Vibration Control of a Flexible Two-link Manipulator based on the Sliding Mode Control (슬라이딩 모우드 제어에 기초한 유연한 2링크 조작기의 진동제어)

  • In order to not only perform as a extreme model under the severe operating condition but also acquire more diverse and advanced control capability utilizing high compliance, active vibration control of a flexible 2-link robot manipulator are investigated. Multi variable-structured frequency shaped optimal sliding mode is proposed for the flexible robot manipulator like control system, whose control variables, an angular motion of joint and vibration of flexible link, have to be controlled simultaneously by one control torque at a driving joint. The control system is divided into two subsystems, a control input related subsystem and an added subsystem. The proposed sliding mode, composed of multi control variables, makes optimized relation between subsystems and a individual control input, thus, the sliding mode controller can compensate whole dynamics of each subsystems simultaneously. And the possibility and effectiveness are verified by vibration control of a manipulator having two flexible links. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed control scheme achieves the purpose effectively.

Multi-Phase Model Update for System Identification of PSC Girders under Various Prestress Forces

  • This paper presents a multi-phase model update approach for system identification of prestressed concrete (PSC) girders under various prestress forces. First, a multi-phase model update approach designed on the basis of eigenvalue sensitivity concept is newly proposed. Next, the proposed multi-phase approach is evaluated from controlled experiments on a lab-scale PSC girder for which forced vibration tests are performed for a series of prestress forces. On the PSC girder, a few natural frequencies and mode shapes are experimentally measured for the various prestress forces. The corresponding modal parameters are numerically calculated from a three-dimensional finite element (FE) model which is established for the target PSC girder. Eigenvalue sensitivities are analyzed for potential model-updating parameters of the FE model. Then, structural subsystems are identified phase-by-phase using the proposed model update procedure. Based on model update results, the relationship between prestress forces and model-updating parameters is analyzed to evaluate the influence of prestress forces on structural subsystems.

  • MSC is being developed to be installed on KOMPSAT(Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-II and to provide high resolution multi-spectral. MSC consists of three main subsystems. One is EOS(Electro-Optics Subsystem), another is PMU(Payload Management Unit) and the other is PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem). There is an SBC(Single Board Computer) in the PMU to control all MSC subsystems. SBC incorporates Intel 80486 as a main processor and VxWorks as a real-time operating system. SBC software consists of four main tasks and several modules to deal with all control information for imaging and all the state of health telemetrv data, and to perform interface with another MSC units. SBC software also has to handle a lot of commands in order for MSC to perform his mission.   • Most rail system related simulators currently used are designed to simulate only one discipline system. This obviously assumes the other discipline systems are running regularly not being affected by the system being simulated. In this paper a multi discipline simulator is proposed and its design concept is presented. A multi discipline simulator is the simulator in which major subsystems with different technical discipline are simulated simultaneously. The advantage of the simulator is in that it makes it possible to analyze the systems behavior while other discipline system vary. With this we can identify the possible multi-discipline problems and even find their solutions. A proto type simulator has been developed using object oriented programming. Object concept was judged best suitable to model the various multi-discipline self-controlling railway subsystems. It was applied to the target system, which is under development by the Korea Railroad Research Institute. The test results shows it is very useful in designn verification. It could also be a good tool in research and development work to improve the system.

  • Parallel lines are often used to increase production rate in many manufacturing systems where the main line splits into several lines in parallel, and after some operations, they merge into a main line again. Queueing networks with finite buffers have been widely used for modeling and analyzing manufacturing systems. This paper provides an approximation technique for multi-server two-stage networks with merge configuration and blocking which will be a building block for analysis of general manufacturing systems with parallel lines and merge configuration. The main idea of the method is to decompose the original system into subsystems that have two service stations with multiple servers, two buffers and external arrivals to the second stage are allowed. The subsystems are modeled by level dependent quasi-birth-and-death (LDQBD) process.

  • MSC(Multispectral Camera), which will be a unique payload on KOMPSAT-II, is designed to collect panchromatic and multi-spectral imagery with a ground sample distance of 1m and a swath width of 15km at 685km altitude in sun-synchronous orbit. The instrument is designed to have an orbit operation duty cycle of 20% over the mission life time of 3 years. MSC electronics consists of three main subsystems; PMU(Payload Management Unit), CEU(Camera Electronics Unit) and PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem). PMU performs all the interface between spacecraft and MSC, and manages all the other subsystems by sending commands to them and receiving telemetry from them with software protocol through RS-422 interface. CEU controls FPA(Focal Plane Assembly) which contains TDI(Timc Delay Integration) CCD(Charge Coupled Device) and its clock drivers. PMU provides a Master Clock to synchronize panchromatic and multispectral camera. PDTS performs compression, storage and encryption of image data and transmits them to the ground station through x-band.

New Hypervisor Improving Network Performance for Multi-core CE Devices

  • Recently, system virtualization has been applied to consumer electronics (CE) such as smart mobile phones. Although multi-core processors have become a viable solution for complex applications of consumer electronics, the issue of utilizing multi-core resources in the virtualization layer has not been researched sufficiently. In this paper, we present a new hypervisor design and implementation for multi-core CE devices. We concretely describe virtualization methods for a multi-core processor and multi-core-related subsystems. We also analyze bottlenecks of network performance in a virtualization environment that supports multimedia applications and propose an efficient virtual interrupt distributor. Our new multi-core hypervisor improves network performance by 5.5 times as compared to a hypervisor without the virtual interrupt distributor.

Compact AUV platform system designed for the experiment of underwater multi-agent development

  • The underwater multi-agent technology has many potential for the various activities related to ocean development/conservation in the near future. For example, in such fields as water pollution investigation, aquaculture control, or coral reef research, we feel a growing need for a system that realizes underwater continuous monitoring in the wide rang e. In this case, the target monitoring area will be sliced planar hierarchically toward the depth as monitoring layers, and many AUVs arranged on each layer track the given trajectory and gather various environmental information continuously, with communicating each other in the layer or with other layers. To realize those systems we need to develop AUV multi-agent technologies. So we are now building basic systems for basin experiment for the development of AUV multi-agent behavior. We must experience many situations and problems to be solved for the development of its elemental technologies by using real systems as well as our computer simulations. In this paper we introduce our concept of the experiment in the near future and the hardware/software design of our two types of handy AUVs and ultrasound ranging/communication system for that experiment. One AUV is designed using a 17inches-diameter glass sphere with DOS/V and RT-Linux based subsystems, which is intended to use not only in the basin but also in the calm real sea. The other AUV is designed for the basin experiment using a 7inches-diameter acrylic sphere with low-cost embedded system with SH-2 based subsystems. The basin experiment to verify the basic AUV facilities and ultrasound ranging for position detection was carried out.

Reliability Analysis of Multi-Component System Considering Preventive Maintenance: Application of Markov Chain Model (예방정비를 고려한 복수 부품 시스템의 신뢰성 분석: 마코프 체인 모형의 응용)

  • Purpose: We introduce ways to employ Markov chain model to evaluate the effect of preventive maintenance process. While the preventive maintenance process decreases the failure rate of each subsystems, it increases the downtime of the system because the system can not work during the maintenance process. The goal of this paper is to introduce ways to analyze this trade-off. Methods: Markov chain models are employed. We derive the availability of the system consisting of N repairable subsystems by the methods under various maintenance policies. Results: To validate our methods, we apply our models to the real maintenance data reports of military truck. The error between the model and the data was about 1%. Conclusion: The models developed in this paper fit real data well. These techniques can be applied to calculate the availability under various preventive maintenance policies.
