  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a method to improve the performance of the previous research is characterized by recognizing facial gestures from the 3D coordinates of seven landmarks selected from the MediaPipe Face Mesh model, generating corresponding user events, and executing corresponding commands. The proposed method applied adaptive moving average processing to the cursor positions in the process to stabilize the cursor by alleviating microtremor, and improved performance by blocking temporary opening/closing discrepancies between both eyes when opening and closing both eyes simultaneously. As a result of the usability evaluation of the proposed facial gesture interface, it was confirmed that the average recognition rate of facial gestures was increased to 98.7% compared to 95.8% in the previous research.

  • This study was initiated to develop an effective inspection method to detect defects such as corrosion in closed-cell steel members in steel-box girder bridges. The ultrasonic velocity method among various non-destructive method was selected as a rapid and effective method to derive the average propagation velocity in the medium by using the ultrasonic wave velocity method for specimens of different thickness. The regression analysis was performed based on the experimental results, and the results was interpolated to evaluate the prediction accuracy. If the material properties are identical, this ultrasonic velocity method can predict the thickness using the averaged transmitted velocity. In addition, a continuous scanning method moving at 200 mm/s was tested for scanning a wide area of a bridge. The results exhibited that the continuous scanning method was able to effectively scan the different thickness of a bridge.

  • A new balancing method of atrial pressures balancing for the moving actuator total artificial heart(TAH) without an extra compliance chamber was developed. The asymmetric operation of the pendulous moving actuator have made it possible to compensate the left and right pump output difference by utilizing the interventricular air space as an internal compliance chamber in a pump housing. Furthermore, the balancing performance between left and right pump outputs is increased through the improvement of the flexibility of part of the polyurethane housing. However, the increase of the flexibility of the pump housing causes a little loss of the cardiac output due to the reduction of active filling property. In this paper., a good condition between the balance and pump output performance is evaluated by adjusting the air volume in the interventricular space through a series of in vitro experiments. This new pump was implanted in a sheep weighting 63kg, and it survived for 3 days and the average cardiac output during postoperative days was about 4.2 L/mim with the atrial pressures under 15 mmHg.

  • In this paper, an 2D spatial-map construction for workers identification and avoidance of AGV using the detection scheme of the spatial coordinates based on stereo camera is proposed. In the proposed system, face area of a moving person is detected from a left image among the stereo image pairs by using the YCbCr color model and its center coordinates are computed by using the centroid method and then using these data, the stereo camera embedded on the mobile robot can be controlled for tracking the moving target in real-time. Moreover, using the disparity map obtained from the left and right images captured by the tracking-controlled stereo camera system and the perspective transformation between a 3-D scene and an image plane, depth map can be detected. From some experiments on AGV driving with 240 frames of the stereo images, it is analyzed that error ratio between the calculated and measured values of the worker's width is found to be very low value of 2.19% and 1.52% on average.

  • Various methods have been so far proposed to find out the directions and spectra of sound waves from the sources for provisions of noise controls. The conventional methods are generally classified into three systems such as, single microphone system, moving microphone system and multi-microphone system, which composes a resultant super directivity by giving a appropriate delay and a weighting coefficient in the output of each microphone. In case of using a single microphone there is a difficulty in providing it with desirable super directivity in the low frequency range, while in case of using multi-microphone system there has been a disadvantage that the measurement of directivity could not separately be done with the spectrum analysing. And in case of the use of a moving microphone system it needs a condition that the sound source to be detected should be stationary state and in rest. However here we introduce a method that the spectral analysing and the directivity of synthesis can be separately carried out by using a linear array of many microphones, in which each output of the microphone is multiplied by appropriate weighting coefficient and all of those products are summed after passing through adequate filters. The resultant signal is then sampled with an adequate sampling frequency and taken average for processing.

  • In recent years, owing to the growing user demand for the two-way internet service based on the mobile global broadband communications, a new type of satellite terminal has been developed, known as ESIM(Earth Station in Motion). This service was required by Resolution 158(WRC-15) to study on the coexistence with the co-primary FS(Fixed Service) in 27.5-29.5 GHz as a FSS(Fixed Satellite Service) uplink. In this paper, the average received power on ESIM within -10 dB of beam width of FS and its outage probability was analyzed theoretically and also simulated to account for the azimuth angle with uniform distribution. From the results, it can be concluded that this theoretical analysis is very useful to analyze the interference from ESIM into FS based on the statistical and probabilistic method. Therefore, it is necessary to control the azimuth angle due to a moving terminal as well as the inclination angle of moving path, the operation hours, and the speed of ESIM to protect the co-primary FS.

  • Airborne Lidar (light detection and ranging) can be an effective alternative in forest inventory to overcome the limitations of conventional field survey and aerial photo interpretation. In this study, we attempt to develop methodologies to identify individual trees and to estimate tree height from airborne Lidar data. Initially, digital elevation model (DEM) data representing the exact ground surface were generated by removing non-ground returns from the multiple-return laser point clouds, obtained over the coniferous forest site of rugged terrain. Based on the canopy height model (CHM) data representing non-ground layer, individual tree heights are extracted through pseudo-grid method and moving window filtering algorithm. Comparing with field survey data and aerial photo interpretation on sample plots, the number of trees extracted from Lidar data show over 90% accuracy and tree heights were underestimated within 1.1m in average at two plantation stands of pine (Pinus koraiensis) and larch (Larix leptolepis).

  • The Long Term Evolution (LTE) system is designed to provide a high quality data service for fast moving mobile users. It is based on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and relies its channel estimation on the training samples which are systematically built within the transmitting data. Either a preamble or a lattice type is used for the distribution of training samples and the latter suits better for the multipath fading channel environment whose channel frequency response (CFR) fluctuates rapidly with time. In the lattice-type structure, the estimation of the CFR makes use of the least squares estimate (LSE) for each pilot samples, followed by an interpolation both in time-and in frequency-domain to fill up the channel estimates for subcarriers corresponding to data samples. All interpolation schemes should rely on the pilot estimates only, and thus, their performances are bounded by the quality of pilot estimates. However, the additive noise give rise to high fluctuation on the pilot estimates, especially in a communication environment with low signal-to-noise ratio. These high fluctuations could be monitored in the alternating high values of the first forward differences (FFD) between pilot estimates. In this paper, we analyzed statistically those FFD values and propose a postprocessing algorithm to suppress high fluctuations in the noisy pilot estimates. The proposed method is based on a localized adaptive moving-average filtering. The performance of the proposed technique is verified on a multipath environment suggested on a 3GPP LTE specification. It is shown that the mean-squared error (MSE) between the actual CFR and pilot estimates could be reduced up to 68% from the noisy pilot estimates.

  • In this paper, the measurement system of crane moving range is concerned with range recognition technology using phase and magnitude of radio wave. By the proposed technology, we design the radio transmitter and receiver and realize the measurement system, and save the data in disk that is earned from 900Mhz RF signal, middle frequency 450khz of analog signal. As a result of RF measurement, we got 9.3 dBm of RF output and 96 dBc@10khz of phase noise. Range information is earned the data through digital signal processing of IF signal. For the estimation of range measured, we analyze the difference between real range and measurement range, and also suggest the method to remove the measurement error using average processing and amplitude properties. A result is 0.12 and 0.00422 deviation in l0mn-30m and within 5m respectively, and then 2.4E-04 deviation in 4m by using compensation of level characteristics lately.

  • When we collect marketing data, we can only obtain the bimonthly or quarterly data but the monthly data be available. If we evaluate or predict monthly market condition or establish monthly marketing strategies, we need to disaggregate these bimonthly or quarterly data to the monthly data. In this paper, for bimonthly or quarterly data, we introduce some methods of disaggregation to monthly data. These disaggregation methods include the simple average method, the growth rate method, the weighting method by the judgment of experts, and variable decomposition method using 12 month moving cumulative sum. In this paper, we applied variable decomposition method to disaggregate for bimonthly data of sum of electronics sales in a European country. We, also, introduce how to use this method to predict the future data.
