A Numerical simulation for the propulsion of axisymmetric body by contractive and dilative motion is carried out. The present analysis shows that a propulsive force can be obtained in highly viscous fluid by a contractive and dilative motion of axisymmetric body. An axisymmetric analysis code is developed with unstructured grid system for the simulation of complicated motion and geometry. The developed code is validated by comparing with the results of stokes approximation with the problem of uniform flow past a sphere in low Reynolds number($R_n=1$). The validated code is applied to the simulation of contractive and dilative motion of body. The simulation is extended to the analysis of waving surface with projecting part for finding out the difference of hydrodynamic performance according to the variation of waving surface configuration. The present study will be the basic research for the development of the propulsor of an axisymmetric micro-hydro-machine.
Most codes of practice state that for large in-plane structures it is necessary to account for the spatial variability of earthquake ground motion. There are essentially three effects that contribute for this variation: (i) wave passage effect, due to finite propagation velocity; (ii) incoherence effect, due to differences in superposition of waves; and (iii) the local site amplification due to spatial variation in geological conditions. This paper discusses the procedures to be undertaken in the time domain analysis of a cable-stayed bridge under spatial variability of earthquake ground motion. The artificial synthesis of correlated displacements series that simulate the earthquake load is discussed first. Next, it is described the 3D model of the International Guadiana Bridge used for running tests with seismic analysis. A comparison of the effects produced by seismic waves with different apparent propagation velocities and different geological conditions is undertaken. The results in this study show that the differences between the analysis with and without spatial variability of earthquake ground motion can be important for some displacements and internal forces, especially those influenced by symmetric modes.
This paper presents a computer method for the dynamic analysis of a system of rigid bodies in plane motion. The formulation rests upon the idea of replacing a rigid body by a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles. Newton's second law is applied to study the motion of the resulting system of particles without introducing any rotational coordinates. A velocity transformation is used to transform the equations of motion to a reduced set. For an open-chain, this process automatically eliminates all of the non-working constraint forces and leads to an efficient integration of the equations of motion. For a closed-chain, suitable joints should be cut and few cut-joints constraint equations should be included. An example of a closed-chain is used to demonstrate the generality and efficiency of the proposed method.

This paper provides a motion analysis of soft-fingertip object manipulation tasks by presenting a dynamic model of multi-fingered object manipulations with soft fingertips. It is fundamentally observed that soft fingertips employed in a multi-fingered hand generate some deformation effects during the manipulation process and also that those effects are closely related to the behavior of the manipulated object. In order to analyze the motion of using soft fingertips, a dynamic manipulation control scheme is presented. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the motion of soft-fingertips applied in object manipulating tasks and are further used to discuss the characteristics of soft-fingertip motions.
In this paper, we propose the method that separates PPG signal and motion artifact signal from two input signals using new independent component analysis algorithm in time domain. In order to eliminate the large level artifact efficiently, block interleaving. lowpass time filtering and innovation processing technique were applied in ICA preprocessing, and FastICA algorithm were applicable. Experiments are made with the numerical simulation and the real PPG signal including four kinds of motion artifact pattern. Our results show that ICA can effectively detect, separate and remove motion artifact in input signals. Then from the separated signals we restore the original PPG signal and propose a new method which computes SpO$_2$ using ICA mixing matrix.
Dynamic analysis method is Presented for analyzing rectangular liquid storage structures excited by horizontal and vertical ground motions. The irrotational motion of invicid and incompressible ideal fluid in rigid rectangular liquid storage structures subjected to horizontal and vertical ground motions and the motion of fluid induced by structural deformation are expressed by analytic solutions. Analysis methods are obtained by applying analytic solutions of the fluid motion to finite element equation of the structural motion. The fluid-structure interaction effect is reflected into the coupled equation as added fluid mass matrix. The free surface sloshing motion, hydrodynamic pressure acting on the wall and structural behavior due to horizontal and vertical ground motions are obtained by the presented method.
Generally Cam-Follower systems consist of two elements: Cam is for rotating motion and follower for reciprocating motion. Depending on the shape of cam and type of follower, the motion of cam-follower system is determined. Thus design process and analysis process must be well defined. The design process means to find the coordinates of cam shape which can be defined the given motion of follower and the analysis process means to determine the motion curve of follower corresponding to the given cam based on the dimensions of a cam-follower system. This paper consists of two parts: One is development of a numerical method for design and analysis of cam-follower systems, the other is for development of a CAD program and its application. As the first part of the paper, an iterative contact method is proposed. This method can calculate the contact points between cam and roller and determine their contact angles iteratively. The second part of the paper presents the structure of a CAD program and its availability to the industrial applications.
The bulk motion of star clusters can be determined after careful membership analysis using parametric or non-parametric approaches. This study aims to implement non-parametric membership analysis based on Binned Kernel Density Estimators which takes into account measurements errors (simply called BKDE-e) to determine the average proper motion of each cluster. This method is applied to 178 selected star clusters with angular diameters less than 20 arcminutes. Proper motion data from UCAC4 are used for membership determination. Non-parametric analysis using BKDE-e successfully determined the average proper motion of 129 clusters, with good accuracy. Compared to COCD and NCOVOCC, there are 79 clusters with less than $3{\sigma}$ difference. Moreover, we are able to analyse the distribution of the member stars in vector point diagrams which is not always a normal distribution.
PPG signal measured by pulse oximeter can measure pulse and the oxygen saturation of arterial blood. But the PPG signal is distorted by finger movement or other movement in the body. To detect pulse from the PPG signal with motion artifact, we use band pass filter(BPF), Independent component analysis(ICA) and nonlinear autocorrelation(NAC). BPF is used to remove DC component and high frequency noise in the PPG signal with motion artifacts. ICA is used to separate pulse signal and motion artifact. However, pulse signal separated by ICA have no choice but to accompany signal distortion because pulse signal and motion artifact are not completely independent. So, we use nonlinear autocorrelation to emphasize the pure pulse signal from the distorted signal.
In this paper, a comparison of various random vibration and deterministic dynamic analyses of cable-stayed bridges subjected to asynchronous ground motion is presented. Different random vibration methods are included to determine the dynamic behaviour of a cable-stayed bridge for various ground motion wave velocities. As a numerical example the Jindo Bridge located in South Korea is chosen and a 413 DOF mathematical model is employed for this bridge. The results obtained from a spectral analysis approach are compared with those of two random vibration based response spectrum methods and a deterministic method. The analyses suggest that the structural responses usually show important amplifications depending on the decreasing ground motion wave velocities.
