  • Quasi-equilibrium profiles are analyzed through galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) and potentiostatic intermittent titration technique (PITT) to study the charge/discharge mechanism in multicomponent olivine structure ($LiMn_{1/3}Fe_{1/3}Co_{1/3}PO_4$). From GITT data, the degree of polarization is evaluated for the three regions corresponding to the redox couples of $Mn^{2+}/Mn^{3+}$, $Fe^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ and $Co^{2+}/Co^{3+}$. From PITT data, the current vs. time responses are examined in each titration step to find out the mode of lithium de-intercalation/intercalation process. Furthermore, lithium diffusivities at specific compositions (x in $Li_xMn_{1/3}Fe_{1/3}Co_{1/3}PO_4$) are also calculated. Finally, total capacity ($Q^{total}$) and diffusional capacity ($Q^{diff}$) are obtained for some selected voltage steps. The entire study consistently confirms that the charge/discharge mechanism of multicomponent olivine cathode is associated with a one-phase reaction rather than a biphasic reaction.

  • An improved mass spectrometric method for multicomponent analysis of metabolites in urine, well-suited for clinical biochemistry, is described. The method involves solvent elution of the metabolites from an adsorbent and the concentration of the eluate on a microadsorption column. This is administered by a direct inlet probe into the ionizing source of field ionization mass spectrometry (FIMS), which yield a molecular weight profile of the metabolites. The procedure provides rapidly (within one hour) reproducible profiles from a small volume of urine. The optimization of the sampling technique and the reproducibility are discussed.

  • In this paper, the dispersion controlled dissipative (DCD) scheme is reviewed and then extended to simulate chemically reacting gas flows in multicomponent mixtures in the presence of strong shock waves. Furthermore, the properties of the reactive DCD (DCD-R) scheme are discussed, followed by several applications. The DCD scheme has been shown to have the following features: high accuracy and robustness for reacting gas flows in the presence of strong shock waves and contact discontinuities, and algorithmic simplicity.

  • The present study focuses mainly on modeling the ordinary diffusion flux of species. According to CHEMKIN, both the mixture-averaged approach, Fick's formula, and the full multicomponent approach are implemented in the framework of opensource OpenFOAM. Also the Stefan-Maxwell approach is coded and validated together against measurements of laminar hydrogen jet flame. In the case of viscosity and conductivity of mixture, the mixture-averaged approach is applied and thermal diffusion is not considered in this work. Results show that there are no distinct deviations in three different approaches of diffusion of species in the present hydrogen flame condition.

  • Continuous thermodynamics has been applied for modeling of phase equilibria in multicomponent mixtures, to avoid disadvantages of the pseudo-component and key-component method. In this paper continuous thermodynamic relations formulated by using the Pate-Teja equation of state were adopted for calculations of phase equilibria in natural gas mixtures, crude oil mixtures and mixtures extracted by supercritical $CO_2$ fluids. Calculations of phase equilibria were performed by two procedures ; a moment method coupled with the beta distribution function and a quadrature method combined with Gaussian-Legendre polynomials. Calculated results were compared with experimental data. It was showed that continuous thermodynamic frameworks considered in this paper were well-matched to experimental data.

  • Multicomponent seismic data including both P- and PS-waves have advantages in discriminating the type of pore fluid, characterizing the lithologic attributes and producing the high resolution image. However, multicomponent seismic data recorded at the vertical and horizontal component receivers contain both P- and PS-waves which have different features, simultaneously. Therefore, the wavefield separation of P- and PS-waves as a preprocessing is inevitable in order to use the multicomponent seismic data successfully. In this study, we analyzed the previous study of the wavefield separation method suggested by Jeong and Byun in 2011, where the approximated reflection angle calculated only from one refernce depth is used in rotation transform, and showed its limitation for seismic data containing various reflected events from the multi-layered structure. In order to overcome its limitation, we suggested a new effective wavefield separation method of P- and PS-waves. In new method, we calculate the reflection angles with various reference depths and apply rotation transforms to the data with those reflection angles. Then we stack all results to obtain the final separated data. To verify our new method, we applied it to the synthetic data sets from a multi-layered model, a fault model, and the Marmousi-2 model. The results showed that the proposed method separated successfully P- and PS-reflection events from the multicomponent data from mild dipping layered model as long as the dip is not too steep.

  • Recently, exploration and development of oil sands are thriving due to high oil price. Because oil sands reservoir usually exists as a thin layer, multicomponent VSP, which has the advantage of the high-resolution around the borehole, is more effective than surface seismic survey in exploring oil sand reservoir. In addition, prestack phase-screen migration is effective for multicomponent seismic data because it is based on an one-way wave equation. In this study, we examined the applicability of the prestack phase-screen migration for multicomponent RVSP data to image the thin oil sand reservoir. As a preprocessing tool, we presented a method for separating P-wave and PS-wave from multicomponent RVSP data by using incidence angle and rotation matrix. To verify it, we have applied the developed wavefield separation method to synthetic data obtained from the velocity model including a horizontal layer and dipping layers. Also, we compared the migrated image by using P-wave with that by using PS-wave. As a result, the PS-wave migrated image has higher resolution and wide coverage than P-wave migrated image. Finally, we have applied the prestack phase-screen migration to the synthetic data from the velocity model simulating oil sand reservoir in Canada. The results show that the PS-wave migrated image describe the top and bottom boundaries of the thin oil sand reservoir more clearly than the P-wave migrated image.

  • Consider the problem of estimating the reliability of a multicomponent stress-strength system which functions if at least r of the k identical components simultaneously function. All stresses and strengths are assumed to be independent random variables with two parameter Weibull distributions. First, we derive reference priors and probability matching priors which are noninformative priors. We next investigate sufficient conditions for propriety of posteriors under reference priors and probability matching priors. Finally, we provide, using these priors, some numerical results for Bayes estimates of the reliability by applying Gibbs sampling technique.

  • Chemical compositions of polydisperse SiO$_2$/TiO$_2$multicomponent aggregates were measured for different heights from the burner surface and different mobility diameters of aggregates. SiO$_2$/TiO$_2$multicomponent particles were generated in a hydrogen/oxygen coflow diffusion flame from two sets of precursors: TTIP(titanium tetraisopropoxide), TEOS(tetraethylorthosilicate). To maintain 1:1 mole ratio of TTIP:TEOS vapor, flow rate of carrier gas $N_2$was fixed at 0.6lpm for TTIP, at 0.1lpm for TEOS. In-situ sampling probe was used to supply particles into DMA(differential mobility analyzer) which was calibrated with using commercial DMA(TSI, model 3071A) and classifying monodisperse multicomponent particles. Classified monodisperse particles were collected with electrophoretic collector. The distributions of composition from particles to particle were determined using EDS(energy dispersive spectrometry) coupled with TEM(transmission electron microscope). The chemical(atomic) compositions of classified monodisperse particle were obtained for different heights; z=40mm, 60mm, 80mm. The results suggested that the chemical(atomic) composition of SiO$_2$decreased with the height from burner surface and the composition of SiO$_2$and TiO$_2$approached to the value of 1 to 1 fat downstream. It is also found that the composition of SiO$_2$decreases as the mobility diameter of aggregate increases.
