Methods: The subjects of this study were two women who mainly complained of abnormal uterine bleeding. They received combination treatment of Korean medicine and physiotherapy. The Korean medicine included Yikwiseungyang-tang, acupuncture and moxa. The effect was evaluated compared to before hospitalization. Results: In this study, patient's clinical symptoms, including bleeding volume, menstrual pain, and weakness improved after hospitalization treatment. Conclusions: This case report shows that the combination treatment of Korean medicine with Yikwiseungyang-tang, acupuncture and moxa may be effective for treating abnormal uterine bleeding.
Objectives : Many researches have studied warm needling technique to standardize its treatment by temperature measurement and material differences in the effectiveness. The purpose of this study is to compare the temperature changes of the acupuncture needle shaft during the combustion process of the moxa stick to determine the heat transfer pattern of the warn needling. Methods : A moxa stick($7{\times}8mm$) was connected to one side of the needle shaft using a stainless steel needle(ø 0.3 mm, ø 0.5 mm, ø 0.8 mm, shaft length 40 mm) with the needle handle removed. During the warm needling, temperature changes of the needle shaft were observed with an infrared camera(Flir E30) and an infrared thermometer(TESTO 845). Results : In the normal condition, heat transmit of needle shaft increased at spots 10 mm and 25 mm below the moxa stick. The amount of heat transmit increased with the diameter of needle shaft. However, when the heat shield was installed to exclude radiant heat from the moxa stick, heat transfer was less at 10 mm below the moxa stick and no temperature change was observed at 25 mm below the moxa stick. Heat transfer by warm needling does not reach the end of needle shaft even in ø 0.8 mm needle. Conclusions : It is suggested that the radiant heat of moxa stick results in the heat transmit of acupuncture needle shaft. Thus, radiant heat transmit must be considered as one of the heat transfer characteristics of the warm needling.
Objectives : This study was performed to evaluate the general distribution and the efficacy of oriental medical treatment for low back pain. Methods: We have selected of the moxa bucket moxibustion. We make a comparative study of the thermodynamic characteristics of moxa bucket moxibustion. We examined combustion times, temperatures, temperature gradients in each period during a combustion of moxa bucket moxibustion made by oak wood. Results : The 80 cases of low back pain patients was analyzed according to the distribution of sex, age, the period of disease, contributing factor, the patient-condition on admission, the symptom on admission, the duration of admission, the reading of the X-ray and the treatment efficacy was evaluated respectively. 1. Female was more than male in the ratio of 1:1.2, and thirties and seventies 25% the most, the acutest phase 46.3% the most, reason unknown 33.8% the most, Grade III 50% the most, L.B.P. only 51.3% the most, the day of 6-10 30% the most, compression Fx 30% the most. 2. In the total treatment result, the good was 51.3%, the excellent 22.5%, the fair 17.5%, the poor 8.8% in order. About 'the effective rate'(the percentage of positive effective treatment cases) of each distribution, the fifties 100% the most, the acutest phase 97.3% the most, the slip down, weight lifting, overuse 100% the most respectively, Grade III 97.5% the most, L.B.P. only 95.1% the most, the day of 11-15 100% the most, HN.P. 93.3% the most. Conclusions : We have known the efficacy of oriental medical treatment for L.B.P. was good and early treatment was better than late treatment and main cause of L.B.P. was degenerative change.
Objectives : Chim-Gu-Kyung-Heom-Bang(CGKHB; 鍼灸經驗方) is the needle and moxa specialized document written by the doctor specialized in needle and moxa treatment of Joseon(朝鮮), Heo Im(1570-1647). The document was published in April 1644(22nd year of King Injo). CGKHB contains the needle and moxa treatment techniques accumulated by the Joseon Dynasty as well as the personal experience of Heo Im. The aim of this study is to restore the past treatment method as a method of Needle Insertion Method at CV12(NIM-CV12, needle to penetrate blood vessel technique) in CGKHB.. Methods : Through Dong-Yi-Bao-Gam(DYBG; 東醫寶鑑), the implication of Korean medicine study of the Jungwan(CV12) has been studied. Next is the contemplation of the NIM-CV12 of CGKHB with the Acupuncture Treatment Using Jungwan(中脘鍼法) of Park Tae-won and Acupuncture Treatment for Byeokjeok(癖積鍼法) of "Geup Yubang". Results and Conclusions : 1. CV12 is one of the acupuncture points representing stomach(脾胃), middle energizer(中焦), phlegm-fluid retention(痰飮) and greater yin(太陰). 2. NIM-CV12 of CGKHB is the technique to penetrate the needle into the CV12 strictly relying on tactile sense of a person who give the penetration. This CV12 administration was carried out at intervals of every 7 or 8 day. During the administration period, the patient was not allowed to intake excessive amount of food. 3. The Acupuncture Treatment Using Jungwan(中脘鍼法) of Park Tae-won and Acupuncture Treatment for Byeokjeok(癖積鍼法) of "GeupYubang", existed in the same era of the NIM-CV12 of CGKHB, have similar linkage to the NIM-CV12 of Heo Im.
The conventional direct and indirect moxibustion therapies for prostatism treatment could not been applied to the acupuncture point of CV 1( Conception Vessel Meridian 1) because of its boring body region. In order to get rid of these problems we have suggested the moxa-pad cauterizer especially for prostatism. We have implemented the moxa-pad moxibustion cauterizer especially for the prostatism. The experimental demonstrations have been made by the stimulating the spots which are CV-1(Conception Vessel Meridian 1), B-28(Bladder Meridian 28), and CV-3(Conception Vessel Meridian 3) acupuncture points. And stimulating time was one hour with moxa-pad cauterizer.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between heat transmission and intervention factors for warm acupuncture (such as features of acupuncture material and moxa, the treatment method, and clinical symptoms). Methods: Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese databases were analysed. Experimental studies that explored the association between thermal stimulation delivery and warm acupuncture intervention factors were included. The peak temperature, time to reach the peak temperature, and time of the effective stimulus, were set as the major parameters and analysed. Results: A total of 12 studies were included. Two studies were associated with the acupuncture needle material, 4 studies associated with the moxa mass, 1 study associated with the moxa density, 2 studies associated with the location of ignition, and 1 study associated with treatment environment were reviewed. The reporting quality of the 12 studies was low. Conclusion: This study provided limited information because of the heterogeneity of materials and parameters depending on each experiment. Further studies should clarify the correlation between heat transmission and intervention factors for warm acupuncture.

Although there have been studies investigating the clinical effects of warm needling (WN) for specific diseases, a comprehensive review of WN is needed. Four Korean internet databases were used in the review of WN treatment performed in Korea. The search terms used to retrieve articles were "warm needling (in Korean; 온침)," "warm acupuncture," and "warm needle." A total of 29 articles were reviewed. The following aspects of WN were investigated: language and terminology, study design, use of Standards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture, research ethics, moxibustion types, number of moxa used, moxa combustion time, needle retention time, treatment time and frequency, acupoints, meridians, acupuncture size and depth, disease classification, pattern identification, outcome measures, and adverse effect. More sophisticated and precise studies on WN are required.
In order to look about the effect and possibility of oriental medical diagnosis and treatment of pancytopenia of myelodysplastic syndrome. For a patient who has pancytopenia. we diagnose him as myelodysplastic syndrome by CBC, LFT, Ultrasonic wave, Vitamin B12 test, Bone marrow test, Folic acid test and doing Herb-medication, Moxa-Tx continually, we observed the change of WBC, RBC. HGB. MCV, Platelet. ESR with following up CBC test ten times Finally, WBC increased by 900, RBC increased by 400000, MCV was reduced by 7fl. HGB increased by 1.3g/dl. Hct increased by 3.2%, ESR was reduced from 127 to 35mm/h. We diagnosed myelodysplastic syndrome as 'CONSUMPTIVE DISEASE' in oreintal medicine. The treatment effect of pancytopenia was achieved by Herb-medication and Moxa-Tx for invigorating qi, enriching the blood, invigorating the spleen and the kidney-yang, Now we need the study of oriental medical treatment for Aplastic Anemia and AML which is similar this.
Objectives : The conventional direct and indirect moxibustion therapies for prostate treatment could not been applied to the acupuncture point of $CV_1$(Conception Vessel Meridian 1, 會陰) because of its boring body region. The position of $CV_1$(會陰) is the back side of hard part between the anus and the genital organ. The conventional moxibustion methods have many troubles in operating to the acupuncture point of $CV_1$(會陰). In order to get rid of these problems, we have suggested the special heat generating terminal especially for prostate. The features of the special heat generating terminal for prostate are the low temperature infrared heater and the adhesive moxa-pad. These features are no burnt, no fiery and especially suitable for the point of $CV_1$(會陰). Methods: The heat generating terminal which is a part of the moxa-extract moxibustion cauterizer is composed of a PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficients) ceramic heater and the adhesive moxa-pad We had got the experimental demonstrations by the stimulating the acupuncture points which are $CV_1$(會陰), $BL_{28}$(Bladder Meridian 28, 膀胱兪), and $CV_3$(Conception Vessel Meridian 3, 中極) with the special heat generating terminal for the prostatitis and the benign prosthetic hypertrophy. And the stimulation level was 43$^{\circ}C$ infrared heat for one hour. The type of thermography is IRIS-5000. Results : With one subject suffering the prostatitis and another subject suffering the benign prosthetic hypertrophy, we cauterized the acupuncture points $CV_1$(會陰), $BL_{28}$(膀胱兪) and $CV_3$(中極) with the special heat generating terminal for prostate. We measured the temperature variations by the thermography before and after stimulations. Finally we estimated the tendency of temperature decreasing in the region of post-stroke urinary symptoms and the improvement of nocturnal enuresis after the stimulations. Conclusions : We suggest that the special heat generating terminal of moxa-extract moxibustion cauterizer proposed herein is effective for the treatment of prostate by NIH-CPSI and IPSS.
