  • Detent force produced in permanent linear machines generally causes an undesired effect that contributes to the output ripple of machine, vibration and noise. This paper analyzes detent force and thrust in Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM) by using various detent force minimization techniques. A two dimensional Finite Element Analysis(FEA) is used to Predict detent force and thrust due to structural factors and non-linearity.

  • This thesis presents a design methodology of a Digital Servo Signal Processor for high speed CD-ROM drive systems. The proposed Digital Servo Signal Processor enables us to develop CD-related systems for the very high speed applications and is one of the key components of the CD-ROM systems. The proposed center compensation servo control is newly built for a actuator shaking due to the fast response of a step motor when it jumps to a long distance. From experimental results, we can see that the performance of the control system is improved greatly. The proposed servo algorithm shows a shorter setting time including a pull-in time and a faster access time.

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) drive system provides a good adjustable speed and torque characteristics. SRM has the possibility of maintaining full power over a wide speed range. So, many attempts are being done from home appliances to industrial machinery and tools. Especially, a traction drive of an SRM is one of a good application for it's DC-series characteristic. However, because of the switching mechanism, it has some disadvantage of noise and vibration. It is difficult to adopt to an appliance demanding silency. A noise simulation of 6/4 and 12/8 SRM was done in order to compare each other, and the design was done carefully.

  • A slotless Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) has good control ability but thrust density is low. So, this paper proposes inserted core type of slotless PMLSM to improve its low thrust density. Inserting the core between windings of each phase, detent force is generated by the difference of magnetic resistance in an air gap. To minimize detent force and maxize thrust, this paper applies the neural network to inserted core type of slotless PMLSM.

  • This paper presents a study on the indirect FOC (field oriented control) of induction motor using TMS320F240. This DSP has become possible to design and implement a highly efficient and accurate AC induction drive control. This paper describes a pulse width modulator based on the voltage space vectors technique that accepts voltage demands in dq coordinates and generates three-phase PWM waveforms to drive a variable frequency voltage-source inverter. The Current Model lock is added to generate the rotor flux angular speed.

  • Switched Reluctance Motors(SRM) are a promising candidated automotive drives of the next generations. The successful commercialization of SRM drives in automobiles depends highly on the developments of SRM design and control techniques. This paper descrives the control issues of SRMs, ranging from drive system structure, rotor position sensing and torque control. Both simulation studies and test results are presented for a 160W SRM drive for automotive application.

  • This paper presents evaluation and comparisons of manual driving and driving with intelligent cruise control(ICC) systems. An intelligent vehicle cruise control strategy has been designed to achieve natural vehicle behavior of the controlled vehicle that would make human driver feel comfortable and therefore would increase driver acceptance. The evaluation and comparisons of the ICC and manual driving have been conducted using real-world vehicle driving data and an ICC vehicle simulator.

  • This paper describes the ultra precise position estimation of a servomotor using a sinusoidal encoder based on Arcsine Interpolation Method for the cost reduction of circuit design. The amplitude and offset errors of the sinusoidal encoder output signals, from the encoder itself and analog signal processing procedures, are effectively compensated and on-line tuned by utilizing a low cost programmable differential amplifier without any special expensive equipment. For a theoretical evaluation of the practical resolution of this system, the relationship between the amplitude of ADC(Analog to Digital Converter) input signal errors and the anticipated resolution is also addressed. The performance of the proposed method is verified by comparing it with speed control characteristics of the servomotor driving system using a digital incremental 50,000ppr encoder in the experiments.

  • This paper presents a novel design of a fuzzy control strategy (FCS) based on torque distribution for parallel hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). An empirical load-regulating vehicle operation strategy is developed on the basis of analysis of the components efficiency map data and the overall energy conversion efficiency. The aim of the strategy is to optimize the fuel economy and balance the battery state-of-charge (SOC), while satisfying the vehicle performance and drivability requirements. In order to accomplish this strategy, a fuzzy inference engine with a rule-base extracted from the empirical strategy is designed, which works as the kernel of a fuzzy torque distribution controller to determine the optimal distribution of the driver torque request between the engine and the motor. Simulation results reveal that compared with the conventional strategy which uses precise threshold parameters the proposed FCS improves fuel economy as well as maintains better battery SOC within its operation range.
