Korean Unknown-noun Recognition using Strings Following Nouns in Words (명사후문자열을 이용한 미등록어 인식)

  • Unknown nouns which are not in a dictionary make problems not only morphological analysis but also almost all natural language processing area. This paper describes a recognition method for Korean unknown nouns using strings following nouns such as postposition, suffix and postposition, suffix and eomi, etc. We collect and sort words including nouns from documents and divide a word including unknown noun into two parts, candidate noun and string following the noun, by finding same prefix morphemes from more than two unknown words. We use information of strings following nouns extracted from Sejong corpus and decide unknown noun finally. We obtain 99.64% precision and 99.46% recall for unknown nouns occurred more than two forms in news of two portal sites.

Analyzing Emotions in Literature by Extracting Emotion Terms (텍스트의 정서 단어 추출을 통한 문학 작품의 정서 분석)

  • We define a 'dominant emotion' as acting dominantly for unit time, and propose methodology to extract dominant emotion in a literature automatically. Due to the nature of the Korean language, it is able to be changed or reversed owns meanings as desinence. But it might be possible to extract a dominant emotion in a text has a small quantity like a fiction or an essay. A process to extract a dominant emotion in a literature is as follows. At first, extract morphemes in a whole text. And dispart words having emotional meaning as matching emotion terms database. Map disported terms to a affective circumplex model and matching it with basic emotion. Finally, analyze dominant emotion according to matched basic emotion. And we adjust our methodology to two literature; modem fiction 'A lucky day' by Jingeon, Hyun and essay 'An old man who shave a bat' by Woyoung, Yun. As a result, it was possible to grasp flows of dominant emotion.

A Study on the Mechanical Unconscious of Japan and Schizo-Analysis of Japanese Traditional Space Design (일본의 기계적 무의식과 전통공간디자인의 분열분석에 관한 연구)

  • This study is an historical consideration about the modern discourse of Japanese spacial tradition driven from cultural background. The purpose of this study is to establish a cartographic map of historical progress, and to shed light on the forming of identity in Japanese traditional space design on the schizo-analytical aspect. It adopts F. Guattari's psychoanalytic theory to the structural analysis of Japanese traditional space design. The process of this study is illustrated as follows: At first, it mentions Guattari's theory of Mechanical Unconscious, Schizo-analysis, Cartography, and Abstract machine as theoretical background. And, it considers the identity of Japanese traditional space constructed by various cultural sign over a long period of time as the statement of apriority. Secondly, it clarifies semiologic generation of Japanese traditional space design based on the analysis of spacial morphemes about each design stemmed from modernization process of Japan. Thirdly, it ascertains semiologic topography the representamens draw, i.e. schizo-analytic cartography from synchronic and diachronic point of view. Fourthly, it analyses traditional discourse structure in terms of generative schizo-analysis and transformational schizo-analysis with four categories- object, style, concept, strategy. Through this process, it studies the reproduction of Japanese tradition in terms of the 'social organization', and explores the way vitalized on the space-time coordinate system by the schizo-analysis of the mechanical unconscious. In conclusion, it clarifies Generative-schizo is accomplished in the level of formulating representamen, and Transformational-Schizo involves experimental mind that induce implantation of the heteromorphic elements and avant-garde experiments of abstract mechanical operation in the schizo-analysis of Japanese traditional space design. The significance of this study is to arrange an opportunity of introspection on Korean-ness seriously from inspecting logic of Japan-ness closely in traditional space design.

Light Weight Korean Morphological Analysis Using Left-longest-match-preference model and Hidden Markov Model (좌최장일치법과 HMM을 결합한 경량화된 한국어 형태소 분석)

  • With the rapid evolution of the personal device environment, the demand for natural language applications is increasing. This paper proposes a morpheme segmentation and part-of-speech tagging model, which provides the first step module of natural language processing for many languages; the model is designed for mobile devices with limited hardware resources. To reduce the number of morpheme candidates in morphological analysis, the proposed model uses a method that adds highly possible morpheme candidates to the original outputs of a conventional left-longest-match-preference method. To reduce the computational cost and memory usage, the proposed model uses a method that simplifies the process of calculating the observation probability of a word consisting of one or more morphemes in a conventional hidden Markov model.

  • Ontologies, which are the core of the Semantic Web, are usually limited by specific domains or created by defining meanings and relationships that depend on the heuristic. However, the creation of an ontology is not only very difficult but also very time-consuming. In contrast with ontologies that are used in specific fields, an ontology for the Web entails an unlimited scope of knowledge and expression of information. Hence, it is hard to express information in the same way that is used to create ontologies in specific fields. Therefore, the automatic generation of an ontology takes very important role in the Semantic Web. In this paper, to make ontologies automatically, we suggest the methods to create and renew ontologies by expanding keywords related to the index-terms which are extracted from the search keywords which users input in the search engines by analyzing the morphemes.

VOC Summarization and Classification based on Sentence Understanding (구문 의미 이해 기반의 VOC 요약 및 분류)

  • To attain an understanding of customers' opinions or demands regarding a companies' products or service, it is important to consider VOC (Voice of Customer) data; however, it is difficult to understand contexts from VOC because segmented and duplicate sentences and a variety of dialog contexts. In this article, POS (part of speech) and morphemes were selected as language resources due to their semantic importance regarding documents, and based on these, we defined an LSP (Lexico-Semantic-Pattern) to understand the structure and semantics of the sentences and extracted summary by key sentences; furthermore the LSP was introduced to connect the segmented sentences and remove any contextual repetition. We also defined the LSP by categories and classified the documents based on those categories that comprise the main sentences matched by LSP. In the experiment, we classified the VOC-data documents for the creation of a summarization before comparing the result with the previous methodologies.

Korean Part-of-Speech Tagging System Using Resolution Rules for Individual Ambiguous Word (어절별 중의성 해소 규칙을 이용한 혼합형 한국어 품사 태깅 시스템)

  • In this paper we describe a Korean part-of-speech tagging approach using resolution rules for individual ambiguous word and statistical information. Our tagging approach resolves lexical ambiguities by common rules, rules for individual ambiguous word, and statistical approach. Common rules are ones for idioms and phrases of common use including phrases composed of main and auxiliary verbs. We built resolution rules for each word which has several distinct morphological analysis results to enhance tagging accuracy. Each rule may have morphemes, morphological tags, and/or word senses of not only an ambiguous word itself but also words around it. Statistical approach based on HMM is then applied for ambiguous words which are not resolved by rules. Experiment shows that the part-of-speech tagging approach has high accuracy and broad coverage.

Generating a Korean Sentiment Lexicon Through Sentiment Score Propagation (감정점수의 전파를 통한 한국어 감정사전 생성)

  • Sentiment analysis is the automated process of understanding attitudes and opinions about a given topic from written or spoken text. One of the sentiment analysis approaches is a dictionary-based approach, in which a sentiment dictionary plays an much important role. In this paper, we propose a method to automatically generate Korean sentiment lexicon from the well-known English sentiment lexicon called VADER (Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner). The proposed method consists of three steps. The first step is to build a Korean-English bilingual lexicon using a Korean-English parallel corpus. The bilingual lexicon is a set of pairs between VADER sentiment words and Korean morphemes as candidates of Korean sentiment words. The second step is to construct a bilingual words graph using the bilingual lexicon. The third step is to run the label propagation algorithm throughout the bilingual graph. Finally a new Korean sentiment lexicon is generated by repeatedly applying the propagation algorithm until the values of all vertices converge. Empirically, the dictionary-based sentiment classifier using the Korean sentiment lexicon outperforms machine learning-based approaches on the KMU sentiment corpus and the Naver sentiment corpus. In the future, we will apply the proposed approach to generate multilingual sentiment lexica.

A Comparison of Hospice Care Research Topics between Korea and Other Countries Using Text Network Analysis (텍스트네트워크분석을 활용한 국내·외 호스피스 간호 연구 주제의 비교 분석)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify and compare hospice care research topics between Korean and international nursing studies using text network analysis. Methods: The study was conducted in four steps: 1) collecting abstracts of relevant journal articles, 2) extracting and cleaning keywords (semantic morphemes) from the abstracts, 3) developing co-occurrence matrices and text-networks of keywords, and 4) analyzing network-related measures including degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and clustering using the NetMiner program. Abstracts from 347 Korean and 1,926 international studies for the period of 1998-2016 were analyzed. Results: Between Korean and international studies, six of the most important core keywords-"hospice," "patient," "death," "RNs," "care," and "family"-were common, whereas "cancer" from Korean studies and "palliative care" from international studies ranked more highly. Keywords such as "attitude," "spirituality," "life," "effect," and "meaning" for Korean studies and "communication," "treatment," "USA," and "doctor" for international studies uniquely emerged as core keywords in recent studies (2011~2016). Five subtopic groups each were identified from Korean and international studies. Two common subtopics were "hospice palliative care and volunteers" and "cancer patients." Conclusion: For a better quality of hospice care in Korea, it is recommended that nursing researchers focus on study topics of patients with non-cancer disease, children and family, communication, and pain and symptom management.

Translation Method of '-hada' verb in a Korean-to-Japanese Machine Translation (한-일 기계번역에서 '하다'용언의 번역 방법)

  • Due to grammatical similarities, even a one-to-one mapping between Korean and Japanese morphemes can usually result in a high quality Korean-to-Japanese machine translation. So most of Korean-to-Japanese machine translation are based on a one-to-one mapping relation. Most of Korean '-hada' verbs, which consist of a noun and '-hada', also correspond to Japanese '-suru' verbs, which consist of a noun and '-suru', so we generally use one-to-one mapping relation between them. However, the applications only by one-to-one mapping may sometimes result in incorrect Japanese correspondences in some cases that Korean 'hada' verbs don't correspond to Japanese 'suru' verbs. In these cases, we need to handle a noun and '-hada' as one translation unit. Therefore, this paper examined the characteristics of Korean '-hada' verb and proposed transfer rules of Korean 'hada' verb, applying for various states of input sentences such as discontinuity due to inserted words between a noun and '-hada', passivization, and modification of '-hada' verb. In an experimental evaluation, the proposed method was very effective for handling '-hada' verb in a Korean-to-Japanese machine translation, showing high quality of translation results.
