scales. The data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVAs and multivariate analyses (multidimensional scaling and classification). The results of univariate analyses indicated that participants felt positive for sweet stimuli but negative for bitter and salty. Furthermore, participants reported high arousal with high intensity. Multidimensional scaling revealed that taste stimuli are also represented on the core affect dimensions. Specifically, it was confirmed that in the first dimension, sweetness was represented as a positive affect, while bitter and salty tastes were represented as a negative affect. In the second dimension, bitterness was represented as low arousal and sourness as high arousal. Classification analyses confirmed that the taste was identified consistently based on the affective responses within and across participants. This study showed that the taste stimuli in daily life are also located on core affect dimensions of valence and arousal.

Affective Representation of Behavioral and Physiological Responses to Emotional Videos using Wearable Devices (웨어러블 기구를 이용한 영상 자극에 대한 행동 및 생리적 정서 표상)

  • This study examined affective representation by analyzing physiological responses measured using wearable devices and affective ratings in response to emotional videos. To achieve this aim, a published dataset was reanalyzed using multidimensional scaling to demonstrate affective representation in two dimensions. Cross-participant classification was also conducted to identify the consistency of emotional responses across participants. The accuracy and misclassification in each emotional condition were described by exploring the confusion matrix derived from the classification analysis. Multidimensional scaling revealed that the represented objects, namely, emotional videos, were positioned along the rated valence and arousal vectors, supporting the core affect theory (Russell, 1980). Vector fittings of physiological responses also showed the associations between heart rate acceleration and low arousal, increased heart rate variability and negative and high arousal, and increased electrodermal activity and negative and low arousal. Using the data of behavioral and physiological responses across participants, the classification results revealed that emotional videos were more accurately classified than the chance level of classification. The confusion matrix showed that awe, enthusiasm, and liking, which were categorized as positive, low arousal emotions in this study, were less accurately classified than the other emotions and were misclassified for each other. Through multivariate analyses, this study confirms the core affect theory using physiological responses measured through wearable devices and affective ratings in response to emotional videos.

  • 다차원선호분석(mutidimensional preference analysis)은 여러 상품들에 대한 개인(또는 그룹)의 선호도를 알아보기 위한 분석방법으로 결과는 보통 2차원 그림으로 제공된다. 본 연구에서는 의미있는 두 가지 최적척도 기준을 제안하고 이와 연관된 행 및 열표시자를 유도하고 있으며, 아울러 사전지식을 반영하기 위해 부분수량화를 다차원선호분석에 도입하는 방법을 제시한다. 또한 본 연구에서 제시한 다차원분석기법들을 실제 인터넷 검색엔진에 대한 선호도 자료에 적용한다.

A Study on the Cognition Distance of Separately Shelved Items by Multi-dimensional Scaling Analysis in Children's Libraries (다차원척도법을 이용한 어린이도서관 별치 자료에 대한 인지 거리 연구)

  • This study conducted a survey to measure recognition distance between the materials which are located separately in a children's library targeting 200 elementary school lower grade students, higher grade students, and school parents(adults). And compared recognition distance between the elements of materials of individual visitor group with multidimensional scaling and K-mean group analysis. Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) is a technique for projecting the cognitive state in space by evaluating the similarity or attribute of the analysis target. Even though it is mainly used for market diagnosis in marketing, It can also be applied to present an ideal physical layout plan by analyzing the distance. As a result of analysis, the main discoveries are as follows. First, elementary school students cognize child, baby and computer materials should be adjacent as a same group. But recognition of adults(school parents) is reflected by differing from elementary school students vastly. They cognize that computer materials should be formed as a special group separated from child and baby's materials. Second, elementary school higher graders and adults(school parents) groups also want to separate their main reading materials from baby's book, therefore They both want to secure silent reading space separating from baby. Third, as a result to confirming how this recognition distance system of materials is reflected in a real children's library through three children's libraries in Y-gu, Incheon, there is no library with structure according perfectly with a recognition system of a particular class, but a recognition system of adults and elementary school students is partially reflected because baby, child and computer materials, and baby and child materials are commonly separated and placed. It is difficult to insist that a recognition system of a visitor group, especially a recognition system of children is absolute consideration conditions in material placement of a children's library. However, understanding cognition of the user groups can be an important evidentiary factors to offer differentiated service space according to visitors and effective placement of the elements of library resources.

  • Following the heightened facilitation of information system in the education field, educational institutions encounter frequent information security infringement accidents. However there is insufficient education for persons in charge of information security duties in educational institutions. This study aims to analyze differences of knowledge and skills required for information security professionals in educational institutions by institution type, service area and duty. Based on the results of multidimensional scaling on survey data, this study presents the information security education framework for educational institutions.
