  • Support Vector Machine (SVM) is one of powerful learning machine and has been applied to varying task with generally acceptable performance. The success of SVM for classification tasks in one domain is affected by features which represent the instance of specific class. Given the representative and discriminative features, SVM learning will give good generalization and consequently we can obtain good classifier. In this paper, we will assess the problem of feature choices for human detection tasks and measure the performance of each feature. Here we will consider HOG-family feature. As a natural extension of SVM, we combine SVM with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce dimension of features while retaining most of discriminative feature vectors.

  • Avascular necrosis of the first metatarsal head is uncommon. It is most often seen following a distal metatarsal osteotomy for hallux valgus. Although many cases may be subclinical, it is a powerful cause of failure of bunion surgery. Avascular necrosis of the first metatarsal head results in a series of events that begins with phases of avascularity; revascularization, with or without collapse; and reossification. Collapse may result in degenerative change of the metatarsophalangeal joint. We have recently experienced a case of avascular necrosis of the first metatarsal head.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the degree of Internet addiction and factors influencing this addiction among high school students in Korea. Method: A total of 405 high school students in the Gyeoung-gi, Daegu and Gyeoung-buk areas were surveyed using questionnaires for data collection. Results: Internet addiction among high school students in Korea was relatively low. In the overall ratio distribution, however, the students who were classified as either addicted or at risk of addiction accounted for a high percentage of the students, 31.1%. Positive or negative relationships were found between internet addiction and the research variables but multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of Internet addiction was depression. Conclusion: Using the above results, it is necessary to develop Internet addiction prevention programs for adolescents. There should be a more comprehensive study in the future for an in-depth understanding of internet addiction of adolescents.

  • the purpose of this research was to investigate rewards costs and adjustment perceived by adult children in three generation family. Data were collected from 132 marital couples in three generation family in Seoul area. The results of this study showed that there were significant differences in the levels of rewards costs and adjustment variables (self-esteem depression family life satisfaction and marital satisfaction)between husbands are wives. It was also found that wives's costs and husbands' rewards were significantly different across three different types of three generation family. It addition the results of multiple regression analyses indicated that reward was the most powerful variable affecting wives' depression and family life satisfaction and that cost influenced husbands' family life satisfaction and marital satisfaction.

  • Inthe study, a method to evaluate the door closing sound has been developed. Based on the factor analysis, various adjective pairs which describe meaning of the door impact sound have been differentiated. This approach, called Semantic difference(SD) method, was originally developed in linguistics research on order to compare diverse mother tongue. This paper introduces at first how the door sound os generated and transmitted. After that, a factor analysis which is a tool of SD method is implemented to door closing sound for 12 domestic and 1 foreign car models. During investigation, the examined models are categorized into small, medium and luxurious size automobiles. The adjective pairs which attritbute to the door quality have been factorized into three group : expensive/ smooth, powerful/ heavy, and modern/dull. It turns out that the first factor : expensive/ smooth plays the most important role in door closing sound quality.

  • Dynamic robust design has been regarded as the most powerful design methodology for improving product quality, Dynamic SN ratio adopted in dynamic robust design combines two major quality attributes, the variability around the linear function and the slope of the linear function, into a single design metric. The principal shortcoming associated with the dynamic SN ratio is that the metric is independent of designer's preferences for the quality attributes due to priori sets of attribute tradeoff values inherent in it. Therefore, a more rigorous preferencebased design metric to accurately capture designer's intent and preference is needed. A new design metric that can be used in dynamic robust design is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed design metric is examined with the aid of a demonstrative case study and the results are discussed.

  • China is one of the countries in which flood occurs most frequently in the world and with the current economic growth; flood disaster causes more and more economic losses. Chinese government pays more attention to flood monitoring and assessment by space technology. Since1983, NOAA(AVHRR), Landsat-TM, LANDSAT-ETM+, JERS-1, SPOT, ERS-2, Radarsat-1, CBERS-1, Envisat have been used for flood monitoring and assessment. Due to the bad weather conditions during flood, microwave remote sensing is the major tools for flood monitoring. Envisat is one of the best satellite with powerful SAR. Its application for flood monitoring has been studied and its near real time(NRT) application can be realized on the basis of real-time delivery of image. During the 2005, 2006 and 2007 flood seasons, over the 31 NRT flood monitoring based on Envisat, had been carried out in Yangtze, Songua, Huaihe, pearl river basin. The result shows that Envisat SAR is very useful data source for flood disaster monitoring and assessment.

  • Web-based instruction is being developed as a new study model getting out of the traditional standardized education method. It is a new education tool which promotes learner-centered and cooperative study. Flash, as one of the most powerful web authoring tool can maximize the effectiveness of learning using computer graphic, animation, sounds and video. In this paper, we will look at developing and distributing education materials using flash and the efficient web-based instructions.

  • This study examines the prati fashion style. prati fashion refers to a practical fashion, the most sought-after trend and newest fashion concept. This trend emerged as a response to the trio of minimalism, the recent economic downturn and the modern life style, and has led to powerful fashion lines and items. Therefore, this study is to understand and analyze the prati fashion style, with its focus on the 2010 modern fashion collection that embodied functional, economic, and minimal styles. First, the functional style realized by new materials provides comfort and allows multi-style changes. Second, the minimal style adds detailed changes to minimal silhouettes. Finally the economic style means easy to wear and easy to match items at affordable prices. The analyses stated above found that the prati fashion brought about a new paradigm to society, and influenced social, cultural and economic aspects of our daily life. It also helped find solutions to economic problems of this era. Drawing global attention, the prati fashion has functional, design and economic values, and thereby influences the shift of market paradigm.

  • Recent advances in linear programming solution methodology have focused on interior point methods. This powerful new class of methods achieves significant reductions in computer time for large linear programs and solves problems significantly larger than previously possible. These methods can be examined from points of Fiacco and McCormick's barrier method, Lagrangian duality, Newton's method, and others. This study presents a primal-dual log barrier algorithm of interior point methods for linear programming. The primal-dual log barrier method is currently the most efficient and successful variant of interior point methods. This paper also addresses a Cholesky factorization method of symmetric positive definite matrices arising in interior point methods. A special structure of the matrices, called supernode, is exploited to use computational techniques such as direct addressing and loop-unrolling. Two dense matrix handling techniques are also presented to handle dense columns of the original matrix A. The two techniques may minimize storage requirement for factor matrix L and a smaller number of arithmetic operations in the matrix L computation.
