Anatomic correction of the transposition of the great arteries (TGA) or Taussig-Bing anomaly by means of the arterial switch operation is now accepted as the therapeutic method of choice. This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the risk factors for operative deaths and the efficacy of technical modification of the coronary transfer. 85 arterial switch operations for TGA or Taussig-Bing anomaly which were performed by one surgeon from 1994 to July 2002 at Dong-A university hospital were included in this retrospective study Multivariate analysis of perioperative variables for operative mortality including technical modification of the coronary transfer was peformed. Overall postoperative hospital mortality was 20.0% (17/85). The mortality before 1998 was 31.0% (13/42), but reduced to 9.3% (4/43) from 1998. The mortality in the patients with arch anomaly was 61.5% (8/13), but 12.5% (9/72) in those without arch anomaly. In patients who underwent an open coronary reimplantation technique, the operative mortality was 28.1% (18/64), but 4.8% (1/21) in patients undergoing a technique of reimplantation coronary buttons after neoarotic reconstruction. Risk factors for operative death from multivariated analysis were cardiopulmonary bypass time ($\geq$ 250 minutes), aortic cross-clamping time ($\geq$ 150 minutes), aortic arch anomaly, preoperative event, and open coronary reimplantation technique. Operative mortality has been reduced with time. Aortic arch anomaly and preoperative events were important risk factors for postoperative mortality. However atypical coronary artery patterns did not work as risk factors. We think that the technical modification of coronary artery transfer played an important role in reducing the postoperative mortality of arterial switch operation.

The purpose of this study was to examine the anti allergic effect in vivo and in vitro, and to observe single and four weeks repeated toxicity in mice of Bangpung-galgeun-tang (BGT). We investigated anti DNP IgE-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in rodents and compound 48/80-induced active systemic anaphylatic shock in mice after oral administration with BGT of 0.4 g/kg and 0.8 g/kg for 8 days, and also examined MTT assay, ${\beta}-hexosaminidase$ activity, IL-4 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ from RBL-2H3 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ from Raw264.7 after pre-treatment with BGT of 0.25 mg/ml, 0.5 mg/ml, 1 mg/ml and 2 mg/ml. To ascertain safety and toxicity of BGT, we divided into single and four weeks repeated administration test. In single test, three groups were administrated different dosages and routes (2 g/kg/i.p., 4 g/kg/i.p. and 15 g/kg /p.o.) of BGT, and in four weeks repeated test, 0.8 g/kg BGT was administrated. Control groups were administrated with only saline according to on Korean Food and Drug Administration, respectively. We observed attentively motality, abnormal clinical sign, body weight change, organ weight, AST and ALT of mice after BGT administration. BGT inhibited passive cutaneous anaphylaxis and active systemic anaphylatic shock by oral administration. All the concentrations of BGT from 0.25 to 2 mg/ml didn't have an effect on cell viability and cytotoxicity. In RBL-2H3, ${\beta}-hexosaminidase$ release, IL-4 and $TNF-{\alpha}$, and in Raw264.7, $TNF-{\alpha}$ were significantly reduced by treated all concentrations of BGT. During toxicity experiment period, there was no difference in body weight change, organ weight, AST and ALT among different dose groups. Death were found 3 mice from day 2 to day 3 in single test i.p. group. (2 g/kg, 4 g/kg). Several individuals of single test i.p. group were observed that decreased locomotor activity, exophthalmos, bloodshot eyes, loss of eyesight and so on in early period after administration. But there was no difference in clinical signs among p.o. group. These results indicate that BGT have inhibition effects on allergy and suggest that no observable effect level of the test orally administration was considered to be more than 2 g/kg in mice under the conditions employed in this study.
Selection of breeds, adequate environment and sanitary condition must be considered to improve production ability. Minimizing of production cost through reasonable management and farm system can introduce maximizing net income. Followings are the summary of poultry industry in Japan: (1) To decreasing consumers Price and to gurantee the quality of eggs, poultry farms changed their farm system as complex which contain feed factory, GP center and processing factory as well as raising laying hens. (2) Broiler farms moved from suburbs to several remote from cites owing to development of transferation , and rising price of land. (3) The egg Price in Japan was depended on season. From fall to spring, the Price was usually rised due to increased consumption, and from May to August the price always dropped. (4) The average production per one you was around 17kg/hen and average feed consumption was around 2.45. Rearing rate was around 98.5% and motality of hens was around 7%. And one person reared 15,000-20,000 hens in over 100 thousand chicken reared farms even though average ability per person showed 3,266 hens.
The purposes of this study was to describe the clinical correlation of mass size and gestational age, prognostic factors in sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) at a tertiary pediatric surgery, University of Ulsan College of Medicine and Asan Medical Center (AMC), Seoul, Korea. Fifty five patients admitted to the AMC with a SCT between May 1989 and April 2013 were included in this retrospective review. Mean follow up was 861 days. Mean maternal age at delivery was $30{\pm}2.7$ year, mean gestational age (GA) was $36.9{\pm}3.6$ wks, and preterm delivery was 21.8%. Birth body weight was $3182{\pm}644$ g and male vs. female ratio was 1:2.05. We can't find significant difference between Caesarean section and maternal age at delivery (p =0.817). But, caesarean section was favored by gestational age (p = 0.002), larger tumor size (p =0.029) or higher tumor weight fraction rate to birth body weight (p =0.024). Type I was 13, II 21, III 17, and IV 3 according to Altman et al. classification. The tumor component was predominantly cystic(> 50%) in 73.1 %. And the majority histological classification of tumors were mature teratoma (70.3%). The motality rate was 5.5%. Three patients expired because of postpartum bleeding, post-op bleeding related complication such as DIC. SCT recurred in four patients. The interval between first and second operation was $206.2{\pm}111.0$ d (range 53~325 d). In two patients, serum AFP levels were elevated at a regular checkup without any symptom, and subsequent imaging studies revealed SCT. The most common cause of death was bleeding and bleeding related complication. So Caesarean section and active peripartum and perioperative management will be needed for huge solid SCT. In the case of Yolk sac tumor or huge immature teratoma, possibility of recurrence have to be always considered, so follow up by serial AFP and MRI is important for SCT management.
This work was carried out to investigate the phenotypic, genotypic, and environmental correlations between the number of the egg markings and other metric characters, and their heritability, with eight varieties in Bombyx mori L. Five European varieties, ten Chinese varieties and ten Japanese varieties were used to know the average number of the egg markings and their variabilities for each strains. The results may be summarized as follows: 1) there were highly negatively phenotypic and genotypic correlations between the number of the egg markings and total cocoon weight, weight of cocoon layer, or denier, but not an environmental correlation. 2) The average number of the egg markings in Chinese strain was more than that in other strains. 3) The correlation between the motality and the number of egg markings seemed not to be found. 4) The heritability of the weight of cocoon layer and the bave length was less than that of total cocoon weight, denier and number of egg markings. 5) The more the number of the polyhedral particles in an egg marking group became, the more the total number of egg markings increased. 6) The variation of the number of the egg markings in European strain was larger than that in any other strains. 7) It is expected that the selection for the number of the egg markings may have genetic advances of total cocoon weight, weight of cocoon layer, or denier. Especially the selection for the number of the egg markings before rearing will save the silkworm rearing cost.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of season and location on activities of enzyme produced by psychrotrophic bacteria isolated from raw milk located in Kyunggi region of South Korea. Agar diffusion and colorimetric methods were used for the lipase and protease activities of psychrotrophic bacteria. Intensities of dark blue and transparent ring around colony were compared for activity measurement. Nutrient agar with 1% skim milk added was employed for measuing protease activity. 14 strains of Arthrobacter russicus with lipase activity and 19 strains of Chryserobacterium shigense with protease activities were found to be present. It was found that Acinetobacter genomospecies 10 (match %: 99.90) isolated from B region in fall was the most lipolytic species, whereas Serratia liquefaciens (match %: 99.39) isolated from the same region in spring was the most proteolytic species. Growth curve of Acinetobacte and Serratia liquefaciens was a typical sigmoidal form. Lipase activity increased with incubation time, but its activity began to drop at stationary to motality phase. Optimum condition for incubation time, pH and temperature for extracellular lipase from Acinetobacter genomospecies 10 (match %: 99.90) was 12 h, 8.5, and $45^{\circ}C$, respectively. Extracellular protease from Serratia liquefaciens (match %:99.39) had the same optimum incubation time and pH as extracellular lipase, but optimum temperature was $35^{\circ}C$.
The causes of stroke are presumed hypertension, atherosclerosis,. cardiac disease, diabetes mellitus and old age and risk factors of stroke are suggested hypertension, hyperlipidemia. obesity, smoking and drinking etc. Especilly, hypertension is one of the most important cause and risk factor of stroke, therfore without therapy hypertension leads to stroke. The frequence of hypertension is significantly higher in hemorrhage patients of intracranial hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Antihypertensive therapy has an impact not only on the primary prevention of stroke but also on stroke recurrence and the declining of stroke motality has been attributed to the widespread availability and use of antihypertensive therapy. The goals of antihypertensive therapy decrease the complications and motalitv of cardiovascular system and prevent the promoting arteriosclerosis. In this study, we observed the blood pressure change of cb-hemorrhagic patients with hypertension who were hospitalized from 1996. 3. 1 to 1997. 2 .26 in Wonkwang Oriental Hospital. These patients had no antihypertensive therapy and were supplied herb med(Jaum sikpoongtang, Chungrijagamtang, Gojinumja) in medication. Our results suggested as follows. 1. Systolic and diastolic average BP at admission is $150.71{\pm}15.61mmHg$ and $95.00{\pm}8.8mmHg$ and this is hypertension state defining WHO 2. During one week in admission, the blood pressure demostrated a marked declination by SBP 8.97mmHg and DBP 6.22mmHg. 3. During two week in admission, the declination of SBP was significant in paired t-test(p<0.05) but, the declination of DBP was non-significant in paired t-test. 4. The blood pressure during third and fourth weeks gradually declined but, non-significant in test. According to the above results, we suggested that the BP declination Was affected by $Jamyang{\cdot}Jaum$ prescriptions in acute stage of cerebral hemorrhage.
Lactobacillus acidophilus KY 2104 was isolated from 41 healthy korean ($2{\sim}35\;age$, 26 man, 15 woman) feces to use as a probiotic lactic acid bacteria for functional foods, fermented milk and pharmaceutical products. L. acidophilus KY 2104 survived in the presence of acid and bile, and inhibited pathogens. It survived almost 100% in pH 3.0 phosphate buffer for 2 hr, and more than $10^4\;cfu/mL$ in pH 2.0 phosphate buffer when inoculated by $10^7\;cfu/mL$. It was also found to grow in MRS medium containing 0.5% oxgall. L. acidophilus KY 2104 exerted inhibitory effect against enteric pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium, when grown with each in associative cultures for 16 hr. As a result of acute toxicity of L. acidophilus KY 2104 in rats, there was no observation on motality, clinical signs, body weights and gross findings in the oral administration.
Some characteristics and pathogenicity of Hyphantria cunea nuclear polyhedrosis virus (HcNPV), a potential microbial pesticide was studied. H. cunea NPV replicated in the nucleus of S. frugiperda cells cultured in the TNMFH medium. In case of virus infected cell, prepolyhedra formation was observed at 24hrs post-infection. At 48 hrs post-infection, Most of the infected cell contained many mature polyhedra which were released into culture media 72 hrs post-infection, with the cells grown in suspension culture, pH of the culture medium increased during the virus replication: the pH of fresh medium was 6.35 and rose to 6.77 within 120 hrs. Polyhedra formed a band in linear density gradient of sucrose by centrifugation, which co-sedimented with $50{\sim}55%$ sucrose. The shape of the purified polyhedra was mostly tetragonal hexahedron and its size was about $2.5{\mu}m$. Electron microscopy and phase contrast microscopy showed that many bundled nucleocapsids were occluded in mature polyhedra at 48 hrs post infection. H. cunea larvae infected with NPV showed a higher motality in the second and third instar than in the fourth instar. Death rate of H. cunea larvae in the second and third instar fed with leaves coated with $1.5{\times}10^{9}{\sim}l.5{\times}10^{7}PIBs/ml$ reached more than 90%.
This study was examined to investigate the effect of wood carbonization products on growth and body composition of oliver flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus) as a part of fishery utilization of charcoal and pyroligneous acid. Weight gain in oliver flounder fed with wood carbonization products was higher than that of the control group. Feed efficiency between the groups fed with charcoal and Mogchotan(the mixture of charcoal and pyroligneous acid, 80:20, w/w) and the control group showed no significant difference(p>0.05) and was significantly higher in group fed with pyroligneous acid than the control group(p<0.05). All groups fed with wood carbonization products were also higher than the control group in hemoglobin and hematocrit. Especially, the amount of both components was significantly higher in group fed with Mogchotan(p<0.05). The result indicates that the addition of Mogchotan can improve the health of oliver flounder, and was excellent in the mortality and the recovery rate. In conclusion, Mogchotan treatment would be suitable way for improving the growth and health of oliver flounder.
