  • A polymer-based multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) field emission device was fabricated from a composite dispersion of MWCNTs and waterborne polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The waterborne PMMA synthesized through the emulsion polymerization method was added to minimize the reagglomeration of dispersed MWCNTs with surfactants in water, and increase the adhesion between the and the substrate. The field emission properties of the fabricated device were optimized by adjusting the density of the emitter and the adhesion between the MWCNTs and the substrate. These were done by controlling the polymer concentration added to the MWCNT dispersion, as well as the amount of spray coating on the substrate. The results confirm the successful fabrication of a polymer-based MWCNT field emission device with a low field of 1.07 $V/{\mu}m$ and a good electric field enhancement factor of 2445. The device was fabricated by adding 0.8 mg/mL of polymer solution to the MWCNT dispersion and applying 20 cycles of spray coating. Application of this same MWCNT/polymer composite solution to a flexible polymer substrate also resulted in the successful fabrication of an electric field emission device with uniform emission and long time stability.

  • Organic electroluminescence devices were made from 1,4-bis-(9-anthrylvinyl)benzene (AVB) and 1,4-bis-(9-aminoanthryl)benzene (AAB) anthracene derivatives. Device structure was ITO/AVB/PANI(EB)/Al (multi-layer device) and ITO/AAB:DCM/Al(single-layer device). In these devices, AVB, polyaniline(emeraldine base) (PANI(EB)) and AAB were used as the emitting material. 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-p-(dimethylamino)styryl-4H -pyran(DCM) was used as red fluorescent dopant. We studied change of fluorescence wavelength with concentration of DCM doped in AAB. The ionization potential (IP) and optical band gap (Eg) were measured by cyclic voltammetry and UV-visible spectrum. We compared with difference of emitting wavelength between photoluminescence and electroluminescence spectrum. In case of the multi-layer device, PANI and AVB EL spectra have similar wave pattern to each PL spectrum and when PAM and AVB were used at the same time, and multi-layer device showed that a balanced recombination and radiation kom PANI and AVB. In case of the single-layer device, with the increase of DCM concentration, the blue emission decreases and red emission increases. This indicates that DCM was excited by the energy transfer from AAB to DCM or the direct recombination at the dopant sites due to carrier trapping, or both. The device with $1.0wt\%$ DCM concentration gave white light.

  • Background: The gamma emission tomography (GET) device has been reported a reliable technique to inspect partial defects within spent nuclear fuel (SNF) of pin-by-pin level. However, the existing GET devices have low accuracy owing to the high attenuation and scatter probability for SNF inspection condition. The purpose of this study is to design and optimize a Yonsei single-photon emission computed tomography version 2 (YSECT.v.2) for fast inspection of SNF in water storage by acquisition of high-quality tomographic images. Materials and Methods: Using Geant4 (Geant4 Collaboration) and DETECT-2000 (Glenn F. Knoll et al.) Monte Carlo simulation, the geometrical structure of the proposed device was determined and its performance was evaluated for the 137Cs source in water. In a Geant4-based assessment, proposed device was compared with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)-authenticated device for the quality of tomographic images obtained for 12 fuel sources in a 14 × 14 Westinghouse-type fuel assembly. Results and Discussion: According to the results, the length, slit width, and septal width of the collimator were determined to be 65, 2.1, and 1.5 mm, respectively, and the material and length of the trapezoidal-shaped scintillator were determined to be gadolinium aluminum gallium garnet and 45 mm, respectively. Based on the results of performance comparison between the YSECT.v.2 and IAEA's device, the proposed device showed 200 times higher performance in gamma-detection sensitivity and similar source discrimination probability. Conclusion: In this study, we optimally designed the GET device for improving the SNF inspection accuracy and evaluated its performance. Our results show that the YSECT.v.2 device could be employed for SNF inspection.

  • Electroluminescence(EL) devices based on organic thin layers have attracted lot of interests because of their application as display. One of the problems is red material. It offered a short life and poor emission efficiency to boot. In this study, this problem can be solved by using a multi-layer device structure. Organic electroluminescent devices which are composed of organic thin multi-layer films are fabricated. The basic structure is ITO / Emitting layer / LiP / Al EL device in which Hole transport/Electron blocking PVK layer was blending. We demonstrate the enhancement of eletroluminescence (EL) from blends of poly(3-hexylthiophene) in poly(N-vinylcarvazole). The emitting layer is consisted of a host material(PVK) and a guest emitting material(P3HT). It was showed higher EL intensity and their electro-optical properties were investigated.

  • This paper proposes a charge-discharge control circuit using capacitors and verifies the performance of the circuit for charge, emission, and discharge operations. The proposed control circuit performs multiple emission operations without inter-circuit influence because it uses capacitors independently for each emission circuit. Even with the instability of the input power, the output energy during emission stably supplies more than 1.6 mV of energy, which is the energy required for output, through the charging function of the capacitor. After release, the remaining energy of the capacitor is safely discharged by more than 99% of the 3.125 V remaining in the capacitor through the discharge function of the capacitor, confirming that approximately 25 mV remained. The proposed control circuit confirmed the stability and reliability of the emission device through simulation and measurement results.

  • A non-thermal micron size plasma needle is applicable for medical treatment because it includes radicals, charged particles, ultraviolet emission, and strong electric fields. The electric fields around the plasma needle device driven by a radio frequency wave are investigated in order to calculate the power delivered to the cell. A commercial multi-physics code, CFD-ACE, was utilized for the calculation of electric fields for the optimization of the needle structure. The electric field and energy absorption profiles are presented with the variation of the device structure and the distance between the needle and tissues. The living tissues effectively absorb the radio frequency power from the plasma needle device with the covered pyrex structure.

  • IMML(Inorganic metal multi-layer) was used as cathode in the OLED devices to reduce the reflectance or ITO and increase the contrast ratio. Device structure was $ITO/{\alpha}-NPD/Alq_3:DCJTB/Alq_3/IMML/Al$. $Alq_3$ and DCJTB (4 - (dicyanomethylene) - 2 - ( 1 - propyls) 6 - methy 4H - pyrans) as host material lot red emission and red emitting guest material. IMML made three different layer: thin aluminum layer, aluminum layer doped with silicon monoxide, thick aluminum layer. The red OLED device with IMML showed the average reflectance of $4.97\%$, and then normal OLED with or without polarizer showed the average reflectance of $4.55\%$, $46\%$ at visible range from 380 nm to 780 nm. The brightness of OLED with IMML at 13 V was 5557 $cd/m^2$, and that of normal OLED with polarizer was 4872 $cd/m^2$. IMML could be the substitution for polarizer with same reflection, low cost, easy process in flat panel display market.

  • Smart textile industries have been precipitously developed and extended to electronic textiles and wearable devices in recent years. In particular, owing to an increasingly aging society, the elderly healthcare field has been highlighted in the smart device industries, and pressure sensors can be utilized in various elderly healthcare products such as flooring, mattress, and vital-sign measuring devices. Furthermore, elderly healthcare products need to be more lightweight and flexible. To fulfill those needs, textile-based pressure sensors is considered to be an attractive solution. In this research, to apply a textile to the second layer using a pressure sensing device, a novel type of conductive textile was fabricated using vapor phase polymerization of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). Vapor phase polymerization is suitable for preparing the conductive textile because the reaction can be controlled simply under various conditions and does not need high-temperature processing. The morphology of the obtained PEDOT-conductive textile was observed through the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM). Moreover, the resistance was measured using an ohmmeter and was confirmed to be adjustable to various resistance ranges depending on the concentration of the oxidant solution and polymerization conditions. A 3-layer 81-point multi-pressure sensor was fabricated using the PEDOT-conductive textile prepared herein. A 3D-viewer program was developed to evaluate the sensitivity and multi-pressure recognition of the textile-based multi-pressure sensor. Finally, we confirmed the possibility that PEDOT-conductive textiles could be utilized by pressure sensors.

  • Highly quantum efficient and multi-color emissible polymer light emitting devices have been realized utilizing poly (1-dodecyloxy-4-methyl-1, 3-phenylene)(2, 5"-terthienylene)(hereafter, mPTTh polymer) as an emitting layer and tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) as an electron transport layer. A single layer EL device of mPTTh polymer emits orange-colored light. EL efficiency increases as the thickness of Alq3 layer increases, but the emission color becomes visually broad when the Alq3 layer thickness is greater than 30nm since the relative peak intensity of green EL from Alq3 layer grows. EL color is changed from orange to greenish orange as the thickness of Alq3 layer grows. EL color is changed from orange to greenish orange as the thickness of Alq3 layer increases. EL efficiency of the double layer device was greatly enhanced by 3000 times compared with that of a single layer device. Alq3 layer in device acts as a hole blocking electron transporting layer and an emitting layer as a function of the thickness of Alq3 layer.ayer.
