Application of Disease Resistance Markers for Developing Elite Tomato Varieties and Lines

  • Using the abundant available information about the tomato genome, we developed DNA markers that are linked to disease resistant loci and performed marker-assisted selection (MAS) to construct multi-disease resistant lines and varieties. Resistance markers of Ty-1, T2, and I2, which are linked to disease resistance to Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), and Fusarium wilt, respectively, were developed in a co-dominant fashion. DNA sequences near the resistance loci of TYLCV, ToMV, and Fusarium wilt were used for primer design. Reported candidate markers for powdery mildew-resistance were screened and the 32.5Cla marker was selected. All four markers (Ty-1, T2, I2, and 32.5Cla) were converted to cleavage amplification polymorphisms (CAPS) markers. Then, the CAPS markers were applied to 96 tomato lines to determine the phenetic relationships among the lines. This information yielded clusters of breeding lines illustrating the distribution of resistant and susceptible characters among lines. These data were utilized further in a MAS program for several generations, and a total of ten varieties and ten inbred lines were constructed. Among four traits, three were introduced to develop varieties and breeding lines through the MAS program; several cultivars possessed up to seven disease resistant traits. These resistant trait-related markers that were developed for the tomato MAS program could be used to select early stage seedlings, saving time and cost, and to construct multi-disease resistant lines and varieties.

실시간 피부 변형 제어를 위한 근육 변형 모델 (Muscle Deformation Model for Real-Time Skin Deformation Control)

  • 본 논문에서는 실제 근육의 해부학적 특징에 근거한 모델을 설계하고, 근육의 모양이 골격의 움직임에 따라서 변화하는 실시간 시뮬레이션 기법을 제시한다. 근육 모델은 골격 혹은 다른 근육의 양 끝 점에 부착되는 위치와 방위에 따라서 부피가 유지되도록 변형된다. 근육 변형의 결과는 간단한 스키닝을 통해서 실제 피부 변형의 결과로 이어져 관찰된다. 실제 인체와 유사하게 모델링된 다관절 캐릭터의 수행 성능을 제시한다. 실험적 결과에 따르면 수십개의 모델링된 근육을 골격 운동에 따라서 실시간에 변형할 수 있다. 따라서 빠른 수행속도에 일정한 품질을 요구하는 게임 등과 같은 실시간 제어 환경에 등장하는 다관절 캐릭터를 제어하는데 효과적으로 사용될 수 있다.

스피로피란 기반 친수성 가교제를 활용한 다중 자극 감응형 하이드로젤 (Multi-responsive hydrogel cross-linked synthesized spiropyran-based hydrophilic cross-linker)

  • 온도, pH, 빛 및 힘 등의 외부 자극에 반응하여 그 구조나 물리 화학적 특성이 변화 가능한 자극 감응형 하이드로젤에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 응력 감응형 분자인 스피로피란을 사용하여 응력 및 pH 감응형 하이드로젤을 제조하였다. 먼저, 폴리에틸렌 다이아크릴레이트(PEGDA)를 스피로피란 분자 양 끝에 접목시켜, 수용액에 쉽게 용해될 뿐만 아니라 하이드로젤 가교제 역할이 가능한 아령모양(PEG-spiropyran-PEG)의 SP-PEGDA 분자를 합성하였다. 이렇게 합성한 SP-PEGDA로 가교된 하이드로젤은 팽윤에 의해 발생하는 내부 응력에 의해 노란색의 스피로피란(SP) 분자를 보라색의 메로사인(MC) 형태로 변환시켰다. 또한 pH에 따라 양성화된 메로사인(MCH) 형태로 변환하여 팽윤과 수축을 시각화 하였다.

다중 대역 전송 시스템을 위한 전치왜곡 알고리즘 (Digital Predistortion for Multi-band/Multi-mode Transmission Systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 다중 대역 전송 시스템에서 광대역 전력 증폭기의 선형화를 위한 새로운 전치왜곡 기법을 제안한다. 특히, 한 시스템에서 동시에 다중대역/다중모드 신호를 전송함에 있어 다중대역 신호가 하나의 전력 증폭기에 의해 증폭되어 전송되는 시스템을 고려한다. 상호 대역 간 비선형 왜곡을 포함한 비선형 특성을 보상하기 위하여, 본 논문에서는 다중 전치왜곡기 블록을 갖는 새로운 전치왜곡 구조를 제안하며, 다중 전치왜곡기의 계수를 동시에 갱신하는 적응 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안하는 다중 대역 모델을 검증하기 위하여 상용 증폭기를 사용하여 증폭기 모델을 추출하였으며, 추출된 모델을 기반으로 제안한 알고리즘을 모의실험을 통해 검증하였다. 모의실험 결과는 제안 알고리즘이 효과적으로 다중 전치왜곡기의 계수를 구할 수 있으며, 다중 대역을 효과적으로 선형화 할 수 있음을 보여준다.

Deciphering the Core Metabolites of Fanconi Anemia by Using a Multi-Omics Composite Network

  • Deciphering the metabolites of human diseases is an important objective of biomedical research. Here, we aimed to capture the core metabolites of Fanconi anemia (FA) using the bioinformatics method of a multi-omics composite network. Based on the assumption that metabolite levels can directly mirror the physiological state of the human body, we used a multi-omics composite network that integrates six types of interactions in humans (gene-gene, disease phenotype-phenotype, disease-related metabolite-metabolite, gene-phenotype, gene-metabolite, and metabolite-phenotype) to procure the core metabolites of FA. This method is applicable in predicting and prioritizing disease candidate metabolites and is effective in a network without known disease metabolites. In this report, we first singled out the differentially expressed genes upon different groups that were related with FA and then constructed the multi-omics composite network of FA by integrating the aforementioned six networks. Ultimately, we utilized random walk with restart (RWR) to screen the prioritized candidate metabolites of FA, and meanwhile the co-expression gene network of FA was also obtained. As a result, the top 5 metabolites of FA were tenormin (TN), guanosine 5'-triphosphate, guanosine 5'-diphosphate, triphosadenine (DCF) and adenosine 5'-diphosphate, all of which were reported to have a direct or indirect relationship with FA. Furthermore, the top 5 co-expressed genes were CASP3, BCL2, HSPD1, RAF1 and MMP9. By prioritizing the metabolites, the multi-omics composite network may provide us with additional indicators closely linked to FA.

서남부지역 수자원의 효율적 이용방안 (A Practical Research for More Efficient Utilization of Water Resources in the South-Western Part of Korea)

  • The south-western part of Korea is situated in an unbalance of water supply and demand relating to the Keum, Mankyung, Dongjin and Youngsan River and their estuary reservoirs. For example, the Keum River estuary reservoir is discharging the larger amount of yearly runoff into the sea due to the small storage capacity, while Saemankeum estuary reservoir which is under construction, has the smaller runoff amount comparing with its storage capacity, And the downstream area of the Youngsan River, such as Youngkwang, Youngam are deficient in water due in larger demand and smaller supply. In order to solve the above unbalanced water supply and demand and also to improve the water use efficiency, the Hierarchical Operation Model for Multi-reservoir System(HOMMS) has been developed and applied to analyze the multi-reservoir operation assuming that the above reservoirs were linked each other. The result of this study shows that 2,148MCM of annual additional water requirement for agricultural and rural water demands are required in this region at 2011 of target year, and these demands can be resolved by diverting and reusing 1,913MCM of the released water from the estuary reservoirs into the sea.

다변수 최적화 기법을 이용한 자동차용 고분자전해질형 연료전지 시스템 모델링에 관한 연구 (A Study of Modeling PEM Fuel Cell System Using Multi-Variable Optimization Technique for Automotive Applications)

  • This study presents the integrated modeling approach to simulate the proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system for vehicle application. The fuel cell system consisting of stack and balance of plant (BOP) was simulated with MATLAB/Simulink environment to estimate the maximum system power and investigate the effect of BOP component sizing on system performance and efficiency. The PEM fuel cell stack model was established by using a semi-empirical modeling. To maximize the net efficiency of fuel cel1 system, multi-variable optimization code was adopted. Using this method the optimized operating values were obtained according to various system net power levels. The fuel cell model established was co-linked to AVL CRUISE, a vehicle simulation package. Through the vehicle simulation software, the fuel economy of fuel cell powered electric vehicle for two types of driving cycles was presented and compared. It is expected that this study tan be effectively employed in the basic BOP component sizing and in establishing system operation map with respect to net power level of fuel cell system.

  • Numerical study is presented for the analysis of three-dimensional incompressible turbulent flows in multiblade centrifugal fan. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with standard k - $\epsilon$ turbulence model are transformed to non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates, and are discretized with finite volume approximations. Linear Upwind Differencing Scheme(LUDS) is used to approximate the convection terms in the governing equations. SIMPLEC algorithm is used as a velocity-pressure correction procedure. The computational area is divided into three blocks; core, impeller and scroll, which are linked by multi-block method. The flow inside of the fan is regarded as steady flow, and mathematical formula established from the cascade theory and empirical coefficient are employed to simulate tile flow through the impeller. From comparisons between the computational results and the experimental data, the validity of the mathematical formula for the blade forces was examined and good results were obtained qualitatively. Hence, we can get the flow characteristics of multi-blade centrifugal fan and it will be a corner stone of the development of the multiblade centrifugal fan.

Realistic simulation of reinforced concrete structural systems with combine of simplified and rigorous component model

  • This study presents the efficiency of simulating structural systems using a method that combines a simplified component model (SCM) and rigorous component model (RCM). To achieve a realistic simulation of structural systems, a numerical model must be adequately capturing the detailed behaviors of real systems at various scales. However, capturing all details represented within an entire structural system by very fine meshes is practically impossible due to technological limitations on computational engineering. Therefore, this research develops an approach to simulate large-scale structural systems that combines a simplified global model with multiple detailed component models adjusted to various scales. Each correlated multi-scale simulation model is linked to others using a multi-level hierarchical modeling simulation method. Simulations are performed using nonlinear finite element analysis. The proposed method is applied in an analysis of a simple reinforced concrete structure and the Reuipu Elementary School (an existing structure), with analysis results then compared to actual onsite observations. The proposed method obtained results very close to onsite observations, indicating the efficiency of the proposed model in simulating structural system behavior.
