  • In this paper we evaluated dynamic stability, considering the effects of modeling and analysis methods on moving load analysis, for which a sophisticated 3 dimensional model of a PSC-I type girder bridge was used. For this purpose, we suggested a reasonable modeling method and the physical properties of the concrete and ballasted track system involved. We also analyzed the response characteristics according to: 1) the type of track system; 2) whether or not the track was modeled; 3) whether or not the distance between the girder center and the bearing were considered; 4) the analysis method (i.e., direct integral and modal analysis); 5) whether or not the frequency was filtered.

  • In this study we determine a dynamic analysis of the existing two-span prestressed concrete box girder bridge subjected to moving vehicle loads using the experimental measurements. The moving loads applied in this paper are classified as general travelling, suddenly brake, continuous travelling, reversely travelling and reversely travelling impact loads for increasing velocities. For each travelling load, we search dynamic behaviors and characteristic in various measuring point of box girder section. In addition, the three-dimensional numerical results analyzed by the developed finite element program using flat shell element with six degrees of freedom per a node are compared with the measured experimental data. Dynamic behaviors caused impact loads by suddenly braking, reversely travelling, are bigger than by general travelling in box girder. Three-dimensional numerical results are better than one-dimensional results.

  • A number of conventional railway bridge is more than 2600. Non-ballast plate girder bridge is about 700 and this is 27% of all bridge numbers. Non-ballast plate girder has advantages that self load is more lighter than moving load and construction cost is more inexpensive than concrete bridge. But non-ballast plate girder has disadvantages that vibration and noise is bigger than concrete bridge. This study had analyzed behavior of non-ballast plate girder according to the arrangement of supports and driving conditions to review the proper arrangement of support. Measurements were performed in single line and disel locomotive of 7400type were used as test vehicle. The vehicle's driving conditions are as follows; Change of driving direction, Constant speed driving, Deceleration driving, Acceleration driving. Main measurement contents were horizontal displacement and vertical vibration acceleration in girder of vicinity support. Results of measurement are as follows; In case that a vehicle drives from fixed support to movable support, vertical vibration acceleration of the girder was smaller than opposition case.

  • A 3-D numerical model, which could demonstrate the static and dynamic responses of a curved bridge more precisely with the moving vehicles, was developed The dynamic response induced by the centrifugal rolling motion of vehicle was identified according to the variations of the partial grade and the curvature of the slab. Dynamic characteristics of the curved bridge with the moving vehicle were analyzed under the condition of support types and two different support systems. Parametric studies were conducted to compare the efficiency of load distribution in the curved bridge. In general, while the vehicle was crossing the curved bridge, negative reaction occurred in the inside of the girder. The final result showed that the support system located outside the girder was more advantageous than other systems, and the characteristics of load distributions differed from the others in the various conditions of support systems.

  • Steel railway bridge gets vibration from moving load ; additionally, this kind of moving load is going to be a sufficient reason, which causes fatigue damage to steel railway bridge. Fatigue damage and stress curve were raised by moving load depends on span length in steel railway bridge. In other words, stress curve appears index regarding every axial load in short span, but self weight lets stress curve's change decrease in proportion to increasing span length. Thereby, we have studied that how the steel railway bridge appear fatigue damage in proportion to span length of steel railway bridge. Dynamic strain was measured in 4 steel plate-girder railway bridge during the trains was passing, which is located on the line of Kyoung-chun railway. And time history response analysis has been done in order to ensure actual survey. The results of this study show the decreased of the fatigue damage in steel railway bridge according to length of span. This paper ends is bases research of fatigue design in steel railway bridges according to span length.

  • As an alternative to conventional prestressed concrete (PSC) girders, various types of PSC girders are either under development or have already been applied in bridge structures. Incrementally prestressed concrete girder is one of these newly developed girders. According to the design concept, these new types of PSC girders have the advantages of requiring less self-weight while having the capability of longer spans. However, the dynamic interaction between bridge superstructures and passing trains is one of the critical issues concerning these railway bridges designed with more flexibility. Therefore, it is very important to evaluate modal parameters of newly designed bridges before doing dynamic analyses. In the present paper, a 25 meters long full scale PSC girder was fabricated as a test specimen and modal testing was carried out to evaluate modal parameters including natural frequencies and modal damping ratios at every prestressing stage. During the modal testing, a digitally controlled vibration exciter as well as an impact hammer is applied, in order to obtain precise frequency response functions and the modal parameters are evaluated varying with construction stages. Prestressed force effects on changes of modal parameters are analyzed at every incremental prestressing stage. With the application of reliable properties from modal experiments, estimation of dynamic performances of PSC girder railway bridges can be obtained from various parametric studies on dynamic behavior under the passage of moving train. Dynamic displacements, impact factor, acceleration of the slab, end rotation of the girder, and other important dynamic performance parameters are checked with various speeds of the train.

  • Damages of a steel box girder bridge are detected using neural networks. Damage detection using neural networks has increasing momentum in structural engineering. It is a new effort to overcome the limitations of the conventional analytical approaches and applied to the damage detection of a steel box-girder bridge. Data sets for training neural networks are obtained from the acceleration response of the bridge under moving load. Finite element model is first defined and damages of 5, 10, 15 and 20% are assumed in the model. Not only the trained damages but untrained damages are detected in the assessment stage. The untrained damages can be detected with acceptable errors. Because the number of damaged locations are limited to a few parts, more researches are needed to put this technique into practice.

  • In this study a 3-dimensional analytical model is developed, which can analyses dynamic responses of curved bridges subject to moving vehicles. A 5-axle semi-trailer is modeled to simulate the actual tire forces that are redistributed by vehicle rolling effect due to the centrifugal force. The 1-span curved bridge with two steel box girders is modeled using the frame elements. The dynamic response characteristics of curved box girder bridges are examined and compared for two different support conditions. One is the case that two shoes are arranged at the outer sides of box girders with larger space between the two shoes and the other is that two shoes at the center of each box girder. In the curved bridges, the dynamic effect of moving vehicles influences the reaction force much more than other responses, such as displacement or stress, especially the upward reaction of inner-radius shoes. It is more advantageous for the reaction considering dynamic effect when shoes are arranged further at the outer sides of box girders than when shoes at the center of each box. The shoes for curved bridges with two-box girder system should be arranged to have larger distance.

  • High speed railway structure, contact of vehicle needs to design considering the running stability(dynamic behavior). Also, upper structure has to satisfy design standard about moving load, high speed train(KTX). So, the high speed railway structure has to satisfy the requirement of natural frequency, vertical acceleration on deck, face distortion and vertical displacement considering ride comfort, which is suggested Ho-nam high speed railway design standard. In this study, it was investigated and evaluated to the dynamic behavior for tow plate Girder railway bridge subjected to moving load considering real high speed train loads.
