  • This study had been conducted to determine morphological characteristics of soil in the major districts cultivating flue-cured tobacco plant. Also native soil productivities were measured by means of bioassay planting tobacco plant without fertilizer at 87 selected soils through field experiment. Morphological characteristics of troll affecting the dry weight of tobacco leaves cultivated in the field were investigated Among soil morphological characteristics, topograpy, slope, topsoil depth, soil depth, and soil texture had influenced with high significant on the dry weight of tobacco leaves. For prediction of dry weight (productivity) of tobacco leaves without fertilizer , multiple regression analysis were introduced using soul morphological characteristics. A combination of topography, slope, topsoil depth, and soil texture was very reliable for prediction of productivity. The regression equation was y = -16.88 -14, 34$X_1$ +20.43$X_2$ +50.21$X_3$ -7.54$X_4$ +13.45$X_5$ R = $0.670^{**}$ Where $X_1$ : Topography $X_2$ : Slope $X_3$ : Topsoil Depth $X_4$ : Soil Depth $X_5$ : Soil Texture

  • This paper presents a new system to estimate the head pose of human in interactive indoor environment that has dynamic illumination change and large working space. The main idea of this system is to suggest a new morphological feature for estimating head angle from stereo disparity map. When a disparity map is obtained from stereo camera, the matching confidence value can be derived by measurements of correlation of the stereo images. Applying a threshold to the confidence value, we also obtain the specific morphology of the disparity map. Therefore, we can obtain the morphological shape of disparity map. Through the analysis of this morphological property, the head pose can be estimated. It is simple and fast algorithm in comparison with other algorithm which apply facial template, 2D, 3D models and optical flow method. Our system can automatically segment and estimate head pose in a wide range of head motion without manual initialization like other optical flow system. As the result of experiments, we obtained the reliable head orientation data under the real-time performance.

  • The use of gestures provides an attractive alternate to cumbersome interface devices for human-computer interaction. This has motivated a very active research area concerned with computer vision-based analysis and interpretation of hand gestures The most important issues in gesture recognition are the simplification of algorithm and the reduction of processing time. The mathematical morphology based on geometrical set theory is best used to perform the processing. The key idea of proposed algorithm is to track a trajectory of center points in primitive elements extracted by morphological shape decomposition. The trajectory of morphological center points includes the information on shape orientation. Based on this characteristic we proposed the morphological gesture sequence recognition algorithm using feature vectors calculated to the trajectory of morphological center points. Through the experiment, we demonstrated the efficiency of proposed algorithm.

  • An evaluation was carried out on variability in morphology of fruits and seeds (number and weight) of Tetrapleura tetraptera (Schumach. and Thonn.) Taub. from different populations across its distribution range in Nigeria. Bulk fruit samples were collected and examined for variations in morphological characters. Differences in morphological character of fruits and seeds among the populations were determined using analysis of variance at 5% level of probability. The relationships among morphological characters were determined using Pearson correlation coefficient (r). Significant variations (p<0.05) existed among T. tetraptera populations for all the evaluated characters: fruit length, fruit width, number of seeds per fruit and seed weight. A positive significant strong correlation (r=0.96) was found between seed weight and number of seeds per fruit, while no correlation existed between fruit length, width and number of seeds. Seed weight was positively correlated with minimum altitude (r=0.97) and maximum altitude (r=0.99) of seed populations. Number of seeds was also significantly correlated with maximum altitude (r=0.965). There was no significant correlation between geo-climatic variables and fruit dimensions (length and width). Observed variations in morphological traits within and across populations of T. tetraptera may be used as proxy to estimate genetic diversity and selection of superior trees for improved productivity.

  • This study explores the causes and processes of morphological transformation of apartment complexes in Busan. All apartment complexes built until the year 2016 were selected for statistical analysis, drawing/map examination, field observation, selected expert interviews based on 6 periodical groups: Period I(~1990), Period II(1991~1995), Period III(1996~2000), Period IV(2001~2005), Period V(2006~2010), and Period VI(2011~2016). The research argues for three 'arrangement' types, P1U, L1U and P2U, which have dominated the whole periods occupying 88% of the total 260 complexes. The switch of the leading type represents for morphological transformation of apartment complexes. Four aspects, density(F.A.R.), height(maximum number of floors), deformed-building-type ratio, and building-orientation, have affected the change of 'arrangement' types. Density was the major cause of the arrangement-type switch, from P1U to L1U, on Period II(1991~1995). The morphological change, from type L1U to P2U, on Period V(2006~2010) was caused by height and orientation, and is correlated with the increased number of deformed-type buildings. The first phase morphological change on Period II(1991~1995) was resulted by the supply side of apartment. However, the second phase transformation on Period V(2006~2010) had gone through the complex process including reflection of consumers' demands. The significance of research is to reveal the morphological transformation process of apartment complexes through analytical investigation of the entire apartment data in Busan. The result shows that the major change of urban paysage started to occur from Period V(2006~2010), and the superficial evaluation on apartment 'being monotonous and repetitive' may not be proper at least from the perspective of town plan.

  • The conventional morphological analysis of Korean language presents various morphological ambiguities because of its agglutinative nature. These ambiguities cause syntactic ambiguities and they make it difficult to select the correct parse tree. This problem is mainly related to the auxiliary predicate or bound noun in Korean. They have a strong relationship with the surrounding morphemes which are mostly functional morphemes that cannot stand alone. The combined morphemes have a syntactic or semantic role in the sentence. We extracted these morphemes from 0.2 million tagged words and classified these morphemes into three types. We call these morphemes a syntactic morpheme and regard them as an input unit of the syntactic analysis. This paper presents the syntactic morpheme is an efficient method for solving the following problems: 1) reduction of morphological ambiguities, 2) elimination of unnecessary partial parse trees during the parsing, and 3) reduction of syntactic ambiguity. Finally, the experimental results show that the syntactic morpheme is an essential unit for reducing morphological and syntactic ambiguity.

  • Numerical analysis using morphological characters was done in order to clarify taxonomic circumscriptions and identities of Korean endemic, Cirsium setidens (Dunn) Nakai, Cirsium chanroenicum Nakai, and Cirsium toraiense Nakai ex Kitam.. Principal components analysis of C. setidens and C. chanroenicum using 29 morphological characters and 12 leaves characters revealed one group which could not separate. Identity of C. toraiense could not be confirmed by the destruction of habitat, similarity of morphological diagnostic characters between many specimens identified C. toraiense including type specimen and C. japonicum var. ussuriense. In considering the variational patterns of morphological characters, it is strongly suggested that identities of C. setidens f. alba, C. setidens var. niveo-araneum, and C setidens var. pinnatifolium should be recognized, but C. chanroenicum var. lanceolata should be included to circumscription of C. setidens.

  • Korean Morphological Analysis is a difficult process. Because Korean is an agglutinative language, one of the most important processes in Morphological Analysis is Morpheme Recovery. There are some methods using Heuristic rules and Pre-Analyzed Partial Words that were examined for this process. These methods have performance limits as a result of not using contextual information. In this study, we built a Korean morpheme recovery system using deep learning, and this system used word embedding for the utilization of contextual information. In '들/VV' and '듣/VV' morpheme recovery, the system showed 97.97% accuracy, a better performance than with SVM(Support Vector Machine) which showed 96.22% accuracy.
