한국산 남방짱뚱어 Scartelaos gigas의 후각기관 구조에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Structure of Peripheral Olfactory Organ in the Korean Mudskipper, Scartelaos gigas (Pisces, Gobiidae))

  • 수중과 육상의 이중적인 생활을 하는 남방짱뚱어 Scartelaos gigas (amphibious mudskipper)의 후각기관을 해부학과 조직학적으로 연구하였다. 그 결과 후각기관은 좌우 한 쌍이 존재하며 각 기관은 한 개의 가느다란 긴관 (an elongated canal)과 사비강과 누비강의 두 개의 비강 (ethmoidal and lacrimal nasal sacs)으로 구성되어 있었다. 각 관의 내벽에 발달한 감각 상피는 3~4개의 섬모를 가지는 감각 수용기 세포 (receptor cell), 지지세포 (supporting cell), 기저세포 (basal cell) 그리고 점액세포 (mucus cell)들로 구성되는 다세포성 구조로 이루어져 있었다. 반면에 비감각 상피는 감각기를 갖지 않는 주름진 표면만을 가지고 있었다. 또한 두 개의 비강은 상피 표면에 점액 방울 (mucin droplet)을 가지고 있었다. 따라서 남방짱뚱어의 이러한 후각기관의 특징은 생태적 습성과 서식처에 관련된 반수중 생활 (semi-aquatic life)에 적응한 특징으로 사료된다.

  • The epidermis of the mudskipper, Periophthalmus modestus, consists of three layers- the outermost layer, middle layer and stratum germinativum. Extensive fine blood capillaries are present near the superficial layer of epidermis and outermost layer in five fins and a sucking disc. The diffusion distance between the vascular capillaries and the surface of epidermis ranged from 3.6 to 10.9${\mu}$m: 3.6 ${\mu}$m in the sucking disc, 10.9 ${\mu}$m in the anal fin and 4.6 to 5.0 ${\mu}$m in the two dorsal fins. Rate of the surface area of respiratory epithelium, the surface area of the fine blood capillaries occupied per surface area of epidermis in 0.1mm, is 3.7 to 4.4% in two dorsal fins and 1.1% in the anal fin. The middle layer is simpler in structure consisting of small or voluminous cells swollen by epidermal cells, and this layer appeared web-like. Well-developed lymphatic spaces containing lymphocytes existed in the stratum germinativum. The five fins and sucking disc had no epidermal glands.

동면 어류의 시기별 근육성분 분포에 관한 조직학적 관찰 - 2. 짱뚱어(Boleophthalmus pectinirostris) 근육조직중 탄수화물, 단백질 및 지방질 분포의 변화 (Histological Observation on the Seasonal Changes of Distribution of Muscle Components in Hibernant Fish - 2.   • 짱뚱어를 대상으로 산란기 전(6월), 산란기 후(9월)와 동면 직전(11월), 동면직후(4월)에 있어 자웅(雌雄) 각각에 대한 근육성분의 조성을 분석하고 주요 육(肉)성분에 대한 조직내 분포를 검토한 결과는 다음과 같다. 비만도(肥滿度)는 암컷은 산란기 전, 숫컷은 산란기 후가 다소 높았으나 동면후는 가장 낮았다. 수분 함량은 자웅(雌雄) 모두가 산란기 후가 가장 적으나 동면 직후가 가장 많았고 조단백질은 산란기 후에, 조지방은 암컷은 산란기전, 수컷은 산란기 후가 가장 많아 수분과 조단백질 사이 (암컷, 수컷), 그리고 수분과 조지방 함량 사이(수컷)의 변화양상이 대체로 상보적(相補的) 관계를 이루었고 탄수화물함량은 자웅(雌雄) 모두가 동면직전에 다소 많았고 동면직후에 가장 적었다. 근육조직의 PAS염색강도가 산란기 전에는 비교적 근육조직 전반에 걸쳐 높게 나타났고 동면직후는 점액층과 표피층이 다소 높은 경향이었으나 뚜렷한 차이는 인지할 수 없었다. Sudan black B 염색결과, 지방질 염색반응이 산란기 전과 후에는 주로 점액층과 표피및 피하층에 나타났고, 피하조직 세포 사이에서도 다소 인지되었다. 동면 직전과 직후에는 조직전반에 걸쳐 염색반응이 산재된 경향이었으나 동면직후는 그 정도가 다소 적은 편이었다.

전장빈도분석에 의한 짱뚱어 Boleophthalmus pectinirostris 0세어의 성장 추정 (Growth Estimation of 0-Aged Blue Spot Mudskipper Boleophthalmus pectinirostris Using Length Frequency Data)

  • The growth of young-of-the-year blue spot mudskipper, Boleophthalmus pectinirostris, was investigated using length-frequency data for 395 individuals collected from a mud flat in southwestern Korea between August and October 2001. Three cohorts were separated by the Bhattacharya method. In October, individuals of cohort-I reached 98 mm in total length, whereas those of cohort-III reached just 66 mm. Each cohort reached hibernation in November, that could be related to the ring formation in the following year.

  • Age and growth of the blue spot mudskipper (Boleophthalmus pectinirostris) were studied using the samples caught in the mud flats of southwestern Korea during April-October, 2001. The value of the marginal index of the second actinost bone was the lowest in July and October and indicated by rings that was analysis of formed teice a year. The relationship between body weigt (BW) and total length (TL) was expressed as BW=0.000005 $TL^{3.12}\;(r^2=0.92)$ for females and BW=0.000476 $TL=^{2.18}\;(r^2=0.62)$ for males. Regression analysis of TL-BW between sexes showed a significant difference (P<0.01). Relationship between total length (TL) and actinost radius (R) were expressed as TL=16.9+33.4 R $(r^2=0.62)$ for females and TL=45.8+26.2 R $(r^2=0.41)$ for males. Growth parameters, $L\infty,t_0$ and K were estimated as 165.2 mm, -0.23, and 1.07 for females and 155.3 mm, -0.35, and 1.39 for males.

  • Age and growth of the mudskipper, Scartelaos gigas were investigated using the second actinost bone of the pectoral girdle, based on an analysis of 560 individuals collected from the mud flats in south west Korea. Specimens were collected semimonthly from March to September of 2003. Actinost and ring radii of each ring group showed a direct one-to-one relationship, with ring radius increasing in tandem with actinost radius. Monthly change in the marginal indices showed that ring formation occurred between May and July(mainly June), being supported by the monthly change in the gonadosomatic(highest in June) and hepatosomatic(lowest in July) indices. Because the species has not been found since November, when air temperature was less than about $10^{\circ}C$, it is thought to enter to hibernation. Therefore, it was suggested that the two new actinost rings may appear a year: one during the spawning season(May-July) and another during hibernation(since November). Although the growth of S. gigas must be limited to short periods each year from March to April and from August to October, its growth rate was considerably fast. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters of S. gigas were $TL_{\infty}$=179.36 mm, K=0.78 $year^{-1}$, $t_0$=-0.7762, and age-length key were $TL_1$=134.3 mm, $TL_2$=158.6 mm, $TL_3$=169.1 mm, $TL_4$=175.0 mm.

Histological study on the skin structure in two mudskippers, Periophthalmus waltoni and Boleophthalmus dussumieri in relation to their terrestrial life

  • Microscopic structure of skin in two amphibious mudskipper fish; Boleophthalmus dussumieri Valenciennes, 1837 (B. dussumeri) and Periophthalmus waltoni Koumans, 1941 (P. waltoni) were investigated in relation to their lifestyle. The general structure of skin is the same among the two species. Epidermis in B. dussumeri was thicker significantly than P. waltoni. The dermal bulges were only well developed in the skin of B. dussumeri. Mucous cells were absent in the epidermis of P. waltoni but present in B. dussumeri. Both B. dussumeri and P. waltoni have well-developed swollen middle cells as a shared epidermal feature. The thickness of the middle cell layer of the epidermis in B. dussumeri was significantly greater than in P. waltoni. Capillaries in the dorsal and ventral parts of the body are more closely distributed to the epidermal surface in P. waltoni than in B. dussumeri. The diffusion distance in the dorsal epidermis of P. waltoni was less than that in the ventral epidermis of B. dussumeri. A comparative examination of the skin of mudskipper species suggests that, due to the more terrestrial lifestyle adopted by P. waltoni, the skin contributes more to respiration.
