Morphology of the Conducting Poly-N-vinylcarbazole-coated Silica Gel Nanocomposites

  • We report the effect of surface morphology on the conductivity of the poly-N-vinylcarbazole (PVK)/silica gel ($SiO_2$) nanocomposites as a function of $SiO_2$ weight percentage (%).The polymerization of PVK was initiated by a free-radical polymerization. The surface morphology of the prepared composite shows the incorporation of $SiO_2$ in the prepared PVK-$SiO_2$ (PS) nanocomposites. The conductivity increased from $9.2{\times}10^{-5}S\;cm^{-1}$ to $9.6{\times}10^{-4}S\;cm^{-1}$ with the increase in the percentage of silica gel from 5 to 30%. The nanocomposites show a percolation behavior having a threshold value between 15 and 20%.

Natural Amino Acid Based Phenolic Derivatives for Synthesizing Silver Nanoparticles with Tunable Morphology and Antibacterial Studies

  • Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with spherical and prism morphologies were formed at room temperature depend on the amino acid attached with phenolic unit. Absorption studies showed 410-420 nm surface plasmon resonance absorption for spherical nanoparticles whereas prism morphology showed three absorption peaks (382, 452 and 523 nm). The formation of spherical and prism morphology was confirmed by scanning and high resolution transmission electron microscopy. Antibacterial studies of both the morphologies did not show any significant differences in the inhibition of bacterial growth.

Noise Reduction using Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology

  • Mathematical morphology (MM) has been introduced as a powerful tool for studying the geometrical properties of images, MM is a good approach to digital image processing , which is based on the shape feature. The MM operators such as dilation, erosion, closing and opening have been applied successfully to image noise reduction. The MM filters can easily filter the noise when the noise factors are known. However it is very difficult to reduce the noise when images are ambiguous, because the boundary between the noise and object is vague. In this paper, we propose a new method to reduce noise from ambiguous images by using Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology (FMM) operators. Performance evaluation via simulations show that the FMM filters efficiently reduce the image noise. Furthermore, the FMM filters show a good performance compared with the conventional filters.

  • 한국산(韓國產) 버드나무속(屬) 9종(種) 1변종(變種)의 화분형태(花紛形態)를 광학현미경(光學顯微鏡)과 주사형(走査型) 전자(電子) 현미경(顯微鏡)으로 관찰(觀察)하였는바 화분립(花粉粒)은 장구형(長球型) 또는 아장구형(亞長球型)으로서 삼구형(三溝型)이거나 삼공구형(三孔溝型)이었다. 또한 조사(調査)된 한국산(韓國產) 버드나무속(屬)의 화분(花粉)은 발아구(發芽溝)와 표면(表面)무늬에 의(依)하여 3가지 형(型)으로 구분(區分)할 수 있었다.

  • Nowadays GPU (Graphic Process Unit) is not only used to show and render some images, but also for another computation. In this paper, we tried to use GPU to do some morphology operations to remove skull from axial MRI images. This skull removing process is an important step in brain segmentation because we would like to work with the brain only, without any skull on it. The result shows that simple morphology operations to remove skull has been successfully applied on MRI images, but there are still many parts that can be develop to get better images.

Morphology control of inkjet-printed small-molecule organic thin-film transistors with bank structures

  • Reported herein is the film morphology control of inkjet-printed 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) organic thin-film transistors for the improvement of their performance and of the device-to-device uniformity. The morphology of the inkjetted TIPS-pentacene films was significantly influenced by the bank geometry such as the bank shapes and confinement area for the channel region. A specific confinement size led to the formation of uniform TIPS-pentacene channel layers and better electrical properties, which suggests that the ink volume and the solid concentration of the organic-semiconductor solutions should be considered in designing the bank geometry.

  • 본 논문은 문서화상으로 부터 문장영역과 도형영역을 분리해 내는 연구이다. 문자영역을 추출하기 위하여 문서화상에 대해 Morphology의 기본연산인 Dilation을 행해 문자를 융합하고 블럭화를 행한 후 문서 화상의 서식을 판정하고 판정된 문자열 서식에 따라 문서화상에서 기울기를 구하여 문서를 보정하며 보정된 문서에서 문자열을 추출하였다. 3개 종류 11개 데이타를 대상으로 실험한 결과 문자열이 대부분 추출됨을 알 수 있었다.

Pressure Effects on the Morphology Development of C/C Composites During Carbonization

  • It is well known that the fabrication process of carbon/carbon composites is very complex. Above all, the carbonization process have major effect on the morphology development of carbon matrix. Carbon/carbon composites of 4-directional fiber preform were fabricated using the coal tar based pitch as a matrix precursor in this study. According to carbonization pressure of 1 bar, 100 bar, 600 bar, and 900 bar, morphological changes of cokes and matrix of composites were discussed. As the carbonization pressure increased to 600 bar, the flow pattern morphology of bulk mesophse was well developed. On the contrary, mosaic pattern morphology was found in case of 900 bar of carbonization pressure. It is confirmed that the carbonization pressure have profound effect on the degree of graphitization and crystal size of carbon matrix. Even in the highly densified carbon/carbon composites, large voids were still found in the matrix pocket region.

Dyeing Study on DMF-Modified Polyesters for Morphology Characterization

  • Morphology of polyester fiber was physically modified by solvent treatment. PET fiber was treated with N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at 100, 120, $140^{circ}C$ for 10 minutes without tension. The structural changes in the morphology of DMF-induced modified PET fiber were FTIR and SEM analysis. Also dyeing behavior of DMF-treated polyester fibers with various disperse dyes was studied to detect changes of amorphous area in fine structure. DMF treatment resulted in increases in total void content, degree of crystallinity, trans isomer content, chain folding, segmental mobility and molecular packing, but it resulted in decreases in amorphous orientation, intermolecular forces and individual void size through longitudinal shrinkage, lateral welling and removal of oligomers. Void-size distribution could be estimated from the dye uptake with various sizes of disperse dyes. In contrast to the large increases in dye uptake with small dye molecules, there is no and little dye uptake with the bulkiest dye, which means that void size is bigger or smaller than the volume of each dye. Diffusion rates of dye molecules showed increases. This dyeing study revealed that the disperse dyeing is very effective method for characterizing the internal morphology of polyester fiber.
