  • This paper presents a S-FES(Superconducting magnetic becuing Flywheel Energy Storage System) for the p purpose of replacing battery used to store the energy. Especially, the design elements of FES, such as the b beming, wheel mateηaI, and power converter, etc., are described. The design and manufacturing techniques of t the controllable IXlwer converter are proposed to generate the sinusoidal output current in the high speed operation and to get the const빠synchronous motor with halbach cuTay of high coesive I\d-Fe-B permanent magnet is used as the driver of F FES. The proposed S-FES system shows the stable rotation characteristics at high speed range about l 10,000[rpm]. To verify the validity of proposed system, the comparative study with the conventional ball b beming s~rstem is proceeded and it is well confirmed with the result of the lower friction losses of S-FES S system.

  • Diaphragm compressor is widely used for hydrogen compression because it achieves high gas pressure without gas contamination. Diaphragm deflecting in the cavity with high pressure formed by an oil compression is the most important component in the compressor. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain deflection degree of diaphragm to predict the damage point of diaphragm. The objective of this study is to estimate the diaphragm's damage point through diaphragm deflection test by implementing with strain gauges attached on several radial points. Without gas compression, strain sum of each points varied as similarly as the variation of the pressure with respect to time. And while the motor speed was slower than 400rpm, the strain near the rim was larger than that of the center. When motor speed, however, was over 500rpm, strain became similar to that of the center and the rim. With gas compression, it was shown that the variation of the strain sum was delayed against that of the pressure and the strain near the rim was much higher than that of the center.

  • DME, a clean fuel that is being studied as an alternative fuel for diesel engines, can reduce exhaust gas, which is the one of the crucial problems of diesel engines, and has a very high cetane number and high oxygen content. DME is a fuel has properties similar with LPG and can use the infrastructure of LPG. In this study, The target was to build a database of basic data on the mass flow rate discharged for the performance evaluation of the plunger-type high pressure pump. In this study, the mass flow rate of the DME plunger type high pressure pump was analyzed by changing the common rail pressure and the motor rotation speed. The experimental conditions were the common rail pressure was changed from 300 to 500 bar and the motor rotation speed was changed from 300 to 1000 rpm. In addition, basic mass flow data were constructed to high-pressure pumps for DME. As a result of the experiment, in both cases the mass flow rate was increased.

  • This paper studies electrostatically suspended induction motors (ESIM). The ESIM possesses the rotating ability of an ordinary electrostatic induction motor, in addition to providing contactless support by electrostatic suspension. To accomplish these two functions, a feedback control strategy and the operating principle of an ordinary electrostatic induction motor are used. The stator possesses electrodes which exert the electrostatic forces to the rotor and are divided into a part responsible for suspension and one for rotation. Two rotor types are utilized: a polished glass disk without any surface treatment, and a polished glass disk covered with a thin layer of conductive material (ITO layer) on only one side. In this paper, the principle of the ESIM is described, followed by stator electrode design, experimental apparatus, control strategy for stable suspension. Experimental results show that the glass disk has been rotated with a speed of approximately 70 rpm while being suspended stably at a gap length of 0.3 mm.

  • Frictions and electrical contact voltages of the herringbone-grooved hydrodynamic bearing(HHB) were 9, measured to use in a laser scanner motor. This bearing with varying loads, speeds, oil viscosity, and radial clearances successfully operated up to 28,000rpm and 0.5N. Experimental results under various environments confirmed that this bearing had excellent performance with low friction force, and operated without contact between shaft and sleeve.

  • A motor-integrated high-speed spindle system with .psi. 65*25, 000rpm is modeled for analytical and experimental studies related to the dynamic characteristics. And the systematic and rational identification processes for evaluating the material properties of spindle and built-in motor is introduced. The impulse excitation method is applied for the experimental model testing, and the dynamic characteristics of test model is theoretically analysed by using the finite element method based on Timoshenko theory. Especially, the experimental and theoetical results reveal that the test model under the required operational conditions has no critical problem for dynamic characteristics.

  • This study is about development of remote controlled bollard using the BLDC motor mechatronics theory. A bollard is composed of the sensor part and the control part. The sensor part is consisted of sensors that detect the locations of a bollard. The role of the control part are adjusting motor speed and power through variable resistance. In order to confirm required performance, The speed of decent and ascent of the bollard, the time and the RPM of BLDC motor were tested according to the variable resistance and the load.

  • This paper place the focus the development of treadmill for rat in order to verify the effectiveness of exercise therapy. Up to now, in many medical laboratories treadmill have had to be remodeled for experiments with animal. Thus, it is necessary to develop the treadmills for animals only including rats. The treadmill has a DC motor which can make 600 revolutions per minute(600 RPM) and tension of the belt of the treadmill can be adjusted to prevent shift of the belt to any side. Velocity can be selected from 10m to 30m per minute increasing by 1m. The motor is controled by pulse width modulation(PWM) control mode using a 8bit microprocessor. In the future, the roller and motor need to be combined for improvement of stability and decrease of noise.

  • The feasibility of an oil-free, motor-driven, two-stage centrifugal compressor supported by air bump bearings is investigated. This centrifugal compressor is driven by a 75 kW motor at an operating speed of 39,000 RPM, and a pressure ratio of the compressor is set up to 4. The analysis is performed by using bearing equilibrium position, heaving stillness, Campbell diagram, unbalance response, and stability. It is demonstrated in this paper that air bump bearings can be adopted well to an oil-free, motor-driven, centrifugal compressor. Specially, Cu-coated bump bearings have enough damping force to reduce a synchronous unbalance for rigid modes of the two-stage compressor. Futhermore, this concept may be applied to the flexible rotor system such as high speed turbomachinery with a super critical speed.
