How Consumers Spend and Distribute Money Tainted by Anger

  • Purpose: Anger has become one of the dominantly experienced emotions in recent years, particularly under the COVID-19 pandemic. Considering the critical role that anger plays in consumers' lives, the present research examines how feeling angry about money influences consumers' spending and money distribution decisions. Research design and methodology. Three experiments were conducted using different emotion induction methods (i.e., dictator game, autobiographical recall, and scenario). Results. Feeling angry about money decreased pro-social spending (i.e., less money distribution to the others), but it did not affect virtuous or utilitarian spending for the self-unlike past finding on negative feelings that increased utilitarian spending. Furthermore, whereas anger-tainted money decreased pro-social spending of that money, guilt-tainted money increased pro-social spending. However, the effects of guilt versus anger were not completely symmetrical. The antagonistic effect of anger was diffusive across spending on distant and close others, whereas the pro-social effect of guilt was limited to distant others. Conclusions: These findings help policy makers and financial institutions forecast how money will be distributed or circulated when it is likely to be dampened by anger under the pandemic. They also highlight the importance of examining the effects of discrete emotions (e.g., anger vs. guilt) beyond valence.

Prevention Policies for Money Laundering through Capital Market Instruments: The Case of Indonesia

  • The phenomenon of money laundering through capital market instruments and various investment instruments in it is a challenge for law enforcement officials, particularly the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in investigating money laundering crimes originating from corruption. This study aims to analyze comprehensively about: (1) implementation of policies on prevention and eradication of money laundering at the KPK in the context of handling money laundering on the capital market; and (2) an effective model for implementing policies to prevent and eradicate money laundering in the KPK in the context of handling money laundering on the capital market. By using a qualitative approach and Interactive Model analysis from Miles and Huberman, it was concluded that the results of the implementation of the policy of preventing and eradicating money laundering at the Corruption Eradication Commission in the context of handling money laundering crimes in the capital market had a positive impact on society, individuals and groups. The theoretical implications of the results of this study are related to the content of policy that is still relevant but for the context of implementation it needs to be refined or reconstructed by adding three elements, namely: communication, monitoring, and evaluation and security.

여자대학생의 물질주의 가치성향과 화폐에 대한 태도 및 금전사용행동 (The Material Values, Attitudes toward Money, and Money Use Behavior of Female Collegians)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of the material values, attitudes toward money, and the background variables to the money use behavior of female collegians. The samples were selected from 541 female collegians. Cronbach$\alpha$, One-way ANOVA, Duncan test, Multiple regression, Path analysis were used as statistical analysis. The results were summarized as follows : Resulting from multiple regression analysis, the money use behavior of female collegians had the positive linear relationships with the variables such as mothers level of education, material values, and 3 money attitude - the means of security, the symbol of anxiety, the means of pleasure - in five money attitude dimensions. The most influential variable was money attitude of the means of security.

Money Management Behavior According to Consumption Value for Adolescent Consumer

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the money management behavior according to the consumption value for consumers, especially for adolescents. Using 502 samples of middle school adolescents, a survey was conducted from May 10 to May 20, 2004. The main results were as follows: 1) The consumption value for adolescent consumers was categorized conspicuous-consumption value, brand-oriented value, mental-oriented value and advertising-dependent value. 2) Female adolescent, with more private spending money, with mobile phone, with importance on brand when purchasing mobile phone, paying more for using mobile phone, having conspicuous-consumption value, with more importance for brand when purchasing mobile phone and having more advertising-oriented value. Adolescent consumers with less private spending money, less payment for mobile phone and having mental-oriented value. 3) Female, with more educated mother, with less spending private money and having better money management behavior. 4) With less conspicuous-consumption value, more mental-oriented value, adolescent consumers have better for money management behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of 4-value orientations the 5 money spending styles. and the background variables to the desired money management behavior of high school girls The samples were selected from 498 high school girls. Cronbach'α and Multiple regression were used as statistical analysis.The results were summarized as follows : Resulting from multiple regression analysis, the desired money management behavior of high school girls had the positive linear relationships with the variables such as financial satisfaction. goal-oriented value, and 4 money spending styles - security, conspicuous, non-monetary, and unconcerned - in five money spending ,styles. The most influential variable was money spending styles.

대학생 소비자의 돈에 대한 태도 유형별 의복구매행동 (The Clothing Purchase Behavior of College Students: A Comparison of Different Money Attitudes)

  • The purposes of this study were to identify money altitudes of college students and to examine both socio-economic characteristics and clothing purchase behaviors by different money attitudes. For this study, guestionnaires completed by 2-year and 4-year college students (n=426) were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, X²- test, and ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows: First, the money attitudes were composed of five factors and they were categorized by three clusters: cluster of considering the money as a tool for future safety, a way of approval and filling up emotions, and inclination toward stinginess and distrust. Second, the factors which were associated with money attitudes were academic level, education level of parents, household income, students' own income, and the economic level of their households. Third, in each type of attitudes, the clothing purchase behavior had four steps of decision making: problem recognition, information search, evaluation of alternatives, and the purchase. There were significant differences in the clothing purchase behavior among the money attitude styles.

화폐 읽기: 화폐의 의미작용과 가치 (Reading "Money": Value and Signification of Money)

  • 화폐를 소통 미디어로 간주하고 화폐가 야기하는/실패하는 소통 형식을 추적하는 것이 이 연구의 목적이다. 현대 자본주의사회에서 화폐를 경제적 역할(가치척도 수단, 유통 수단, 축장 수단, 지불 수단)에만 한정해 논의할 수는 없다. 사회 전 영역에서 인간을 매개하고, 의미를 전하는 사회문화적 역할을 수행하는 미디어로도 이해해야 한다. 이 같은 인식 아래 화폐에 대한 언어학적/기호학적 이론화를 시도했다. 마르크스의 가치형태론과 언어학/기호학을 접합시키고자 했다. 접합을 통해 소통 미디어로서 화폐는 두 가지 의미작용을 펼치고 있는 것으로 파악했다. 하나는 무한한 부의 축적을 욕망케 하는 메타 의미작용이다. 그 결과 화폐는 두 번째 의미작용인 개별 상품들 사이의 구체적이고 중층적인 의미작용들을 대신하게 된다. 화폐가 주인 기표가 되며 모든 기호들의 의미작용은 파괴되고 아무것도 아님은 모든 것이 될 수 있음을 의미화하였기 때문이다. 이를 통해 소통 미디어로서의 화폐는 모든 개별 주체의 보편적인 상상적 동일시의 대상이 되었다. 화폐는 개별 기호를 묘사할 뿐만 아니라 대표하는 지위를 점한다. 그러나 대표와 묘사는 지속적인 긴장을 일으키며 주인 기표로서의 화폐의 지위를 위협한다. 마르크스의 보나파르티즘 분석에 대한 화폐기호학적 재독해는 이와 같은 긴장의 구체적 국면을 드러내고 있었다. 즉 묘사될 수는 있으나 보나파르티즘에 의해 대표되지 못하고 이탈된 주체들은 체계의 위협 요소로 상존하였다. 소통 미디어로서의 화폐는 의미작용의 작동을 통해 화폐 체계의 성립과 와해의 가능성을 동시에 지니고 있다.

중복유형모형(重複類型模型)과 화폐(貨幣)의 순수교환기능(純粹交換機能) (An Overlapping Types Model and the Pure Medium of Exchange Role of Fiat Money)

  • 본고(本稿)에서는 화폐(貨幣)보다 더 우월(優越)한 가치저장기능(價値貯藏機能)을 가진 실물자산(實物資産)이 존재함에도 불구하고 화폐가 존재해 온 현상이 화폐경제(貨幣經濟)의 특징이라고 파악하였다. Wallace(1980)의 중복세대모형(重複世代模型)이 이러한 화폐경제의 특징을 설명하지 못하는 이유는 화폐존재의 근본원인인 "상품교환욕구(商品交換欲求)의 상호불일치(相互不一致)"가 모형(模型)에 내재(內在)되어 있지 않기 때문이다. 본고(本稿)에서 제시한 중복유형모형(重複類型模型)에서는 이질적(異質的) 선호(選好)를 가진 소비자가 이질적(異質的) 재화(財貨)를 가지고 이질적(異質的) 장소(場所)에 태어나기 때문에 불확실성(不確實性), 거래비용(去來費用), 정보부족(情報不足) 등이 배제되었음에도 불구하고, 가치저장기능이 다른 실물자산(實物資産)보다 열위(劣位)한 화폐가 순수교환기능(純粹交換機能)을 수행하면서 존재하게 된다. 중복유형모형(重複類型模型)에서의 화폐경제는 비화폐경제(非貨幣經濟)보다 항상 우월한 자원배분(資源配分)을 하지만, 그렇다고 해서 "파레토"최적성(最適性)을 보장해 주지는 않는다. 화폐는 경제구조(經濟構造)가 불완전하기 때문에 존재하며, 따라서 경제구조(經濟構造)의 불완전성(不完全性)을 일부(一部)는 극복하게 해주지만 전부(全部)를 항상 극복하게 하지는 않기 때문이다. 본고(本稿)에서는 이러한 중복유형모형(重複類型模型)의 최적성(最適性) 특성(特性)이 향후 화폐경제의 제반문제(諸般問題)를 연구하는 데 중요한 의미를 가진다고 주장하였다.

IMF 경제위기 전후 대학생의 돈에 대한 태도와 행동 차이 (Differences in Attitudes and Behaviors toward Money of the College Students after and before IMF Economic Crisis)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the attitudes and behaviors toward money among college students after and before IMF economic crisis. The subject of investigation consists of 389 students in the year of 1995 and 112 students in the year of 2000 in Wonkwang university. The major findings are as follows: 1) The exploratory factor analysis of money attitudes and behaviors scale drew four factors such as; power, obsession, money management and pleasure. 2) Male students have a tendency more likely than females not only to look upon money as power but also to have an obsession before IMF economic crisis. But gender differences were disappeared after. 3) In comparison of the before and after IMF economic crisis, the behavior value in reference to money is generally increased. The social power and the cognitive attitude like an obsessional increased smaller than that of a practical such as money management or pleasure. The pleasure is raised the largest. 4) The level of attitudes and behavior for money management is raised the most for female students while, the value of the pleasure has the greatest increase for male students rate.

An Analysis of Money Supply in Indonesia: Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Approach

  • The role of money in the modern economy highly determines the intensity and the development of the macroeconomy. The money supply is assumed to be as much as money demand, which reflects the economic character of a country and indicates the growth and development of macroeconomy. In Indonesia, the money supply (M1) is related to the economic dynamics in either the monetary market or the goods market. This research aims at analyzing factors that influence the money supply and to what extent the economic factors affect the money supply in Indonesia. The analysis method used in this research was Vector Autoregressive (VAR) with some variables, such as money supply (M1), interest rate, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the 1st quarter of 2001 until the 1st quarter of 2013. The data collection method was in the form of data compilation from credible sources, such as Bank of Indonesia (BI), Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), and International Financial Statistics (IFS). To obtain adequate analysis results, several tests were taken, such as unit-root test, Granger causality test, and optimal lag. VAR analysis formulates the correlation among independent variables, so it also sees the study of impulse response and matrix decomposition.
