In this paper. we Propose an UXGA class LCD controller for controlling the LCD panel. The proposed controller supports the full screen display using GCD between input and output resolutions. The proposed LCD controller includes the motion detector based on median filter which can detect the motion of input image for the enhancement of a image quality. Also, it divides the motion into 3 stages such as still, semi-moving and moving, and uses the different interpolation algorithms according to the degree of motion. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed interpolation algorithm, we use PSNR method and compare the conventional algorithm by using computer simulation. For the proposed motion detection algorithm, we use a visual verification and the estimation of pixel changes. The proposed LCD controller has been designed and verified by VHDL. It has been synthesized using Xilinx VirtexE FPGA.

Flow rate is one of the important variables for precise motion control and detection of the faults and fluid loss in many hydraulic components and systems. But in many cases, it is not easy to measure it directly. The orifice area of a servo valve by which the fluid flows is one of key factors to monitor the flow rate. In this paper, we have constructed an estimation algorithm for the effective orifice area by using the model of a servo valve cylinder control system and Kalman filter algorithm. Without geometry information about the servo valve, it is shown that the effective orifice area can be estimated by using only displacement and pressure data corrupted with noise. And the effect of the biased sensor data and system parameter errors on the estimation results are discussed. The paper reveals that sensor calibration is important in accurate estimation and plausible parameter data such as oil bulk modulus and actuator volume are acceptable for the estimation without any error. The estimation algorithm can be used as an useful tool for detecting leakage, monitoring malfunction and/or degradation of the system performance.
Estimation of vertical position is critical in applications of sports science and fall detection and also controls of unmanned aerial vehicles and motor boats. Due to low accuracy of GPS(global positioning system) in the vertical direction, the integration of IMU(inertial measurement unit) with the GPS is not suitable for the vertical position estimation. This paper investigates an IMU-barometer integration for estimation of vertical position (as well as vertical velocity). In particular, a new two-step Kalman/complementary filter is proposed for accurate and efficient estimation using 6-axis IMU and barometer signals. The two-step filter is composed of (i) a Kalman filter that estimates vertical acceleration via tilt orientation of the sensor using the IMU signals and (ii) a complementary filter that estimates vertical position using the barometer signal and the vertical acceleration from the first step. The estimation performance was evaluated against a reference optical motion capture system. In the experimental results, the averaged estimation error of the proposed method was 19.7 cm while that of the raw barometer signal was 43.4 cm.

Gaze detection is to locate the position on a monitor screen where a user is looking. In our work, we implement it with a computer vision system setting a single camera above a monitor and a user moves (rotates and/or translates) his face to gaze at a different position on the monitor. To detect the gaze position, we locate facial region and facial features(both eyes, nostrils and lip corners) automatically in 2D camera images. From the movement of feature points detected in starting images, we can compute the initial 3D positions of those features by camera calibration and parameter estimation algorithm. Then, when a user moves(rotates and/or translates) his face in order to gaze at one position on a monitor, the moved 3D positions of those features can be computed from 3D rotation and translation estimation and affine transform. Finally, the gaze position on a monitor is computed from the normal vector of the plane determined by those moved 3D positions of features. As experimental results, we can obtain the gaze position on a monitor(19inches) and the gaze position accuracy between the computed positions and the real ones is about 2.01 inches of RMS error.
This paper presents vision-based 3D facial expression animation technique and system which provide the robust 3D head pose estimation and real-time facial expression control. Many researches of 3D face animation have been done for the facial expression control itself rather than focusing on 3D head motion tracking. However, the head motion tracking is one of critical issues to be solved for developing realistic facial animation. In this research, we developed an integrated animation system that includes 3D head motion tracking and facial expression control at the same time. The proposed system consists of three major phases: face detection, 3D head motion tracking, and facial expression control. For face detection, with the non-parametric HT skin color model and template matching, we can detect the facial region efficiently from video frame. For 3D head motion tracking, we exploit the cylindrical head model that is projected to the initial head motion template. Given an initial reference template of the face image and the corresponding head motion, the cylindrical head model is created and the foil head motion is traced based on the optical flow method. For the facial expression cloning we utilize the feature-based method, The major facial feature points are detected by the geometry of information of the face with template matching and traced by optical flow. Since the locations of varying feature points are composed of head motion and facial expression information, the animation parameters which describe the variation of the facial features are acquired from geometrically transformed frontal head pose image. Finally, the facial expression cloning is done by two fitting process. The control points of the 3D model are varied applying the animation parameters to the face model, and the non-feature points around the control points are changed by use of Radial Basis Function(RBF). From the experiment, we can prove that the developed vision-based animation system can create realistic facial animation with robust head pose estimation and facial variation from input video image.
The goal of this paper is to describe an advanced method of a crack detection: a new way to localize position and to estimate depth of a crack on rotating shaft. As a first step, the shaft is physically modelled with a finite element method and the dynamic mathematical model is derived using the Hamilton principle; thus, the system is represented by various subsystems. The equations of motion of the shaft with a crack are established by adapting the local stiffness change through breathing and gaping from the crack to an undamaged shaft. This is the reference system for the given system. Based on a model for transient behavior induced from vibration measured at the bearings, a nonlinear state observer is designed to detect cracks on the shaft. This is the elementary NL-observer (Beo). Using the observer, an Estimator (Observer Bank) is established and arranged at the certain position on the shaft. When a crack position is localized, the procedure for estimating of the depth is engaged.
In this paper, we propose a new method of converting 2D video into 3D stereoscopic video, called stereoscopic conversion. In general, stereoscopic images are produced using the motion informations. However unreliable motion informations obtained especially from block-based motion estimation cause the wrong generation of stereoscopic images. To solve for this problem, we propose a stereoscopic conversion method based upon the utilization of key frame that has the better accuracy of estimated motion informations. As well, as generation scheme of stereoscopic images associated with the motion type of each key frame is proposed. For the performance evaluation of our proposed method, we apply it to five test images and measure the accuracy of key frame-based stereoscopic conversion. Experimental results show that our proposed method has the accuracy more than about 90 percent in terms of the detection ratio of key frames.

When detecting underwater targets using echo sounder, the echo signals varies with the angular displacement of the transducer due to ship's motion. Then, the effect of the angular which effects the capability of the echo sounder must be investigated in relation to the detection of fish concentration, particularly, the abundance estimation of fish. In this pater, as the basic research to investigate the effect of the ship's motion when estimating the fish stocks by acoustic methods, the authors was theoritically considered the variations in the values of the two way directivity function of transducer in the direction of the targets which caused by the angular motion of transducer. Here, the effects of the movement of target and ship's running are neglected. At the same time, the data was applied to estimate the angular shift of the detectable area of echo sounder due to transducer displacement. From the results analyzed, we found that the angular shift of the detectable area due to ship's motion increases both as the roll angle increases and as the beamwidth becomes narrower, varies with the depth.

In this paper, an efficient dynamic reactive motion planning method for an autonomous vehicle in a dynamic environment is proposed. The purpose of the proposed method is to improve the robustness of autonomous robot motion planning capabilities within dynamic, uncertain environments by integrating a virtual plane-based reactive motion planning technique with a sensor fusion-based obstacle detection approach. The dynamic reactive motion planning method assumes a local observer in the virtual plane, which allows the effective transformation of complex dynamic planning problems into simple stationary ones proving the speed and orientation information between the robot and obstacles. In addition, the sensor fusion-based obstacle detection technique allows the pose estimation of moving obstacles using a Kinect sensor and sonar sensors, thus improving the accuracy and robustness of the reactive motion planning approach. The performance of the proposed method was demonstrated through not only simulation studies but also field experiments using multiple moving obstacles in hostile dynamic environments.
General scene change detection determines the changes of a scene by using feature comparison of two continuous images that are above the fixed threshold. But existing algerian detects scene change that was used in comparing the features of two images continuously, it usually takes a lot of time in decrypting the image data and false-detection problem occurs when there is an object motion or a change of illumination. In this paper, macroblock were used to extract the information directly from the MPEG compression area and suggests algorithm that will detect scene changes more effectively. Existing algorithm have shown numerous arithmetic problems that were improved in the proposed algorithm. The existing algorithm cannot detect the changes of a scene after analyzing the relationship of the previousand futureimages while the algorithm being proposed can detect the changes of a scene continuously and resolves the problem of false-detection. To this end, the data used in general were tested to prove that this algerian would be able to detect the scene changes faster and more correctly than the existing ones. The performance of the suggested algorithm was analyzed basedontheresultsoftheexperiment. .
