  • For the precise analysis of high velocity impact problem though FEM with element erosive method, the adequate mesh size and critical equivalent plastic strain(EQPS) is chosen prior to the simulation. In this research, it is strongly required from a standpoint that critical EQPS is used to decide whether perforation occurs or not. The optimization of dual armor plate consisting of 4340 steel and 2024 aluminium against a die steel sphere with high-velocity has been suggested using Lagrangian explicit time-integration code, NET2D. The response surface method based on the design of experiment is utilized for the size optimization. The optimized thickness of each layer, in which perforation does not occur, the strength of multi-layer is maximized and total weight is minimized, is obtained at a constant velocity of a pellet with a designated total thickness.

Process Optimization for Co-based Self-flux Alloy Coating by Taguchi Method (다구찌 기법에 의한 코발트기 자융성합금 용사코팅의 최적공정 설계)

  • This paper describes process optimization for thermal-sprayed Co-based self-flux alloy coating by Taguchi method. Co-based self-flux alloy coatings were fabricated according to $L_9(3^4)$ orthogonal array using flame spray process. Hardness test and wear test were performed, the results were analyzed by analysis of variance(ANOVA) considering a multi response signal to noise ratio(MRSN). From the results of ANOVA, the optimal combination of the flame spray parameters on Co-based self-flux alloy coating could be predicted. The calculated hardness and wear rate of the coatings by ANOVA were found to be close to that of confirmation experimental result.

  • This paper presents a "window-zoom-out" optimization strategy with relatively fewer sampling data. In this method, an optimal Latin hypercube sampling experiment based on multi-objective Pareto optimization is developed to obtain the sampling data. The response surface method with multiquadric radial basis function combined with (1+$\lambda$) evolution strategy is used to find the global optimal point. The proposed method is verified with numerical experiments.

  • Optimization using a hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm coupled with response surface approximation has been performed to improve the performance of a transonic axial compressor with circumferential casing grooves. In order to optimize the operating stability and peak adiabatic efficiency of the compressor with circumferential casing grooves, tip clearance, angle distribution at blade tip and the depth of the circumferential casing grooves are selected as design variables. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the shear stress transport turbulence model are discretized by finite volume approximations. The trade-off between two objectives with the interaction of blade and casing treatment is determined and discussed with respect to the representative clusters in the Pareto-optimal solutions compared to the axial compressor without the casing treatment.

  • This paper presents an approach to optimally design the air bearing surface (ABS) of the head slider by using the approximation methods. The reduced basis concept is used to reduce the number of design variables. In the numerical calculation, the progressive quadratic response surface modeling (PQRSM) is used to handle the non-smooth and discontinuous cost function. A multi-criteria optimization problem is formulated to enhance the flying performances over the entire recording band during the steady state and track seek operations. The optimal solutions of the sliders, whose target flying heights are 12 nm and 9 nm, are automatically obtained. The flying heights during the steady state operation become closer to the target values and the flying height variations during the track seek operation are smaller than those for the initial one. The pitch and roll angles are also kept within suitable ranges over the recording band.

  • Query applications based on nested data, the most commonly used form of data representation on the web, especially precise query, is becoming more extensively used. MapReduce, a distributed architecture with parallel computing power, provides a good solution for big data processing. However, in practical application, query requests are usually concurrent, which causes bottlenecks in server processing. To solve this problem, this paper first combines a column storage structure and an inverted index to build index for nested data on MapReduce. On this basis, this paper puts forward an optimization strategy which combines query execution service tree and frequent sub-query trajectory to reduce the response time of frequent queries and further improve the efficiency of multi-user concurrent queries on large scale nested data. Experiments show that this method greatly improves the efficiency of nested data query.

  • In this research, a MDO(multi-disciplinary design optimization) framework, which integrates aerodynamic and structural analysis to design an aircraft wing, is constructed. Whole optimization process is automated by a parametric-modeling approach. A CFD mesh is generated automatically from parametric modeling of CATIA and Gridgen followed by automatic flow analysis using Fluent. Finite element mesh is generated automatically by parametric method of MSC.Patran PCL. Aerodynamic load is transferred to Finite element model by the volume spline method. RSM(Response Surface Method) is applied for optimization, which helps to achieve global optimum. As the design problem to test the current MDO framework, a wing weight minimization with constraints of lift-drag ratio and deflection of the wing is selected. Aspect ratio, taper ratio and sweepback angle are defined as design variables. The optimization result demonstrates the successful construction of the MDO framework.

Feasibility study on a stabilization method based on full spectrum reallocation for spectra having non-identical momentum features

  • Methodology for suppressing or recovering the distorted spectra, which may occur due to mutual non-uniformity and nonlinear response when a multi-detector is simultaneously operated for gamma spectroscopy, is presented with respect to its applicability to stabilization of spectra having the non-identical feature using modified full spectrum reallocation method. The modified full-spectrum reallocation method is extended to provide multiple coefficients that describe the gain drift for multi-division of the spectrum and they were incorporated into an optimization process utilizing a random sampling algorithm. Significant performance improvements were observed with the use of multiple coefficients for solving partial peak dislocation. In this study, our achievements to confirm the stabilization of spectrum having differences in moments and modify the full spectrum reallocation method provide the feasibility of the method and ways to minimize the implication of the non-linear responses normally associated with inherent characteristics of the detector system. We believe that this study will not only simplify the calibration process by using an identical response curve but will also contribute to simplifying data pre-processing for various studies as all spectra can be stabilized with identical channel widths and numbers.

A Study on the Optimization Strategy using Permanent Magnet Pole Shape Optimization of a Large Scale BLDC Motor (대용량 BLDC 전동기의 영구자석 형상 최적화를 통한 최적화 기법 연구)

  • This paper presents a response surface method(RSM) with Latin Hypercube Sampling strategy, which is employed to optimize a magnet pole shape of large scale BLDC motor to minimize the cogging torque. The proposed LHS algorithm consists of the multi-objective Pareto optimization and (1+1) evolution strategy. The algorithm is compared with the uniform sampling point method in view points of computing time and convergence. In order to verify the developed algorithm, a 6 MW BLDC motor is simulated with 4 design parameters (arc length and 3 variables for magnet) and 4 constraints for minimizing of the cogging torque. The optimization procedure has two stages; the fist is to optimize the arc length of the PM and the second is to optimize the magnet pole shape by using the proposed hybrid algorithm. At the 3rd iteration, an optimal point is obtained, and the cogging torque of the optimized shape is converged to about 14% of the initial one. It means that 3 iterations aregood enough to obtain the optimal design parameters in the program.

Nose Shape Optimization of the High-Speed Train for the Speed-up in Tunnel (터널 주행속도 향상을 위한 고속열차 전두부 형상 최적화)

  • The next generation of Korean high-speed train under development will be designed for the maximum operating speed of 350km/h and maximum speed of 400km/h. This high-speed operation may cause the noise and vibration problems around tunnel exit due to the higher micro-pressure wave than present level. In this study, the nose shape optimization was conducted for the countermeasure against these problems. Axi-symmetric solver was used for numerical simulation, and response surface was used for efficiency of optimization process. Also the multi-step optimization was conducted to find out more accurate optimal shape. Through these analysis and optimization, it was found out that the optimal nose shapes for minimization of micro-pressure wave are definitely different along the nose length variation. And the mechanism of micro-pressure wave reduction was closely investigated by the analysis of generation process of compression wave in tunnel. The results are expected to be used as design guideline for performance improvement of the next generatin of Korean high-speed train.
